"Michael", a biopic about Michael Jackson, is officially happening.

Nobody knows what the Jackson 5 has sold. Because before the 1980s, Motown rarely reported the sales of any of their artists records to the RIAA. This was common with a lot of labels, because if they told the RIAA what their product sold, they would have to pay the artists royalties for that. Without certifications, the artists can't ask for more money if they don't how much anything sold. Also if you're going to add the J5/The Jacksons to Mike's total, then all of The Beatles solo stuff has to be added and there are 4 of them, plus other stuff like Wings, Traveling Wilburys, Ringo's All Starr Band, The Fireman, etc. As of now Garth Brooks is ahead of Mike.

He quite literally doesn't even need the Jackson 5 stuff anyway, he has 56 million certifications missing just in the United States. He's comfortably #1 worldwide and in America by himself

Because somebody on a fansite said so? I'm pretty sure if people look it up, Mike is at 4 or 5 on the list. Anyway, labels can put out any number they want to. They can say a record sold more or less than it really did. The RIAA does not audit what the labels tell them. Certifications also have to be paid for, which is one reason smaller independent labels don't usually report sales. Even if they wanted to, they can't afford it. The RIAA only counts the USA and maybe Canada. Years ago RCA said that Elvis Presley sold over a billion records, which means he is the biggest seller. But Elvis is #2 (without a billion) on the official list and The Beatles #1. Some certifications are based on records shipped to stores, and not actual purchases. The labels also did not count record club sales as official. Today a certain amount of streams is counted as a sale, but nobody bought anything, not even a download. A person doesn't even have to listen to the entire song either, I think 30 seconds count. Some mom & pop stores didn't have the soundscan equipment. So no one really knows how much any records sold. It can't be proven.

Elvis has never been #2. He was passed decades ago. This post reeks of BS

Sony hasn't done shit to certify his albums or records, he's behind at least 50-100 million. Just in Brazil he's down 10 million, they went straight to Pro Musica Brasil and confronted them about the missing certifications and said Sony has literally never submitted a request to have his sales updated there. They asked Germany, Canada and Japan and got the same answer, Sony outright did not request to have any of his sales updated. Only half of Michael's sales are accounted for, as it stands right now he's barely behind the Beatles due to this.

This is a recent list for US sales, and Elvis is #3. I know it's not that reliable, but even on Wiki, Elvis is #2 for worldwide. Worldwide can't really be tracked though. Mike is at #6 for US and 3 for worldwide.

You know this how? Did you or these people go to all of the stores and online sellers and asked them how much Michael Jackson has sold?

That was my thinking too, sounds like a load of crap tbh but I didn't wanna say it lol

They quite literally compiled a list of every certification and sent them to the estate, they directly went to online retailers internationally and told them about the certifications that were missing and they openly said Sony hasn't sent any audits to have them certified and nothing can be done about them until they are willing to do so. The media has been misreporting Jackson for decades and legitimately hate his guts, the musical was review bombed because he wasn't called a pedophile and they've intentionally removed his image from everything.
In Germany, Canada, Japan they were all confronted about the missing certifications and said "Why haven't they been updated"?

Why do we have to care so much about MJ being number one?

It seems like y’all can’t be his fans without him being the biggest superstar of all time.
I don’t care how many he sold, I don’t care if anyone broke any of his records… it doesn’t matter.. I love him.

Everyone loves MJ, his legacy will literally live on for the rest of time. He can never be replaced or matched.
Also: Invincible was better than Off the Wall. Fight me

Is it that hard to just admit that maybe he did sell a lotta records? If he did, why does that bother some? Are you jealous?

Time moves on so it's not gonna matter for long. But that doesn't mean we need to keel over and just say he really wasn't that great or did that much. It happened. It's Real.

The downplaying is so real. I forgot what else I was gonna say.

But anyway, let's just get back to arguing how many years the biopic is gonna cover and which song from Dangerous they're Not gonna put in this movie.

Those lazy bastards need to fucking re-release Dangerous again. I'm still waiting for my Dangerous anniversary album

It’s almost impossible for Michael to be ahead of Elvis and the Beatles. Elvis’ career started in 1956 and the Beatles in 1962 and Michael’s in 1971. So they have a huge head start.

Technically MJ's only started in the 80s since Motown never certified any of the sales from back then.

I would be very disappointed if it was cancelled. Michael needs this , I think it will be brilliant.

Other than the strikes, why would it be cancelled? If Robson won the trial? I could see that being about the only reason.
