We Are The World 25 for Haiti / Official video now in first post.

Re: *VIDEO* Info regarding Prince & Paris WATW contribution.

Not sure if this is a good idea. I know people are saying they are old enough to make their own decisions, but they're not really. Prince is 12 and Paris is 11 (is that right?). When they're 18 they should be allowed to do whatever the hell they want. But they are still kids and they need someone looking out for their best interests. Is it really in their best interests to be making so many public appearances? We all know Michael was very VERY paranoid about them being seen in public. I don't believe he would've been happy with the Grammy's and I don't believe he would want them singing on this WATW project either.

I'm sure he's immensely proud of them and how dignified and gracious and mature they obviously are. But Michael was their dad at the end of the day. Who is stopping to think about what he would've wanted for them??

I totally agree.
I don't have children of mine, but I think an eleven year old is a kid.
They need to be protected AND advise on what to do. C'mon!!! That is what parents do, don't they? Just because your kid/girl want to do something, if that is not the best for her/him, you wouldn't allow her/him to. So.... shouldn't this be the same for Michael's kids?

I hope the Grammys was THE ocassion and now they will go to their private life. I am fine with the recording of WATW, but I think the way they use the names of MJ and his kids to get attention to the song is simply TOO MUCH.

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

don't really like that line up :/ doesn't really show the greatest talent from their generation like it did back in 1985. Where's Beyonce John Legend Alicia Keys Justin Timberlake?

not sure how good this will sound now.

I love Lionel Richie but on this occasion he is a liar........

First, he said that all the stars from the Grammys would be there but in fact most of the big winners failed to turn up!!!

Second, he said that there will just be the new generation of artists and then he invites oldies like Gladys Knight and Barbera Streisand!!!!!!!!

Re: *VIDEO* Info regarding Prince & Paris WATW contribution.

I heard Janet is gong to sing MJ's part.

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

*church*
Everyone summed it up

This is a mess and plain lazy...the intensity being better than 1985??
we will see....the song will tell it all

I must admit I'm to know that Faith, EWF, and alot of the older artists are involved and it's not complete current mainstream trash....but I agree 100% with vncwilliam.

Yea, there isn't even as much hype about it as the original got!

Back here in the UK, this is barely mentioned in the entertainment news............but then again, even Simon Cowell's all star charity remake of the REM "Everybody Hurts" is barely getting much mention here!!!!

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

The use of MJs kids.. money money money -all their young fans who are on these paris, prince, blanket fansites will want to buy it. I know its for a good cause, but using the children for that :/ and after what Quincy said about them!

Lil Wayne and Eminem ..after the things they called Michael.. lol great..

This is not for Michael, I know its for charity but we don't have to like this, or buy it.

We can donate to charity without buying this.

I totally agree.
the way the have used the kids is repulsive.
The ends DON'T justify the means!!

This is not for Michael, BUT... the name of Michael is being used and abuse to get attention.

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

nothing beats the original. The singers from that era really blew me away especially Michael. His voice really topped it all. No one's ever gonna replace Michael or the singers that did the original :( I like the Cyndi Lauper part too. Her part really captured me. I dont know about the whole remake but the snippet was kinda ok to me.

Re: *VIDEO* Info regarding Prince & Paris WATW contribution.

I heard Janet is gong to sing MJ's part.

Well.... she's old enough to make her own decitions :D

I saw that too.... :ermm: well... another way to get the "Jackson" trademark on it.

Oh myyy....

Re: *VIDEO* Info regarding Prince & Paris WATW contribution.

Personally I don't like this at all, If Michael still was alive you'd think he'd wanted them to go in the studio and record? IMO No, they were still having their masks on in public for gods sake.

Now things are different, and they don't have their father around anymore, maybe they WANT to do this, maybe they want to be a part of the tribute themselves instead of watching them on theese award shows.
But I am concered about that maybe theres no one around them to teach them the filosofies (sp) of life they were taught to by their father, I mean they way Michael raised them. They're going into a totally different direction then what they would have by now, if Michael was still here.

Michael did however say that if they wanted to go into showbiz and was prepared and knew what it meant then they would have his permission.
I'm just not sure if they are aware of what the business is like, and I guess I'm worried for them, becuase I don't want to see them being treated the way michael was.

PUH-LESE!

This is for a good cause! and like Prince said he will continue to spread his father's message so by being a part of this Prince and Paris are doing just that. Besides they stopped wearing masks way before MJ's death and If I recall correctly MJ wanted to bring them on stage during his TII concerts.

That's exactly what I'm thinking...............

How many 12 year olds in the world are able to make decisions for themselves............people forget when they were kids and they didn't know much about the cold and cruel World that we live in.

But then again everybody wants to destroy Michael's children as they tried to do the same to him..........I bet these people are hoping that the children will go off the rails and get into drugs and crime........but that'll NEVER happen!!!!!!

Who said she wasn't?
Oh and for the artists and celebs that couldn't make it to the recording they used a green room to just add them in

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

I don't think the kids have been used at all. If they were then we would have seen them between the memorial and the Grammys. There were other award shows, a reality show, etc. I have never seen such a negative bunch, which is unfortunate since we are fans of one of the most positive people.
Anyway IMO if your not happy with it then you don't buy it. But why the need to bash it continually?

Streisand: ‘How Will My Nose Look in 3D?’
By: Roger Friedman

Barbra Streisand was the last to arrive at Henson Studios on Monday afternoon. She went directly to see producer Quincy Jones, who was in the control room of Studio A. Out in the actual studio there were 80 famous musicians.

“Is there room for another person?” Streisand asked Jones. He laughed. “I’ve known you since you were 16!” he declared. Later, Streisand, realizing that director Paul Haggis was filming live in 3D, laughed and asked, “How will my nose look in 3D?”

The answer was: great. But the real highlight of an amazing five hour recording session was Streisand’s solos. Her lines in the Lionel Richie -Michael Jackson song: “There’s a choice we’re making/We’re saving our own lives” and “It’s true we make a brighter day/So let’s start living.”

Jennifer Hudson, who’d performed a tribute to Streisand two nights earlier at Clive Davis’s annual pre-Grammy party, watched with amazement. “No one sings like her,” Hudson said. “Just listen to her phrasing.” In the studio, Patti Austin — a great singer herself — gave Streisand direction as Quincy Jones’s second-in-command. And she took it.

Later Streisand went and sang in the chorus, joining in with the others. It was a delicious rarity to see her among other recording stars. She is usually apart from the crowd. But not on Monday, when the room was full of old and new, young and old. What everyone learned from this session: Streisand is the greatest pop singer alive. She’s inherited Sinatra’s mantle.

Before Streisand arrived, only two other artists had laid down their work. Carlos Santana recorded a guitar lead and Celine Dion did her own solo vocal. Before the day was over, Hudson, Natalie Cole, Gladys Knight, India Arie, Usher, Keith Urban, Wyclef Jean, Pink, and a few others would record solo leads.

But there were plenty of other singers and performers in the chorus. They included a legend — Tony Bennett — plus Jamie Foxx, will.i.am, Adam Levine, Jason Mraz, Rob Thomas, members of Earth Wind and Fire, the Jonas Brothers, T Pain, both Brian Wilson and Al Jardine of the Beach Boys, Harry Connick Jr., Toni Braxton, Sean Garrett, Julianne Hough, Bebe Winans, Nancy and Ann Wilson, Brandy, Randy Jackson, Jeff Bridges, Vince Vaughn, Anthony Hamilton, Mya, Mary Mary, Akon, Jordin Sparks. LLCool J, Enrique Iglesias, Isaac Slade of the Fray, Snoop Dogg, Miley Cyrus, Faith Evans, Haitian singer Jimmy Jean Louis, “Slumdog Millionaire” composer A.H. Rahman, and 70s pop star Freda Payne of “Band of Gold” fame.

With the chorus assembled in the very hot and unairconditioned Studio A, Wyclef Jean made a short speech about Haiti today. Then director Haggis talked about his experiences there recently as well. And then the recording began.

In the green room, Lionel Richie’s extended family set up shop: ex wife Brenda, daughter Nicole, her husband Joel Madden, and his brother Benji, all played with Nicole and Joel’s very cute 2-year-old girl, Harlow.

Outside in the courtyard of A&M/Henson, several rockers gathered, smoked and speculated about how Jones and executive producer Randy Phillips were going to handle things like solos. “Life is still like high school,” observed Maroon 5’s Adam Levine. “You wonder who’s going to get picked for which team,” said Rob Thomas of matchbox twenty.

Meanwhile, some artists followed Streisand into the solo booth: Josh Groban and Natalie Cole were among the first. They were flawless. Fifteen-year-old Justin Bieber may need some cleaning up in the final mix. But he wasn’t the youngest performer: that was Ethan Bortnick, the piano prodigy.

And all the time this was going on, Quincy Jones’s assistant, Rebecca, had the presence of mind to get the entire group of 80 to sign an enlarged copy of the “We Are the World” sheet music. Gladys Knight was the last to sign — the R&B legend had been working hard for five hours. She posed with the sheet music, giving her usual infectious smile. “I wouldn’t have missed this for anything,” she said.

More to come from “We Are the World 25″…And no, just in case you heard it somewhere (like on those syndicated celeb shows): No— Michael Jackson’s kids are not involved in this project and were not there today. What a weird untrue rumor.

Re: *VIDEO* Info regarding Prince & Paris WATW contribution.

If the children want to go and sing because they wanted to without people forcing them, I guess Michael would allow it ? Not sure but in his memoir he said if his children wanted to be in the show business then just do it. Anyway, that's quite long ago and maybe Michael changed his mind about letting his children doing this

Re: *VIDEO* Info regarding Prince & Paris WATW contribution.

Ok, I'm confused. First, I hear that the kids might sing. NOW, I'm hearing that they might read a poem at the end of the song.

Does anyone know what's actually going to happen?!

Re: We Are The World to be re-recorded for Haiti.

I don't think MJ's voice will be included, I am sure instead they will include the jackson nephews. Because according the the AP, none of the original performers are on the remake.

The AP lie all the time so I wouldn't trust them.

I hope the person in the studio is right and MJ is included.

PS. Since when does Nicole Richie sing?

Re: *VIDEO* Info regarding Prince & Paris WATW contribution.

Nobody knows for sure. My guess would be the same as yesterday when they claimed they were coming, I don't think they will be a part of it

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

Thanks for sharing. It sounds promising, but I don't like how they sing "better day"...

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

This project has gone down hill IMO. I guess Quincy and Lionel were just afraid to say no. Still kinda interested in what will come of all of it.

Unecessary hate on Kanye in here too. Someone please tell me why he wouldnt care about whats going on in Haiti? So misunderstood I swear! :(

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

Yes I know the tune is different to meet with new styles of music but come on leaving MJs verse in there, is that too much to ask after all he was one of the people who co-wrote the song and shared the vision of love, hope and unity around the globe with the whole project, I think personally it's a shame they don't reconise MJ, specially now after he is no longer with us, Although I am going to keep an open mind about the song until I hear it in its finished version....

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

All it sounds like, is a hip-hop remix that can be found online.

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

Speaking of - I was reading other ppl's comments about how the ppl made some very rude comments about mj when he was here ; someone told me that Slash even said he wouldn't allow his kids to be with MJ at one point...

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

All this bickering about a charity song? Its good that all of these stars have come together to do this song. Some may have alterior motives, but I think most, if not all of them are them are there to do what they can. These people have very hectic schedules and could be somewhere brokering a deal and making their own money, but instead, they're trying to help out.

We need to stop dwelling on what some of these artists have done in the past and focus on right now and the future.

Yea I agree. I guess some just are taking it too personally or something. Its for a good cause in the end.

Re: Live -- 'We Are the World' Remake

Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- Dozens of recording stars converged on a Hollywood studio on Monday evening to add their voices to a song they hope will raise millions of dollars for Haitian earthquake relief.

The lyrics and music are an updated version of "We Are the World," a song that raised at least $30 millions for African humanitarian programs 25 years ago.

Music legends -- including crooner Tony Bennett and Barbra Streisand -- stood with newcomers -- including 15-year-old Justin Bieber and country artist Zac Brown -- in the crowded studio Monday night.

Lionel Richie and the original producer, Quincy Jones, gathered "a diverse group of contemporary superstar artists" at the same studio used for the 1985 recording session," organizers said in a news release. Richie co-wrote the first song with Michael Jackson.

The production team includes producer-musician Wyclef Jean, producer RedOne and producer-musical director Ricky Minor, the statement said.

The world premiere of the new "We Are the World" will take place during the NBC network's coverage of the Winter Olympics opening ceremony in Vancouver, Canada, on February 12, it said.

Paparazzi and security surrounded Henson Studios, just off Hollywood's Sunset Boulevard, as limousines delivered the stars Monday for what was expected to be a marathon overnight recording session.

Smokey Robinson, who sang on the original, said the roster of 100 singers asked to take part does not include any of the 45 stars from the previous version.

Legendary crooner Tony Bennett and Beach Boy original Brian Wilson were among those seen entering the studio Monday evening.

Many of the stars were already in Los Angeles to attend Sunday's Grammy Awards show.

The original 1985 roster of artists was packed with such superstars that Jones placed a sign above the studio door that read: "Check your egos at the door."

The roster of artists made public by organizers includes: Carlos Santana, Orianthi, Jennifer Hudson, Jamie Foxx, Sugarland, Adam Levine, Jason Mraz, Earth Wind & Fire, Natalie Cole, The Jonas Brothers, T-Pain, Brian Wilson, Justin Bieber, Nicole Scherzinger, India.Arie, Julianne Hough, Mary Mary, Melanie Fiona, BeBe Winans, Mya, Tyrese Gibson, Anthony Hamilton, Raphael Saadiq, Gladys Knight, Keri Hilson, Joel and Benji Madden, Heart, Brandy, Pink, Musiq Soulchild, Miley Cyrus, Akon, Jordin Sparks, Celine Dion, Rob Thomas, Katharine McPhee, Jeff Bridges, Randy Jackson, Patti Austin, Kid CuDi, Usher, Will.i.am, Kanye West, LL Cool J, Issac Slade (of The Fray), Snoop Dogg, Nicole Richie, Trey Songz, Ethan Bortnick, Taryll Jackson, Taj Jackson, TJ Jackson, Vince Vaughn, Drake, Freda Payne, Faith Evans, Robin Thicke, Rashida Jones, Barbra Streisand, Jimmy Jean Louis, Enrique Iglesias, Zac Brown, Lil Wayne, Tony Bennett, Josh Groban, Sean Garrett, Harry Connick Jr., Al Jardine, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony (Bizzy Bone) and A.R.Rahman

CNN's Denise Quan contributed to this report.
