Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.
When I became a fan back in the 80s, I remember I was listening to OTW, THRILLER and BAD albums over and over again. Only 10 songs on OTW, 9 on THRILLER and 10 on BAD. So frustrating to have so few songs to listen to, I thought to myself. I don't even remember how many copies of THRILLER and BAD cassettes I bought, because I was listneing to them so often that the tape got damaged, broken, unlistenable. I went to the music stores every week and bothered :naughty: the shop assistants over and over again with the same question: "Is there going to be a new MJ album soon?" And their answer was always the same "We have it, it's BAD". Grrrrrrrr, BAD, BAD, BAD, although I absolutely loved it (it's my favorite album), I wanted new songs. BADLY! There wasn't internet, and to obtain some leaks was near to impossible. So I wanted anything from MJ. Any sound, any kind of song! I didn't care if it was going to hit the charts or not, I wanted to hear his voice in a song that I had never heard before. I didn't care about the melody. To me it was like drugs. I was completely addicted to MJ's voice and any kind of music he did.
Then suddenly, I had fears. I thought what would happen when he dies? No more songs? It was like cutting the drug supply to an addict. So I hoped that he recorded a huge amount of songs and that one day or another they wiould be released for generations to come. And of course, I wanted to see him perform forever. I never wanted him to die.
Anyway, the first unreleased and less known songs I heard was back in 1992: Someone Put Your Hand Out" (which I didn't find as good as other songs on Dangerous, but I didn't care, I loved it anyway, cuz it was MJ's voice.) Tell Me I'm Not Dreamin', This Is The Man and Get It.
Before that the first unknown song to me that I had heard on the radio was State Of Shock (cuz it wasn't on any of the three albums I was listening to) and of course Leave Me Alone release later which I was crazy about.
It was like fresh air. I was in heaven.
But today, what do I see here in this thread or in the forums in general? A generation of a bunch of spoiled fans that have everything so easily on YOUTUBE and other web sites. Spoiled to the core and unhappy with almost anything related to MJ.
Man, if they released Niteline, Trouble, and any other les radio friendly songs, I wouldn't give a damn about the charts. Just give me some high quality sound with MJ's voice on it.
As far as the hype is concerned, it is possible to re-create it with people dealing appropriately with MJ's vision, imagination and magic. But as long as some people tend to seek profit out of MJ, then don't expect any hype. Without magic there is no hype. People who deal with MJ's legacy should do it
FIRSTLY out of LOVE
SECONDLY tend to create MAGIC
then and ONLY THEN there will be HYPE
and what comes after hype? MONEY. Eventually they should create magic and then think of money, and not the other way round.
Now, all the debates about Anka and other stuff, well who cares, let's have MJ's songs, all of them released!
