"Michael", a biopic about Michael Jackson, is officially happening.

You'd want less competition for this film. Summer or end of year release dates seem a bit bloated with all the big blockbusters that are usually released then. You can't have this film debuting a week before Avatar 3 comes out for example.

I personally think this could be relatively successful in the calm early year window of releases.

Big news everyone! The biopic is set to be premiered at the end of 2025! With this news out the way, we should be finding out the full cast very soon. #MJBiopic #MichaelJackson
Soundtrack confirmed in the year of HIStory's 30th anniversary.

On November 9th, Lionsgate Entertainment had a conference call regarding their Q2 2024 Earnings.

Jon Feltheimer – CEO, Jimmy Barge – CFO, Michael Burns – COO, Kevin Beggs – Chariman of the Motion Picture Group, Nilay Shah, head of Investor Relations and Joe Drake, president of Worldwide TV discussed the foreplaning of the corporation and the future revenue coming into place during the Quarterly Calendar of April, May and June.

Jon Feltheimer confirmed that as the actor strike is over, they will finish team up production for several of their biggest fiscal earnings which includes Michael Jackson Biopic.

Later on in the conversation Joe Drake confirmed: “Just quickly on the Motion Picture side, we were able to strategically really get ahead of it. We were able to secure a number of waivers and really lined our productions up so that as soon as we came out of the strike, we could be running the Michael Jackson movie starts in January.”

The due release of the biopic is still unknown. Depending on how rapidly they can film and do the post-production, it seems that Lionsgate will be announcing the release date in the next coming months. Some sources say 2024, 2025 or 2026.

They also recently confirmed crew and staff on the biopic:

Robert Richardson will be in charge of the cinematography. Kimberly Hardin and Victoria
Thomas are in charge of the casting. The production design will be done by Academy Award winner, Barbara Ling. Visual effects will be attributed to Pasquale Antonelli and Wesley Barker.

More cast and crew will be announced soon.

Footage -
First glimpse but I think he's gonna pull it off big time once everything is in place. Interesting he's lip syncing to MITM

It's mirrored btw before anyone starts to criticize it

Woah, that footage of Jaafar actually looks really good!

A lot of impersonators often seem to overdo some of the movements either unconsciously or for dramatic effect, but the way he does it seems very natural and close to how Michael would've done it.

Honestly made me tear up a little.

That head flick into the hop was just like Michael.

Add in full costume, make up , special effects, camera angles etc , it's gonna be magic

What good news! Was really looking forward to the first photos from the shoot. Jaafar is very good as MJ. He has such a difficult and very important one, I wish him strength of inspiration. I think he will manage)))))

I agree. I also teared up a little the first time I heard his voice (singing The Christmas Song with Jermaine) - he sounded soooo much like Michael, I was blown away.

As far as mannerisms, Jafaar has it down better than any impersonator I’ve ever seen. The subtleties are there, he’s not overdoing the moves, and he’s incredibly fluid. And to think that’s just rehearsal footage.

No clue how the biopic is gonna turn out, but MJ’s casting is absolutely spot on.

I think the biggest issue the movie will face is suspending belief for a moment and allowing Jafaar to be Michael Jackson. We know Mike like the back of our hands to see anyone else as him doesn't quite translate. I thought the Elvis movie did a real good job of making the viewer forget that this is not actually Elvis so hopefully they achieve that here.

Honestly, it’s easy when the actor pulls it off. Myles Frost was excellent. Not perfect, but for certain stretches (mainly during non-musical scenes) I forgot he wasn’t actually MJ.

Then you’ve got your Flex Alexander’s.

Wow I'm seriously impressed by the footage of Jaafar, he's got the mannerisms and the movements just right.

One thing he nailed that I love is he nailed the intensity, impersonators either have too much of it constantly or none at all. Mike would build up to that fire level intensity, which would make his movement and dance look like an explosion of passion.

Not sure how well Jaafar is going to do in the acting role, it's a tough ask for anybody, but in the performing department I've got no concerns. Great casting
