Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

I don't know what speed we expect releases to be, if we got release at the rate we "want" everything would be dried out by 2016.. If we care to continue having releases for as long as possible.. I would like to keep getting material 10-20 years from now..

This year we got the BAD 25 DVD & MJ ONE.. Yes I want more an faster, but considering there is no REAL new material to work with - we have to be a bit more understanding to slower releases.

Tupac has had only 7 albums released after his death, now this is a guy that recorded non stop. He would record several tracks a day at times, and had sooo much music recorded. Pac has been gone for 17 years, that is averaging an album every 2.4 years..

his (tupac's) mother said she found 100 hours of his voice recording's last year too. and i agree with you, they should spread projects out. spanning over a few more decades, an album once every 5 years.. and maybe a blu ray once every 3 years. they have more tape/hd/film footage than they do song's so it might work out to spanning until michael's 100th birthday. which is highly possible.

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

^ we're on the same page again.. I mean I understand why fans want music NOW, I do too.. But if we are really considering long term, we have to understand that we need to keep the 'demand' strong and if music is coming fast the demand dies. That is a big part of why Michael did not release music that often. He understood supply and demand and worked it..

and it'll be fantastic if 20 years down the line, we can hear a song that has never been heard before huh. maybe the will.i.am & red one song's? hopefully this can be as long term as possible. with better quality releases :D

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

Well, I think the estate wants to consider Michael's marketing savvy which was rather iconic. They want sales. So no, they aren't going to cater only to the MJ fans, they're going to try and appeal to casual listeners too. The goal is to avoid over saturating the market. Michael knew this which is part of the reason why his record sales are so high. After BAD 25, the trial and constant news coverage, the estate has to be careful with their releases in order to avoid 'Michael Fatigue' which could be detrimental to future releases in general.

Considering MJ's popularity in a multi dimensional context, we know that future documentaries and films are a clear possibility, balancing this with music is quite difficult. Spaced out releases shouldn't be a surprise. Personally, I like it. Although MJ has passed, it still feels like he's among contemporary stars. Album sales did matter to MJ, so I simply hope the estate gives us a Mike like promotional campaign for the ages. Even laden with controversy, the Michael album pulled in approx 5-6 million copies ww. Sans controversy I think this album could easily pull in 10 million. We're talking about MJ tbh.

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

I understand that releases should be spread out. Its just a shame in a way that in alot of cases concerts/songs are going to be leaked before they are officially released, and when they are officially released they aren't going to have the same impact if that makes sense. Guess can't do much about that though.

Pretty much all unreleased 2Pac material is out there now. Actually it was a long time ago since anything was released. I would say only 2 or 3 or the albums were any good. Makaveli being the best. There is plenty of MJ material left. It all depends on what kind of release you expect. There maybe one or two good MJ albums to come. After that it will get dicey I'm sure. There is a shelf life I believe the next release will be the best. I have feeling there will be a major concert release coming as well. That maybe what there waiting for. Album and concert movie is a big possibility.

the concert movie will more than likely be the HIStory Tour unfortunately, i would prefer it to be BAD Tour of course. HWT just doesn't portray michael at all as well as the earlier tours do..

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

I think we didn't get a new album since "Invincible" all we got was collections including few demos and unreleased songs , "Michael" album didn't satisfy MJ's fans and was disrespectful for many reasons ..so we deserve a real album with many unreleased songs and they must make it very well.

I don't think that's fair. The HIStory tour had Michael's most stunning staging which, in it's self, is an art form. I've never seen a stage to this day match the epic quality of HIStory's. Despite the lack of live vocals, Michael donned his most creative costumes and showed off the tightest dancing I've ever seen. Let's be real, the general public watched This Is It in awe. Fans knew that it was far from Michael's best, but his talent is so far above the standard that his worst will still impress the harshest of critics.

The filming was beautiful, the songs were amazing and don't forget, Michael filmed almost every minute of his life during the HIStory era. The documentary would almost certainly feature candid footage and perhaps miniature interviews with Mike which will without a doubt draw in more supporters for him.

The HIStory tour live in Copenhagen was one of MJ's best shows in general. Imagine seeing him in a theatre putting the audience in a trance as he moves to 'Stranger in Moscow'? It'll be phenomenal.

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

Spring would be a great release date. And maybe a single for Christmas.

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

^ I think that is what we are hoping for the next album.. I mean we will never get a 100% authentic release again because it will not have MJ's final approval nor would it be very recent work. But I believe this album will run much better than the last album 'Michael' and will have tracks that are radio friendly and get around.. We will see though!

I think it'd be great if the album and its first single was announced around Christmas (as a Christmas present for us MJ fans :D) and then the first single released a week or two later in very early January :)

I can't agree at all.
Even in 1996/7 the HIStory World Tour staging wasn't cutting edge. U2's Popmart world tour was around a similar time and that looked much better IMO, and there have been many many tours in the intervening 15 or 16 years that have looked better, which is understandable because technology progresses. By today's standards the HWT is minimalist.

As for MJ's moves. Yes they were good - not his best, but good.
The amount of miming in the HWT will lead to massive critism in the media and by the general public who buy it. It was once common for acts to mime whole concerts but that approach was being frowned upon in 96/97 and MJ faced criticsim at the time. In 2013, a stage show is all about seeing and hearing something different to the album. People do not want to see a person miming to a decades old vocal track, they want to hear live vocals. While MJ was always reaching out for what he believed was perfection, chosing to have 'perfect' vocals by miming to pre-recorded songs would have been very imperfect. It's better to have good live vocals with less dancing than the other way around. If MJ had managed to begin his TII shows he would have been crucified in the media for his miming. Guaranteed. Who wants to see a 50 something pulling out all the old moves he used to perform in his 20s and 30s, but slower, while miming and hideously out of breath? Much better to hear live vocals with the occasional iconic dance routine thrown in for effect IMO. It was unforgivable that he mimed songs like YANA and SIM.

I might sound harsh, but mimed performances lack true atmosphere. I hope they never release a whole HWT concert, but limit the releases to only included selected live segments.

The documentary however would be interesting.

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

Don't they have multi-tracks from these shows with Michael's live vocals? As we know he was singing live but with the playback playing over the top. Maybe if they have access to these multi-tracks they could use the live vocals for the release instead depending on how good the vocals are I suppose. I'd love to hear them.

I think it's going to be Munich 99. MJ and friends. Although I have never seen it? Is there more live singing in it?

there's no live singing at all and it's only got a medley of song's... that'd be the worst release ever tbh. BAD tour concert movie & blu ray is 100% possible. no point in giving us the most lacking when we should be seeing the best.

edit: the korean concert is more visually artistic. still not enough live vocals or anything top like BWT Or DWT though.

Munich:

Korea:

edit: in the korea concert video i posted, from 28 minutes to 32 minutes.. michael speaks to the crowd about love & acceptance and for 5 seconds he sing's quietly to the audience. ''i'm so glad we spent this time together'' my heart filled with butterflies. never seen that moment before.

We don't know how much he would have mimed at TII. By all accounts he would have sung a lot more live than during HIStory (reference: AEG trial). But I agree that to release HIStory tour is not a great idea. At least to give it some high profile (eg. cinema) release. I hope the Estate/Sony come to their senses regarding that plan.

When it comes to live vocals my guess is that This Is It would have been like the Dangerous Tour

I hope they release it. But they should take THE BEST History concert (dancing, lightning, camera angels, setlist, resolution) and overdub the playback vocals with other fitting live portions of the tour from multiple concerts, from rehearsals or alternate studio takes. I hope that's possible.

as we know, he sung beat it with live vocals in amsterdam & sydney. in ostend he sung a portion of dangerous with live vocals. Brunei is on multitracks, as could possibly be more. it'd be awesome if they could do that :)

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

I wouldn't mind the HIStory Tour being released on DVD/Blu Ray as low key fan release, but it should NEVER be released to cinemas. Releasing the HIStory Tour to cinemas would be suicide cause MJ would be ripped to pieces for the obvious 90% lip syncing. If the Estate chooses the HIStory Tour to represent MJ as a live performer to the general public then they'll think that the HIStory Tour must be him at his best cause that's what the estate choose to release.

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

I think they should release it and milk it as much as they can (cinema, 3D, bluray with lots of extras). BUT only if they can overdub at least the most obvious playback vocals. History has mostly better costumes than the previous tour(I always thought the gold suit looks somehow better/more shiny in the '96 concerts? :) ), cool lightning, and in the good shows some of the best dancing MJ ever did!

An additional "problem" for a cinema release will probably be the aspect ratio (4:3). If they have a good source, they could make it 16:9, but that would result in heads/feet/details cut off.

I completely disagree with this entire post.

I can't wait until the HWT is out lol The editing should be absolutely fantastic. I think that it would go phenomenally with the stage lighting and the reflective clothing/jackets. The dancers and instrumentalists were wearing S&M inspired outfits that I often see today in pop culture. Imo, the HWT had the greatest performance of Smooth Criminal, Billie Jean and Beat It. The militaristic opening is slick and iconic. It was just pure showmanship. The dancing, the costumes, the special effects etc. the general public will eat it up simply because it's Michael Jackson. You don't give him enough credit. I've seen plenty of live performances and the classic theatre appearance of the HWT stage is still top notch. I've never seen anything like it.

When it comes to entertainment, I prefer charisma and choreography to live vocals. Again, this is just preference. Michael's vocals will obviously be edited to versions that aren't studio quality in order to avoid backlash. Editing manipulation is simple nowadays. The estate isn't dumb lmao. They did the same thing with TII.

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

The estate has already milked the BAD era for everything it's worth. A theatrical release is the most unrealistic thing I've ever heard LOL.

Some of you guys are forgetting that people watched This Is It in amazement even though it was a 50 year old MJ flexing half his effort during rehearsals. The HWT will set theatres on fire. The thought is absolutely exhilarating. I get chills thinking about hearing that AK 47 before Smooth Criminal shoot across the viewer...or the rumble of the medium sized tank entering the stage through the smoke during Earth Song. Who does that? LOL or even seeing the audience and the dancers/instrumentalists lose it at the end of Beat It in that weird release of energy and lunacy.

The next couple of years sound pretty amazing for MJ fans. :)

The Estate will obviously pull vocals and sounds from various shows and tours in order to create the highest quality piece and the most flattering perspective of MJ. This is standard procedure for any concert movie.

I suggest watching modern day concert documentaries. They're very theatrical and well edited. Katy Perry's, Lady Gaga's, Justin Bieber's etc. it'll help bring perspective.

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

I personally think MJ & Friends could be released, just not on its own.. they could release an MJ performance DVD (not tour) performances by MJ.. OR, what I always thought would be cool..

They could do a MJ charity performance DVD...

Michael Jackson: What More Can I Give?
* Talk about work with Burn victoms in mid 80's and other charity work like giving all Victory tour proceeds to Charity
* We Are The World ( & Hands Accross America footage)
* Heal The World Campaign footage (MJ speech, and talk about his work, footage of him visiting orphanages)
* Ryan White friendship and work with /HIVAids awareness
* MJ & Friends including footage of him arriving and visiting orphanage in 1999
* Heal The Kids Campaign footage (MJ speech, talk of his work)
* What More Can I Give performances (full)
* A Summary of all his work throughout the years, his last message of L.O.V.E.

Things of that sort could be a full DVD..

To make sure I don't fully go off topic to what the thread is about!! I hope this next album really does have an 'awareness' song as Michael tries to put a track or more on most albums of his. very MJ fasion!!

The difference is that This Is It was only rehearsals and was treated as such. The HIStory Tour was a real concert so people would naturally expect more out of a real concert than a rehearsal.

HIStory Tour should NOT represent Michael a live performer.
