Oh Mysterious Phoenix, you know me...I'll give it a shot...
"Liberian Girl"
I'll make mention here that we know he already had the concept for this song at the time of the "unauthorized interview" that takes place in front of the fountain at Hayvenhurst, in, um, 82/83ish?...for, he mentions the song by its title.
What stands out to me is that he is having the female, the Liberian Girl, say these words. It is not him saying it to her, but he is having her saying the words to him. This whole song gives me the impression that he has his eye on this girl but this kind of communication hasn't actually taken place yet and so he is thinking about how he would like it to all go if it should/would. He ALREADY knows how he fels about the girl; he now wants to know how she is feeling about him, and these are the words he wishes to hear from her, "I love you, too. I want you, too, My Love"
Liberian Girl . . .
You Came And You Changed
My World
A Love So Brand New
Liberian Girl . . .
You Came And You Changed
Me Girl
A Feeling So True
He's amazed how he feels so differently about this girl. If the feeling of this love for her is making him feel "brand new" and it feels like his life has changed (like there's no turning back) then he could easily assume then that this love must be "true" and it is the first time he felt that.
Liberian Girl
You Know That You Came
And You Changed My World,
Just Like In The Movies,
With Two Lovers In A Scene
And She Says . . .
"Do You Love Me"
And He Says So Endlessly . . .
"I Love You, Liberian Girl"
Just like a screen playwriter, in this song he is writing the scenes and dialogue as he would want them to be. Again, he already knows he loves her, so he has HER say, "Do you love me?" He likes the idea that she has been keeping her love for him hidden and has also been hoping she loves him back. It's as if he has been just waiting for her to please just ask him, 'cause he is dying to tell her, yes, yes, "I love you, Liberian Girl!" Like he's thinking, "What took you so long to ask? I've loved you all along! I'm waitin' on YOU."
(Naku Penda Piya-Naku Taka

(I Love You Too-I Want You
Too-My Love)
Here she is again. He really wants her to say these words to him!
Liberian Girl . . .
More Precious Than
Any Pearl
He sees her as unique, special, different form the rest...
Your Love So Complete
Liberian Girl . . .
You Kiss Me Then,
Ooh, The World
You Do This To Me
More scene creating in the above and next verse below? His wishful thinking...how he'd like it to be? Or do we have some here that would have this all be literal, and say there is a real live girl he is kissin' and is loving him back, and it's an actual relationship going on? Could be. Both ways of looking at this song can be supported, I think.
Liberian Girl
You Know That You Came
And You Changed My World,
Just Like In The Movies,
With Two Lovers In A Scene
And She Says,
"Do You Love Me"
And He Says So Endlessly
"I Love You, Liberian Girl"
(Naku Penda Piya-Naku Taka
Piya-Mpenziwe)
(I Love You Too-I Want You
Too-My Love)
She's back! Man, he wants her to say these things to him!
Liberian Girl
You Know That You Came
And You Changed My World,
I Wait For The Day,
When You Have To Say
"I Do,"
And I'll Smile And Say It Too,
And Forever We'll Be True
I Love You, Liberian Girl,
All The Time
Now we have the mention of marriage vows. This song along with another song from this same album, Bad, makes a reference to marriage...both in the same way.
I Just Can't Stop Loving You.
You Know How I Feel
I Won't Stop Until
I Hear Your Voice Saying
"I Do"
[Siedah]
"I Do"
Notice how in IJCSLY he makes it clear that he won't give up until he reaches this goal(I won't stop)...the goal of the two of them getting married one day. I say one day for a reason. I know AllForMJ has brought up that she noticed that during this era his mind was on marriage and I have, too...but I still think even though he thought he had found the right one, things were still not yet in place. He still had career goals to accomplish first. I have mentioned that I believe MJ makes goals, shelves them, and patiently waits for what he believes is the right timing for those goals to have fruition. To me, it seems, he is one patient man, and always is willing to wait for the right timing of things. He could easily have thought during this time (Bad era) that he found the one he wanted to marry, but was willing to shelf her (sort of speak) until he felt all things were in place. (then, as we have talked about before, something unexpected went "wrong" and messed things up for them). So... if there was a real girl that Liberian Girl is representing, then from the lyrics in the song, it seems he thought he found the one he wanted to marry. Hey, MP, do you think he saw "his unborn children in her eyes?" Hahaha.
(Girl)
I Love You Liberian Girl,
All The Time
(Girl)
I Love You Liberian Girl,
All The Time
(Girl)
I Love You Liberian Girl,
All The Time
Notice "All the Time". We have talked a bit in here about what is "true love" and we have touched on the idea that it is love that is not going away. So it sort of transcends time then, doesn't it? All the time = All Time = For All Time. He wasn't seeing his love for her goin' anywhere, was he? And just like in the lines above I quoted from IJCSLY, where he shows his determinatioin to make this "happen" and even when others would tell him he's crazy to hold on to this "dream" (Heartbreaker)"I never thought that I would stop dreamin' about you...But everyone told me so, to stop caring about you..." well, he doesn't forget about her and he doesn't give up on his dream. In the EVE rap in Butterflies it says,
And ever since the first day you seen her thinking she the wife type
and
All your life you waited for this chick
So all that time has passed and he still hasn't given up hope? Butterflies with the rap was released when 2003ish? That's a long time after the Bad era and Liberian Girl. Also, but can't think of the song I'm meaning, but isn't there also a song with the lyrics, "I try so hard to keep loving you?'" Or something like that. Even when it was hard to do, he was determined to not ever well, let her out of his heart. (Will You Be There) "I'll Never Let You Part/For You're Always In My Heart" and (YANA) "Though we're far apart/You're always in my heart" and "I won't forget you, Girl!"
