Xscape General Discussion

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Kevin Hughes almost confirmed 'Love Never Felt So Good' as the first single.

https://twitter.com/Popprince/status/461142208985718784

I hate how he had to say: "Thriller era vocal ... Classic MJ".

It is the only reason why they are releasing it. It hurts so bad to see how his later work (better, the best work he did) is constantly ignored on purpose. Classic MJ should be Dangerous and HIStory, that is classic MJ. I understand how frustrating that was to Michael.

The curse of Thriller continues..

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I have it and I would love to share it again, but the warning scared the hell out of me. :(

COMPLETELY understand that! I'm sure i will come across it some day no doubt!

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I think the originally first pressing of Dangerous,
with alternative mastering,
was better than the released (official) version.

I don't really doubt that post.
Sure, MJs vocals were ALWAYS GREAT (and i don't just say that, because i want to avoid ridicul).
But, i think, MJs vocals on Thriller were more stronger, higher and more enthusiastic than on latter releases. Starting with Bad, his voice became more deeper, and less enthusiastic.
That's maybe also the reason why people are claiming that his vocal performances on Bad aren't as good as on his previous albums.

Remember: I have absolutely nothing against his songs which were recorded after 1985, just my 2 cents though.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Man, again with the Thriller stuff =( Why can't anyone outside the core fanbase realise that Michaels best came during the 90s!! Its cos they base it on sales and hype, not on actual talent and hard work. Michaels voice and writing in the 90s vastly surpassed his 80s stuff, period.

Honestly, BAD25 WAS a crappy release:

The original album was mastered horribly, all dynamics were gone. Awful listen.

The mastering was awful. Not done with care. The special edition of 2001 was under Michael's supervision it was good compared to the vinyl '87 release.

The concert was unwatchable and badly mixed. The surround audio was poorly done and was almost an insult to David Powell, who recorded this song.

Seriously?? I just cannot agree with you. The SE's are amoung the worst sounding CD's ever. They hurt my ears, even at low volumes. No depth, no sustenance, just a f**k ton of loud s**t abusing your ear drums.

To me, History (or BOTDF, if you count it as a full album) was the last well mixed and master MJ release. Everything since then has been to loud, over compressed, brick walled and just plain f***ing awful!!!

It depends on which equipment you are listening the music on.

I have some pretty damn sick audio equipment thank you ;) What would you recommend to make the SE's sound good then?

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

As for Love Never Felt So Good being the first single I hope that they don't market it as a ''Thriller era track''

I can imagine this here:

Teenager: What the Hell was the
'Thriller-era'?! :) ;)

Panasonic stack system for casual listening. Then I have a PA system in my music room for the best sound.

They will :bored:

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Perhaps some of you listen to music with the ear of a sound specialist too much?

Me? I listen to MJ with my soul. :beach:

As much as I like it, I am slightly uncomfortable with a song so out of time being put onto a "contemporary" Michael Jackson album. In my opinion the Estate should be focusing on releasing the newest material OR the material Michael expressed an interest in wanting to include on a future album before anything else. That's partly why I was so disappointed with the 2010 album - old tracks and COMPLETELY off-target from the sort of album Michael would have put together himself. I mean, the cover art was AMAZING but completely inappropriate to be used for the album. :/

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I understand fans' frustration with how the general public ignores everything post-Thriller and thus ignores much of MJ's actual best work, but I hope this won't result in fans hating on this track just because of that (or because of Anka). OTW-Thriller era MJ is just as much MJ as Dangerous-HIStory etc. era Michael. Yes, it would be great if the general public would actually give a chance to much of MJ's best work, but what can we do? Maybe if people will like this song that will make some of the new generation look deeper in his catalogue and discover the actual gems.

Once again giving off the impression that MJ's best work was from the Thriller era. When that (IMO) is not true. Also going by reviews I've read a lot of people are saying that Do You Know Where Your Children Are is the best song on the album

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Oh good God. onir is infecting twitter with his anti LNFSG rants now. :crazy

It's truly frustrating to see that some of MJ's own fans campaign against this song on public accounts... What is the point? To make the general public think it's crap before they can even give it a chance?

Maybe they should do the trick of promoting ALL of the songs on the album as Thriller era songs. Then the album will be a success. :p

If the album was a success because of that reason then that would be really sad lol

It is. (...............along with Xscape and the other 6 songs)

I hope that LNFSG is a success because it's a good song, and not because it's a Thriller era song.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

It's Michael Jackson's peak. Whether we like it or not. The Thriller era will never be topped. That doesn't mean his work wasn't as good, but it just didn't raise the bar in the way Thriller did which is completely understandable. You have to consider what Thriller did for MJ and music in whole to realise why people only look at Thriller. It's not important now. What's important right now is us getting behind Xscape and promoting the crap out of this great great album and getting a bit of MJ love in the charts again.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Hi. Sorry if I've missed something but has the release date of the single been officially confirmed? I know the title hasn't but everyone seems certain it will be released on the 5th may so I wondered where this came from. Thanks

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Maybe we could through a bunch of questions regarding the actual songs on the album at Qbee, once again?

I'll start with the following:

How does Xscape (the song) compare to 16 sec preview snippet?
(I mean is this snippet an actual part of the song, or was it created just for the purpose of the teaser?)

Would you say we know the outcome of the song (Xscape) by this 16 sec snippet?

How large is the difference between the Xscape mix we know since '02 & the new mix?

Is the beautiful bridge in place (Xscape)?

And the "if you want me, come & get me"?

The opening sound of the prison bars etc.?

Please Qbee, i'm begging you on my knees... Answer some of the questions, please...

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I can understand someone is praising the new music they done for Love, I can understand the praise for production, praise for turning the 1-track Demo into a full song. But why praise the vocals as classic MJ and the best on the album. We all heard the vocals and majority of us heard the vocals from other songs. The fact is Love vocals are neither the best, neither one of the best, neither classic MJ. It can only be classic MJ vocals for a Demo tape.

For those of you who don't know what the demo is and often misuse the term:

"A demo version, also called a sample version (sometimes shortened to demo or sample) of a song is one recorded for reference rather than for release. A demo is a way for a musician to approximate their ideas in a fixed format (tape, disc, or increasingly, digital audio files) and provide an example of those ideas to record labels, producers or other artists. Musicians often use demos as quick sketches to share with bandmates or arrangers or simply for personal reference during the songwriting process; in other cases a songwriter might make a demo to send to artists in hopes of having the song professionally recorded"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demo_(music)

The main part:

"having the song professionally recorded"

So Slave To The Rhythm, Do You Know Where Your Children Are, Chicago, Blue Gangsta, A Place With No Name & Xscape are not Demos. We are not getting the demos on Deluxe, we are getting the original versions (outtakes, professionally recorded in professional studios).

Thriller will never be topped when it comes to sales, but when it comes creativity and artistry Thriller was topped with Bad, Dangerous, HIStory and Blood On The Dance Floor.

Sorry, but that is not exactly good equipment.

If you have full range speakers (can be floorstanders or bookshelf speakers), combined with a receiver or amp with a high quality DAC (digital to analog converter), you'll notice things that you've never heard before. And that's not all, when you'll listen to high resolution audio on this equipment, words can not describe what you're feeling on that moment...

That's the closest you can get to hear what the artist and engineers heard in the studio.
