Official MTV Video Awards Thread [Janet Jackson, Trailer, Spoliers Here]

Oh man, that trailer is just....he looks so HAPPY! Can't stop watching it.
Being funny, joking around, enjoying the music and the dance, loving everyone, creating the magic only he could.
He looks even better than years ago! With his curls for his girls....ohmygod.

You know, I keep wondering what he will think of all this....when he looks down...seeing us talking about rehearsal footage and a movie...while it should have been HIS concerts...not a movie brought by some company, but HE should've been there, on stage...getting his final applauses and being overwhelmed by our love.:(
And just the thought of that this will never, ever, ever happen....is just too much, way too much to take.
I feel so powerless for him, after all that he's done for this world...'not fair' is not even the right word....it's beyond words.
His magic is destroyed by this cruel world and I will and can never give that a place.
I'm broken into a thousand pieces.

The trailer was just AMAZING! And the performance too!!

However also heartbreaking..

The tears are coming back.. :'(

WTF!!!!!!!!
I'm reading on the TMZ web site that they think that Madonna's speech was all about herself and she did it to get attention not to honor Micheal there doing a poll about it "who was more self-indulgent Kanye or Madonna?"
how stupid can ppl be?
those were very beautiful heartfelt words they made me cry
why the hell do ppl love to twist every thing

Omg, that was amazing , I loved it. I cried when Janet was dancing with Michael on the screen then the scream picture of them two was up

I guess they didn't like the witchhunt part.

I'm reading that the whole Kanye/Taylor thing was staged...?! Was that purposely to steal the limelight? Really?

Well it's obvious that Kanye took Taylor Swift's moment for her award - but I think it was another egocentric act of Kanye's douche-baggery.

I really enjoyed the tribute to Michael last night. There was so much anticipation for it that I didn't know how I was going to feel from what I saw. The only thing that I would have wished more is for it to have been longer and maybe have a video montage of how MJ and MTV grew up together, his appearances at award shows, etc.

Madonna's speech made me cry. In her way, she was trying to tell the world that even though Michael was a larger than life person, he was also very much a human being that is no different from you and me. I loved how she used the words 'witch hunt', 'lynch mob' to describe how the world was treating Michael. When she said that she had felt that she had abandoned him and felt the whole world had abandoned him, I really felt like she meant that from her heart and that she truly felt like she had let him down. I don't know the extent of MJ and Madonna's interactions went, but I do think that she admired him a lot. She was one of the first to release a statement after he had died and had incorporated a tribute to him in her concerts. I wonder whose idea it was for her to do this speech, hers or MTV's?

I enjoyed the dance tribute for one reason only. . . to see Michael's video being played out on a huge movie screen! LOL! I wasn't even watching the dancers because they were so tiny and an 80 foot Michael was dancing better than any of them on the screen behind them. But what did I see of the dancers' tribute, I did like. Except it sucks that that one guy couldn't get the grip to do the lean in SC. He was out in front too, so it was hard not to notice.

What was also fun was seeing all the smiles and excitement on the faces of the celebrities like Beyonce, Solange, Pink, Jennifer Lopez and Alicia Keys. Even Kanye was smiling when SC came on. They all looked like they were rocking at an MJ concert because they were smiling, singing along, and dancing.

Janet's Scream tribute was the best. I keep going back to watching that part. I think that was her voice and it was just hoarse. IDK. . . maybe she got emotional or something. We've never heard her perform Scream before, so when performed live it might not have the same tone in her voice. I think she did a wonderful job. She was fierce and angry and just worked it! But at the end, the expression on her face was heartbreaking. Before she got the angry face, for a split second she looked up and looked like she was about to break down in tears. She looked like a little girl to me at that very moment. Then she sort of hardened her face and acknowledged the crowd. I think that performance was really hard for her to get through, no matter how much rehearsal she put into it.

One question, how did they remove Janet from the Scream video during the dance breakdown?!?

Lastly, the TII trailer. There are no words. . . Michael looked on point and ready to take back the world. The footage from the Dome Project looked really interesting. The Dirty Diana sequence was killer! Michael looked thin, but not frail to me. He looked good dancing and I loved the beatboxing part! And those gold pants. . .. LOL!

How odd that TMZ would see Madonna's speech as self-indulgent. I thought it was sweet and to the point. It's only natural she'd draw on her personal memories when talking about Michael.

I loved the tribute with Janet too. She did a good job honoring her brother and the look on her face at the end spoke so much.

I didn't bother following what exactly Kayne West did but from what I'm reading here, he didn't act maturely at all.

Oh, the trailer! It took me ages to locate it... I LOVE IT! Michael seems in his element in the trailer. It's very well put together. Only... He should still be here! I might be tempted to buy the DVD after all. We'll see, I'll probably change my mind a dozen times before the DVD comes out. Bottom line: Michael should have had his chance to shine once more - in person!

TMZ did not understand the point of her speech then. I too think they didn't like how she pointed out that the media was ruthless in their pursuit in ruining Michael and that they had contributed to his suffering.

IDK about you guys, but I understood what she was trying to do when referring to herself in the speech. They have some surprising similar things in common in their personal lives that I didn't know of and she as trying to point out how a lost childhood had shaped Michael and how a lost parent had shaped her. But she never brought up her career nor accomplishments compared to Michael's. . . it was all about Michael.

I am not gonna complain about Madonna's speech because I think it was a very respectful and very real speech about Michael.

The View mentioned this too, they said she could have started the speech out differently, start it out that when he was 10 he was in the spotlight and her mother died. But more than likely, MTV scripted that part.

Watched Madonna's speech.
Watched Janet's tribute.
Watched the trailer.

I can hardly breathe and my hands are shaking.

This was going to be the greatest show on Earth. Michael was ready to come back and he was bringing it. Which makes everything a hundred times more painful. Since the day he passed I kept thinking that I didn't need anything from him, no new music or performances or public apperances. I'd be happy to give it all up if only he was alive and well. If only. I was mourning over Michael the man all this time. But after watching the trailer it just hit me. We also lost Michael the entertainer. No one will EVER be able to do the things he did onstage. Michael is gone and I think I'm done with the world of modern music.

The only comfort is that he looked happy in his final days, enjoying himself and ready to rock.

you can see Janet was crying here

God, Madonna can't be sincere about anything as far as the media is concerned. She can't write a speech from the heart or adopt a child without it being some cold calculating move.

Madonna said that MJ's lack of childhood trumps her mothers own death! How can you say she was being self indulgent???

The part that hit me hard about Madonna's speech was when she compared Michael at 6 years old dancing and singing and her at 6 years old when she lost her mother, and feeling that he got the short end of the stick. Very moving and deep.

I have mixed emotions. When I saw the tribute I thought this is the best so far and I really loved it I was happy about it, but… When I saw the trailer I felt very depressed, I can’t stop thinking about Michael. ‘This Is It’ was going to be very impressive and he died before we all had the chance to share it with him. I think he was going to renew all of his performances such as Thriller with new customs and zombies, Smooth Criminal, backgrounds, etc… everything would’ve looked very new! ‘This Is It’ was going to be huge and I really feel for the fans who got tickets, it’s really sad. I am watching the trailer repeatedly! He looks amazing! We will really REALLY miss him! :(

Madonna when she said “We have abandoned him” I really felt she was talking about MTV and of course generally the MEDIA! Her speech was touching and she made sure to say ‘KING’ more than once.

Although it was short but, I think MTV’s tribute to Michael is the best tribute I have seen so far, I hope Jermaine is taking notes for his upcoming tribute in London.

Oh god seeing the trailer made me cry.

I thought Madonna's speech was great. Michael was human just like everyone else. :)

I thought the tribute was great as well, but I really wanted more. The dancers were just amazing. I noticed Janet looked distraught after doing the Scream performance. I don't know how she did it. :(

The rest of the show was meh. I did like some of the performances.

Exactly. Madonna spoke from her heart. Any person who says she was being self indulgent is a complete idiot. The media is horrible now a days...I think their motto is "LETS MAKE A GOOD THING INTO A BAD THING SO WE GET ATTENTION".

Seeing Janet perform next to MJs video in Scream made me bawl.... it really was just that much more realization that he's gone......

To be honest I didn't see any celebration to Michael except for the tribute at the beginning.
I loved Madonna's speech, eventhough I'm not a fan of her I'm thankful for humanizing Michael, it was very sweet and touching.
Just one thing I disagree with her: HE'S STILL THE :king: no matter if he left this world.
I can't wait to see the whole movie, just for being the rehearsal it looked spectacular, Michael incredibly GORGEOUS OH BOY :girl_in_love:
IT'S NOT FAIR DAMN IT GRRRRRRRRRR
