We Are The World 25 for Haiti / Official video now in first post.

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

Speaking of - I was reading other ppl's comments about how the ppl made some very rude comments about mj when he was here ; someone told me that Slash even said he wouldn't allow his kids to be with MJ at one point...
Yes that's true. Slash falls in the same category as Jones himself, as for Lionel Richie to my knowledge he didn't say anything negative about Michael during the trial or at any other point.

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

No offense, but this line-up is a joke, in my opinion!

I just read a YAHOO article that describes the "Notable absences of major Grammy winners." (Wasn't that the point of recording this remake right after the Grammy telecast?)

In the article Randy Phillips says that "he most regrets Lady GaGa NOT showing up."

Justin Bieber sang Lionel Richie's part. LOL!

Josh Groban described the event as "inspired chaos." (Whatever that means.)

Lil Wayne said he was not a singer (true dat), but he was asked to "sing" Bob Dylan's part. (As if!) When asked if he did a better job, Lil Wayne said "hell no!"

The article goes on to say that "Country and Latino artists were notably under-represented."

And here's my favorite part of the article: "Organizers said they were turned down for various reasons by some stars. In fact, most of the BIG Grammy winners from the night before were absent, including Beyonce and Jay-Z, who returned to New York, and Taylor Swift, who flew to Australia straight after the ceremony."

Finally, the article states that Michael Jackson's sister Janet Jackson, who was not present at the session, was scheduled to sing his lines from a studio in Atlanta on Tuesday. (So much for Michael being included.)

My note: I guess Quincy's pull ain't as vast as he THINKS it is!

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

I miss Michael in that song. We are the world was my favourite song when I was little. I fall in love with Michael`s music at that time.

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

I will always prefer Michael's demo version over any other version. Now THAT's beautiful.

Re: *VIDEO* Info regarding Prince & Paris WATW contribution.

exactly, some fans get over-excited about the kids that they fail to reason. they are kids and the industry is trying to exploit them. i know some thought it was good for the kids to appear at the grammy because they wanted. didn't these fans read the statement that joe jackson released to CNN. this was what Joe said:

"There has been some recent rumours that I am displeased with the idea that Michael's children are accepting the award on my son's behalf.
"On the contrary, I (Joe) am very proud of my grandchildren. katherine (his wife) and I are the ones who INITIATED participation."

keyword: INITIATED. it wasn't the kids idea since they didn't initiate it.

my worry is if these kids are old enough to appear on a televised grammy, then logically, Prince is old enough to appear as a witness for Dr. Murray; given that he was apparently called by the doctor.

we start reasoning up and stop transferring our obssessions fom mj to his kids.

edit; sorry to anyone who might be offend but i feel these are kids and should be allowed to be kids.

Thank you.

Like others have mentioned before - if the kids end up being summoned for everything that is in honour of their father or meant to continue his legacy, it won't be long before they become part of the witch-hunt.

Maybe I'm being too pesimistic, but seeing how Michael was hunted down - and he KNEW what he was dealing with! - I don't wanna imagine what they might do to his children, who are new to this.

I pray that the family protects them as much as possible.

Wish this was just a horrible nightmare...

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

This is just like when Hollywood does movie remakes of classics.
Shame that some feel they are too big to join in ( Beyonce and Jay-Z ) Beyonce even copied MJ with her 'drill team' at the Grammy awards and then in all her 'originality' she sang an Alanis Morissette song ... and Jay-Z thinks his shit don't stink yet he has to be the worst hip-hop artists ever. I even put Lil' Wayne ahead of him !
I really like the spirit of Taylor but not showing up is a little sad but maybe she really needed to head off for something. If not then that's really sad.

Bottom line is this should have never been redone. They should have just repackaged the old and added new promotion and donated proceeds to Haiti.

I think your sentence regarding "the bottom line is this should have never been redone," is why some folks did not show up.

Maybe some of the artist, like Jay-Z, Beyonce, Lady GaGa, felt the same way as you do. Maybe some artist did not want to take part in this remake, knowing that the ORIGINAL cannot be duplicated.

I would have to agree with them.

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

:eek:No NONONONONO!!! This is just wrong...What the H*LL is going on????? I JUST hope the source got this info wrong Because this is SOOOO WRONG IN SOOO MANY Ways!!!!

Eminem???(Hater) Lil Wayne???(Hated on Mike on his log) Jamie FOXX????(Dont any one remember what he said bout Mike on Oprah????) ohh and it gets better...There's gonna be a change in the LYRICS???? And Janet's VOICE Will be digitally inserted in MICHAEL's Parts??? WT* Is wrong with these people.

I'm sorry i'm Pisst right now. Some of you may tell me to take a chill pill, but not til i finish this...

Michael WROTE That song. He got the LYRICS and everything. He was the one who sung the whole thing ALONE!!! BEFORE Others were added!!!

If they were gonna change the LYRICS, they should've done another song entirely!!! You DO NOT Touch An ORIGINAL! If this is all true...then I'm ashamed to say Quincy or Lionel are NOT at all good decision Makers!!!

I'm about to go to school now and I am NOT in a good mood. Way to ruin this for me...

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

Completely understandable if MJ fans (e.g. earthlyme) are pissed about an all time classic possibly being murdered.

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

I really thought they would have kept Michael in the song. I got the impression of that yesterday. I guess I haven't learned not to believe everything until it actually happens.

fact: repackaging the old song wouldnt have raised half as much money as the new one.

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

Hmm. . . Nothing will ever beat Michael, Diana, Stevie and Smokey all holding hands in that front row. Now those are legends. I also think it says something that Beyonce, Jay, Lady Gaga, and Taylor didn't want to be in it. Now there are big names in the room, but those are the biggest of the last year and it would have been a coup for Quincy to get them.

Now I am mad that someone insinuated that Lionel Richie would speak badly about Michael. He has never spoken negatively about Michael and they have been friends since Michael was a child. The two had organized playdates btw their younger kids before Michael has passed, so they were obviously still in touch with each other. Now there are some people to hate on, but Lionel Richie is not one of them.

Hate on Quincy all you guys want because I hate him too! :)

You cant state that as fact when it hasn't been released, unless you are Nostradamus
With the release of 'This Is It' I am quite sure it would have been just as big if they were to promote the right way. Besides, how many fans of these new artists are going to actually buy the new one as opposed to downloading it ...

Word. Lionel's been loyal. :)

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

Really not a big fan of this. Sounds way too modern sounding for my liking, with the hip-hop beat and all that. In the end its for those in Haiti but that doesn't mean we have to like the song. I could donate the same amount as the song would cost and there would be no loss.

I'm pretty sure I can say this song will have much less impact now than it did 25 years ago, no matter how 'new' and 'cool' it sounds. They could have re-realeased and remastered WATW '85.

Looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

Did you notice that some of the stars, and BEP especially, wear outfits similar to MJs jackets and military style?

Yeah im pretty worked up too. I know its for a good cause but I wish they would have wrote a new song. Why try and recreate history?

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

I'm surprised Madonna has not joined

And no Beyoncé, Gaga, Taylor Swift... come on... we do know what is thal all about... and who are the Grammy winners...
They won their Grammys and .. they are fine..., for what such charity from them... they dont need it... they won Grammys, come on... :tease:

Id call it - hypocrisy

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

As I suspected, no magic.

Too bad because I adore so many of the artists involved......but they are all missing the key ingredient..... CHEMISTRY.

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

would have been nice if they could release "Cry", "What More Can I give, and "We've Had enough" on a CD for charity. I know MJ was not the only one to sing those sort of songs but his are all heartfelt cause it came from his heart and was his passion in helping people.

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

This seems to be less about Haiti and more about Quincy Jones and his XXXL sized ego, IMHO
