Xscape General Discussion

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

"There's definitely music coming, but I can't reveal when we think it's coming," says Branca, who also declined to reveal whether any other Jackson-related projects are in the works beyond album releases. "Michael had a policy that we try to follow-not to talk about things until they're ready to be released. We like to keep things under wraps until we're ready to go with everything. We have ideas and things we're working on, but nothing that we're ready to announce."

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

^ There we go... We have time to wait guys! in a couple months they will have a better idea of where things are heading, and the fact he was reluctant to say if they are working on other stuff tells me there is a definite possibility they are.

We have to learn to be patient with this, I know its hard but it's all we can really do anyways! Consider it a work in progress and alot more still to do. We might as well kill time having fun, continue making CD covers, album ideas, things we'd like to see, song titles wish lists, and promotion ideas.. Things along those lines

I would rather they took their time, I don't want another "Michael" Album

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

I think they're primarily using recording's from the invincible era, which i think is a smart idea. i just hope they don't choose all the leaked tracks. Darkchild's 2001 mix of Slave to the rhythm + the 1989 demo on disc 2 would be awesome, i wouldn't mind if blue gangsta is included. Xscape, if it is included should be a bonus track. A Place with no name, can't get your weight off me, She Was Lovin' Me & I Was The Loser should also be included. Release a promo ep/cd single in february, maybe with A Place With No Name & She Was Lovin' Me.. with instrumentals and accapellas. that would be a wonderful and respectful project imo.

Did Darkchild produced a 2001 version??? OMG!!!

No, as far as we know there is the original version (by LA Reid) and the recent Tricky Stewart/Max Methods remixes with new instrumental. It is not clear if there are any other versions or if Michael ever reworked the original LA Reid Version. I think Rodney Jerkins (Darkchild) said Michael played STTR to him to see waht he thought, but he didn't work with him on the track.

Rodney Jerkins - Darkchild did not work on Slave.

Thank you for clarifying that up!

I wouldn't expect I was a looser or I am a looser. I think it's to weak to be on this album. Done the road I can see it being on something but not right now. JMO. I think they will go for mostly unheard, Atleast I would suguest that. Xscape would be another one I don't want unless it was reworked. Remember this has to be there best effort IMO. There has to be more than we know about. Well I hope that's the case anyways.

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

^ well a song can be changed alottt!!! I mean listen to what MJ and Will.i.am did with 'The Girl Is Mine' Demo.. totally different feels, yes verses were added by will.i.am.. But its just an example of a song changing a lot for an album.. Basically remix it!

im not saying they should remix 'Loser' or not, but no song has to stay the same if it wasnt releasable!

That is true but are we not hoping for MJs vision with these songs. Your right about the girl is mine totally different than the demo. The demo being much better. William butcherd that version that's for sure. Not the best song to begin with but much better than wills supposed remix. If Tim redose these songs that way and they release demos with the new tracks the album would be a disaster. Tweeks are one thing a overhaul is another. My guess is when the new music comes out the demos won't be included. Although I hope they are it would be a huge risk IMO. Wed don't need anymore drama that's for sure.

ehmm... And what do you want now exactly???

1) 'Escape' is one of the best unreleased songs that we know of.

2) 'Escape' has (maybe) THE best bridge Michael ever wrote (& so telling)

3) You can hear the huge effort that was put in. Primary regarding the vocals (huge amount of staccato layerings ala smooth criminal). But also the production of music & beats are huge & fully fleshed out

4) The lyrics: You can just feel him! It's MJ's life story & to me he foretold that only an escape can save him. It's somewhat the last statement regarding all the pressure & expectation he faced - and became even more true 06/25/09.

So again, i think that "Escape" may be the best unreleased song there is regarding all facets, of vocals, production, beats, lyrics, THE HEAVENLY BRIDGE...

And then you say you don't want it in it's state as left by MJ, only reworked. But then you want MJ's vision respected, some sentences later. Who will understand what you want? Especially if you are discrediting some of the best & most complete work MJ left us?

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

i wouldn't mind them releasing the demo of 'best of joy' in the future, i hate the fact teddy used melodyne. yes, michael's vocals could have been out of tune for some split second.. but they should stay true to his final work. from all aspects covered, i think 'She Was Lovin' Me' should be the title track (if featured) it's had rave reviews, and Michael/corey both loved that song. They need to do this justice, it would be nice if there ain't a lot of song's we've heard before. (not 'Xscape'/'Escape' or 'Blue Gangsta' those should be included..)

Everyone is entitled to there opinion. As far as the vocals I think they are great. Not a fan of Rodney's beats or music at all as far as the uptempo songs on Invinceable. Way to much computer made music. Overproduced. Same goes for Wills stuff. Thats why the are bringing in Timbaland. MJs voice I'm sure is great.

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

Escape is decent yeah. Just a pity the chorus is so weak.

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

While I would love to hear several different tracks, it's honestly Slave To The Rhythm that a REALLLLY think would be the albums saving grace for current success. That song sounds like he straight up worked on it like NOW! I could hear that at any club today...

the 1989 demo could be very different, recall monkey business/dangerous (early version) both 1989.. same styles!

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

STTR probably sounds so different in the original. The 2001 version of Chicago, going by a guy who's actually heard it, sounds now. I would LOVE something that doesn't need much/if any work at all to own the world again.

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

STTR needs to get updated for the charts, it will blast everything away - iam sure of that.
but if timbo claims, "chicago" should be the first single, then go with STTR as the 2nd!

regarding Escape: i also think the chorus is abit "weak". ive played the leaked version to several people and most werent impressed about it :/

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

From the few second of Can't Get Your Weight Off Me that we have, it sounds like it could demolish the charts! The beat is just so damn good! I could dance to that. Not sure how finished lyrically it is though.

it could be 100% finished, the song is a masterpiece. i hope michael thought it would have been appropriate to continue working on it. it such a strong piece of work. it needs to be witnessed by the public.

Not sure what you mean by "computer made music." All of Rodney's music was created using keyboards and hardware sequencers, the same way Bad, Dangerous and HIStory were made for the most part. If you're not a fan of his particular sound, the equipment has nothing to do with it. In fact, I guarantee Timbaland is using a more computer-based setup right now than Rodney was using back then. They're just tools.

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

While at the time I thought invincible had a bit much of computer generated sounds.. In today's popular music most music is that way now.. Invincible was just ahead of its time in that regard..

Virtually any song can be made as a hit of updated the right way.. There are some that would become classics though.. Sttr I believe is one, if Tims words are right Chicago maybe, if cgywoom sounds what I picture it to sound, blue gangsta couldddd...

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

Well I'd agree with you there.

For the most part I really dislike the Darkchild production on Invincible. It just sounds so drab and lifeless to me. You Are My World isn't as bad as the others in this regard although it does sound a little sluggish at times. And neither is Threatened.

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

Let's assume the entire album will really be produced by Timbaland (Disc 1, on disc two hopefully the original versions :) )
Would Timbaland even be allowed to reproduce/update the Darkchild tracks? Can the Estate decide something like this without the approval of Rodney Jerkins? If I were Rodney I would probably be pissed when somebody is reworking "my" tracks with no involvement of me, and no knowledge what Michael intended for a particular track. Just a thought...

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

Pentum, this is a bit offtopic, but what happened in 2007? Your signature pic.

I've been relatively surprised since 2010 that Producers have so much power & rights over songs MJ worked on with them. It's (at the very least) Michaels Voice. How is it possible that producers can hold on to vocals from Michael.
For example: Why is 'Joy' in the possesion of TR? And how can it be, that he has possibly lost it?

The vocal tracks of Michael should be in his (the estates) possesion. And the estate should be able to decide what happens with the vocal tracks. And they alone. If they can't come to an agreement with the original producer, be it because of the producers personal reason or because the estate don't want to work with the producer, they should be able to take the vocals to any producer they want.

How can a situation like with WilliAm occur? He shouldn't have the right to keep MJ's vocals! Neither riley, nor jerkins, nor anybody else!
If the tracks can't be finished with the og producer the estate should have all rights with the vocal tracks. It's Michaels voice, to me it's theft, if they keep it!

Producers: Hand over all of the King Of Pop's vocals to the rightful owner, the estate!
(I know i sound idealistic, but i really don't understand those circumstances. It's MICHAEL JACKSON's voice, the voice is the most personal "tool" a singer posses, how can some people take these vocals and store them away at their will???)

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

The "problem" is we don't know what the estate has in terms of material. But strange that the estate is not in posession of "Joy" and Teddy lost it/doesn't want to hand it over. On the other hand, MJ didn't seem to care to have every track properly stored (for himself). So the multitracks are still in the hands of each producer and therefore it is very possible that there are tracks/collaborations the estate has no knowledge of. Or they know certain tracks exist, but the producer doesn't want to cooparate with the estate.
Let's hope for the best. :)

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

The decision can't ENTIRELY be with the Estate.

One of the producers who worked with Michael commented recently something like 'if you give masters to Michael never expect to see them again'. If this is true it would explain why everything seems to a be a bit all over the shop...
