If justin has so much repesct or the mj estate then why did he not ask permission to do this song?

Re: Someone's mixed STTR with Bieber / Update: Estate says it is unauthorized and song is taken down

What pisses me off is the fact that all these little kids are giving Justin Bieber all the credit. Like, I've seen the most ridicilous tweets saying "Justin should win a grammy for his hard work on this song" Like, excuse me? MICHAEL JACKSON WROTE IT!

I'm so fed up with Justin Bieber, he's accomplished NOTHING really and all he has is his twitter profile where he and his management have managed to brainwash an entire generation of little girls. They should be ashamed of themselves! My only comfort is the fact that these girls will grow up some day, and realize, like many other girls, that they were in love with a prick! The way he acts, he should not be getting all the attention he's getting.

Sorry, if I was a little harsh but that's just my opinion and I'm proper raging right now.....

LOL Justin's fans are delusional as hell.
The fact that Bieber's been in the industry for five years and doesn't even have any REAL accolades to his name should say something.
Even comparing Lady Gaga to Bieber...she has five times the amount of awards he does and she's been around about the same amount of time, including five Grammy wins under her belt.
I can't wait for the day Justin disappears. It'll be the greatest moment of my life.

Just heard the song. This is such a classic MJ song that there shouldn't be anyone else in the song. I wonder if the were short on lyrics that they added someone to it. But please at least ask someone with a good track record, maybe Justin Timberlake. And preferrably I'd have this song as an MJ song only. It has such a great beat.

Of course. It is the same as Tricky doing Slave To The Rhythm. MJ never worked with neither of them.
Yup, and which version would you like? Original version of course, but if you had to pick a reworked version, you would probably pick someone who worked on it, right?

Absolutely. Original version always plus Babyface/L.A. Reid 2010 (or now 2013 version). Their vision with MJ in mind. I don't care if they are not hit producers anymore.

I hated Teddy touching Hollywood and McClain touching Behind the Mask and Much Too Soon.

I have no idea where we up to with this, I havent been able to follow the news around this today... When I first heard about this remix version I told my kids that the only version allowed in my house (and my car) is MJ's solo true version (they love MJ too so they easily agreed). So anyway, I get this out of the blue random text from my daughter today telling me she heard the Bieber remix thing on our local radio station here in Australia...Grrr!

So, what the hell is going on with this ? Is this now officially released as a single ?? Sorry for asking something that may have been covered several pages ago. I just want to know if I can write my local radio station and give them some facts.

Thx.

Re: Someone's mixed STTR with Bieber / Update: Estate says it is unauthorized and song is taken down

Right. See I think the point is charts don't matter if it means they're whoring his songs (with questionable collaborations, for example). Michael wanted big sales, but his artistic dignity came first. You can always play safe and have a duet with the current hot thing and double the sales cause you have two fan communities supporting the song. but it would only work with this song and not the whole album. Personally, I'd rather see Sony and the estate working day and night on actual PR for the whole album, which I think they kind of failed to do with the last few projects. Projects with great potential didn't sell as much as was expected.

and lets just say this remix is released and goes straight to 1# - I can actually see how people are going to say JB helped MJ get his first 1# in years. I wanna see another MJ song\album go like hotcakes, but I want it to be his success and nobody else's. Especially when we still have full songs.

and the fact is the bieber never ever had a number one.

Not only is fans but also the media. The media treats Bieber as if he's this well respected and well loved singer when it reality it's the complete opposite.

Justin Bieber is one of the biggest media darlings i have ever seen

Re: Someone's mixed STTR with Bieber

They (the Estate) need to make money, that is their job.

Eh? No, their job is to take care of Michael Jackson's legacy and his fans. They need to make money to be able to do that, but making money should not be number one priority. Thats when you get half-arsed releases, like the BAD25 DVD.

Of course they need to look after the MJ legacy, but that also means taking it forward for as long as they can, and that of course requires them to make money. The more money the better for them (salary) and the kids (inheritance) and Sony (profit).
MJ fans endlessly moan about 'integrity' etc but at the end of the day MJ was all about sales. He loved selling millions of albums and he loved being the biggest artist in the world. In my opinion he would love having massive success with posthumous projects, such as This Is It, Cirque du Soleil shows etc. I think MJ would be happy with Sony using his music to appeal to the masses again, and I think if the MJ Estate try to be sympathetic when they rework his unreleased material then it should be ok. This Bieber thing has been blown out of proportion, because while the MJ Estate may have requested Bieber work on STTR, they would never have given authorisation for the leaked version to be released in its current state - it has too much Bieber. The person who leaked it is responsible for this mess, not the MJ Estate.

As anyone ever noticed that all media darlings are white? It started with The Beatles and Elvis Presley and now it's happening with Justin Bieber and Justin Timberlake. Is it a coincidence?

This, to me, is very condescending towards MJ as an artist. Striving to be the best-selling artist of all time by pushing yourself to create the absolute best, timeless music you can is not the same as 'being all about sales'.

You forgot the "King of Hip Hop" Eminem...

But this is a whole another discussion.

Totally disagree from a uk perspective. He is hounded mercilessly by the tabs and every mis-step is given headlines. When he was in the uk for his tour, he got the most incredibly bad press. The media here have it in for him to the extent it's unpleasant.

If we just let die this shameful incident, I mean JB doesn't deserve such attention from us. Is it still a trend on twitter or world wide web? If he wanted a boost, he certainly had it but not honorably.

They were not short on lyrics. The song is 100% vocally complete. They just removed half of Michael's work.

if this is such a tragedy stop talking about it. maybe then people will forget and move on, you are all only prolonging the effects by telling yourselves this is the worst thing to have ever happened to mj.

No one is saying that this is the worst thing to have ever happened to MJ. If it is bothering you so much that people are talking about this, why not just avoid this thread?

To me the answer to something like this, or the Michael album, should never be to just not talk about it, forget and move on. Things will never improve that way.

and IMO the fact that the Estate yet AGAIN is trying to force MJ into the "mainstream crap music featuring today's crap singers" box IS close to the worst thing ever....

Oh, it's so depressing reading this forum - can't we be happy about ANYTHING!?

We know NOTHING about what the Estate has planned.

Let's just look forward to hearing some new (remixed or not) MJ tunes. And seeing people dance to his music again.

His legacy is ASSURED. It's done.

If a good, respectful product is released, I am sure most of us would be quite happy. People seemed more or less unanimously excited about the unreleased tracks on Bad 25, for instance (not talking about the criticism of the overall package, just the tracks).

Sadly, the Estate's projects thus far have not been very strong to many of us. I think it is wrong to blame fans for being critical of their releases. If we just accept whatever is being put out, even though many of us consider something to be a terrible or even disrespectful release, the quality of the posthumous products will never improve. I do not see the point in faking excitement over something that does not make us genuinely happy. The only way to get a release that we can all genuinely enjoy in the future is by voicing our opinions.

His legacy is ASSURED. It's done.
It is. That does not mean we should blindly accept whatever is being released by his Estate now though. Yes, his legacy is of course secure, but the Estate should be releasing products that honour it and enhance it even further, not do it a disservice.

But does that mean that we have to stop caring about quality? Stop caring about what Michael stood for in terms of artistry? Does that mean that we have to happily accept everybody and their momma to do whatever they want with his songs? Does that mean that we as fans have to sit back and clap our hands excitedly over everything they release?
I cant speak for others, but I am worried about the path they seem to want to take. They put the (imo horrendous) remixes on bad25 to "appeal to the younger generation". Now we have the persistent talk of this duet album (which will only be a "duet" album since MJ cant duet with the other person. And when you force song that wasnt meant for a duet into becoming a duet, the end result will be rather... iffy imo). WHY do we have to change Michael in order to have him be relevant? He spent +40 years of his life being a POP singer, and now the Estate and sony are trying to sell him off to the teenagers as a hiphop/the current sound singer? WHY? THAT's my problem with this thing. I feel like this is the beginning of that nightmare.
His legacy might be safe right now - but this constant trying to force him into another direction; what impact could that potentially have?

Ugh. It just made it to the front page of Yahoo News. The article itself is on The Week website but the link is on the Yahoo News frontpage: http://theweek.com/article/index/24...n-are-together-at-last-on-slave-to-the-rhythm

Do we still think the Estate doesn't need to release a statement?

Given Bieber's obvious reverence for the pop star, it's disappointing that this remix doesn't have a little more impact. The original "Slave to the Rhythm" is by no means Michael Jackson's greatest song, but at least it sounds like a Jackson song. This remix scrubs the song of much of its personality in favor of a generic, club-ready techno beat. Dedicated Beliebers will undoubtedly eat it up, but it's unlikely to convert any Michael Jackson fans to Bieber's army.
