"Michael", a biopic about Michael Jackson, is officially happening.

I really hope it's not Hot Street, the biopic is a big release and Hot Street is a bit of an underwhelming song to be accompanied with it. A while ago Steve Porcaro said he was negotiating with the estate to get Chicago 1945 released, could that be one of the songs they're looking into? Either way I hope it's a song we've never heard of before if it's going to be just a single release.

Well thats your opinion. Imo Hot Street is/would be a banger for the mainstream audience, while Chicago45 is one for the MJ fanbase mainly.

The insane success of musical and the fact nobody on social media can go a day without bringing MJ's name up for some reason proves that he's far more popular in death sadly
Jimi Hendrix, Robert Johnson, & Bob Marley became way more popular after they died than when they were alive. Probably Marilyn Monroe & Tupac Shakur too. There's all kinds of Marilyn merchandising, bought by a lot of people who have never even seen her movies. She's an image today. There's college classes on Tupac. Technically, The Beatles are dead, since they haven't existed since 1970. They're still popular, even having movies based on their songs like Across The Universe & Yesterday. The Fab 4 have Lego sets, Monopoly games, videos games, action figures, etc.

I disagree that he is more popular in death , up until the mid 90s he was as popular as ever.

The early to mid 2000s were obviously a very low point and his career was down the toilet but when this is it was announced the excitement was building again.

His death in 2009 obviously resulted in a big resurgence for the first year at least and his career was in pretty good shape.

2019 was another low point.

If the movie is good and a major success it will be the best thing that could have happened for his post death career.

His concert at Motown after Thriller did 50 million in the United States, in 1993 he had the Jackson 5 American dream show that did 30 million, the Halftime show that did 133 million and his interview with oprah doing 90 million all in the United States. In 2001 his concert did 50 million which is about the same as motown.
His popularity skyrocketed in the 1990s to elder god tier levels, and fell back to normal in the early 00s. From 2009-2016 he was doing record levels of revenue every single year

It declined in 2019, resulting in a another corporate blacklisting in terms of endorsements and marketing, and is only now with the musical, art galleries, cirque de solei etc gradually going back to that level. The biopic actually being made for fans would be the resurgance he needs

Michael has a long way to go then before he reaches that level of fame

After the biopic's everything accuracy and the massive popularity, I hope that Michael will reach that level of fame sooner.

We don’t have to complain really. There have been 2 video games and one cancelled, several tribute albums and one upcoming, a jackson 5 cartoon, action figures

But a big Hollywood film is still missing for sure!
