^^I think the Essential is very good album, better than Number Ones. I love it because it has many radio or single edits.

Yes, it's better because it goes a bit more in-depth. On the other hand, it takes away a bit from the potential sales of Thriller. Even though Thriller still does well and is a regular on charts. But it could do even better if Essential would not have 7 of its 9 songs + plus a lot more songs from other albums for basically the same price.

So what are the total sales for xscape so far? I'd really like to now where it stands...

Ps as a little side note, has anyone seen how intense the promotion for Taylor swifts album had been? Larger than any album in recent history here in the states.. Crazy amount

Yeah, but she's American favourite, American sweetheart, young, white and very American (country style). She is 25 and alive so she's doing a lot of promotion herself by going to various shows and doing various concerts and performances. Her record company invests a lot in her because they know it will pay back to them big time.

Amazing. Guinness World Records listed it in 2006 as the "most successful music video", selling over nine million copies. I wonder if it has tipped the 10 million mark.

I came across her promo schedule for this week and she's making like over 50 (!!) appearances on tv and radio. Talk about overkill. I can't think of any other pop star that's getting the promo this girl is getting. Crazy.

Wow, I had no idea Garth Brooks was popular in Croatia. Always thought his fan base was from English-speaking countries, mainly North America. Life is full of surprises...

It's just one radio station - Radio Istra, where he's that high (#2). On overall combined radio chart he's at #88 (peak was #83). So I wouldn't say that he's popular in Croatia. Maybe he has some fans requesting the song on that station (maybe some other stations as well).

I really think Sony didn't take advantage the boost LNFSG and the billboard appearence gave to the album but I admit is quite difficult promoting a deceased artist. Michael can't tour, give interviews, appear on events or make special performances anymore. Anyhow, he didn't need to shove himself down on people's throat when he was alive to make his records successful unlike Taylor Swift.

I see from the list Onir posted, the number for Xscape didn't change from last week.

That's because the album is out of Top 40 so they don't have the exact numbers. So, this is just an estimation. At the end of the year they'll post full list where they'll count total sales including the weeks outside the Top 40.

Yeah, imagine if he had 50 TV appearances and performances when Thriller was out! He would sell 100 MIL records! He had just 1 performance and maybe few TV appearances/interviews (if any).

^Naw, Michael promoted himself masterfully. His long absences made us missing him and some of us thought all the time we waited was worthwhile. Also people didn't fed up with him, he didn't cause annoyance because he was careful to not overexpose himself. I hate today's music because many of those acts shove themselves down my throat (many people's.) Michael mastered when it came to surprises and creating expectations.

I don't get why she's so popular.

To me she's boring as hell.

No one will remember her in 30 years time.

Taylor Swift new album sold a crazy amount (well, compared to today's market) in its first week (it was close to one million with half of the data coming in when I saw it) so expect it to catapult to near the top of the overall 2014 charts.

I don't get her popularity either but it is what it is. (She is also massively promoted, let's not forget that.)

She is popular because there a millions of teenage girls in the world. She is not my cup of tea she makes me cringe. Her popularity now compared to MJs in the 80's is not even close. Oh well I guess it's her time now.

She's 25, pretty and wears cute retro clothes and is perfect for the 15-35 yr old record buying public. That's the demo all record companies want.
The difference is at 25 Michael performed Billie Jean and everyone from 15 to 100 yrs old went out and bought that album. THAT is true pop. What the word really means.

She is popular because there a millions of teenage girls in the world.

There is Ariana Grande... and other teenage idols. The main difference between all of them and Taylor is that she's white American. She's not mixed races or anything, she's a symbol of white country America. She's like female Elvis and she'll always be that. With talent or not, she'll always be most talented, with good looks or not, she'll always be most beautiful, with good album or not, she'll always sell more than a million in first week. It's American reality.
