LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE: We told you it would be a squeaker. 24 hours before the HITS Album Sales Chart closes, there's a dead heat for #1 between Turn Blue by Warner Bros.' The Black Keys and Epic's from-the-vaults Michael Jackson set, XSCAPE. Both titles are trending upward and look set to finish in the low 160s. In a race this tight, any number of usually marginal factors—including vinyl—could make a big difference. Stay tuned. (5/19p)

vinyl?? So Shit Keys released the vinyl also? Ha! Not fair. I also bought Xscape vinyl but that is not released yet so it doesn't count!

52% in and MJ's current in the #1 spot! It's very very close!

50% ... 90.000 Sales
that means 100 % 180.000 ???

No...It just meant 52% of the retailers have reported their sales for last week. There are still 48% who haven't submitted their numbers. Depending on who they are, MJ could extend his lead or vice versa.

Oh okay. So they are expecting around 90000 sold albums. ;)

Is 160.000 good these days? - if it is enough for #1 it can't be bad.

I have no idea what good sales are anymore. - Just hope MJ wil get a #1 US album again !!!

This thing is making me nervous. I thought about the chart position all day today. The news looks good though, so I am keeping my fingers crossed for a win!

Do we have a updated on where Michael is in the chart?

Tues is the next updated MJ is still holding number 1:clap:

You were amazing and did the most to help...the iTunes results were a lot closer than I anticipated, so I am sure your gifts were a nice contribution.

No, not for now. We'll know more tomorrow.

I thought they'd have another one by 10PM EDT (7PDT)

While we weren't watching:

10,000,000 under a week. I think LNFSG could move within distance of Top 10

Why is coldplay so popular and how do they get so many #1's. ive never heard of them

10,000 is a big gap, when 52% is in, and iTunes results are done and dusted.

Vinyl sales are a drop in the ocean, and will not effect the outcome.

If MJ has slayed on physical store sales - which I believe he has - then this could be the biggest #1 for MJ in many a year!

Keep you fingers crossed guys!

(On a different note: the record industry has gone incredibly low. You sell 3000-4000 copies (projecting the current sales number of the 50th placed album) of a record and you are in the Top 50 of the Billboard charts. Tragic. There really is no money in record making any more.)

Apart from if you're selling records with the name "MICHAEL JACKSON" on, of course.:cheeky:

Because there are so many "artists" , I have never heard of many of them in top 100, I couldnt keep track even if I would be interested, they release a single, it hits number one and then you never hear of them again because another one pops out, and so many collaborations and featuring , seems very chaotic to me.

I don't think they will make much money with Xscape though -- it's tough.

as compared with Cirque

^^ That's true.

I am just saying that the estate won't make much money on Xscape (since MJ is not here to tour) as they made with Cirque and it seems much easier. Not much effort, and less criticism ha ha

Do we know where the early sales come from?
This is important;
If it's from pre-orders and iTunes, then MJ has a chance to overtake them on superior physical sales.
Any Xperts on HDD around?
I’ve heard that iTunes reports their sales first, then Amazon, then physical retailers. But I’m not sure about that, because HDD did these partial updates for Beyonce as well, and that album was released on iTunes only. Sometimes I think these partial updates are just a way for HDD to get more traffic to their site.

I’m happy with those sales. Some weeks the number 1 album sells less than 100 000 so I’d say 160k is a healthy number.

Unless you are Taylor Swift or Adele

I don't think even they could sell as many records as they did a couple of years ago. Probably more than the average, but nowhere near to the amount 21 sold. Even in the last couple of years general sales have gone down massively.
