Official MTV Video Awards Thread [Janet Jackson, Trailer, Spoliers Here]

Janet was fantastisc!! so was Madonnas speech...
...i still have a headache from all the crying

I won't 'chill out' or 'relax' - if I did so, how would anything ever change? What you said was wrong and extremely hurtful to a lot of fans, not to mention utterly bigoted.

I don't care what sexes were screaming and when! We're talking about a man, Michael Jackson, who completely unapologetically broke down all gender specifications just by expressing his character through his looks and body language. I hate the word androgynous, because I don't think that that's what he was, and he definitely wasn't asexual either. He simply just proved that straight and gay and all that shit has no relevance and no importance as long as you express yourself, as long as your message was positive, and as long as people love you. And when Madonna made that comment tonight, she knew exactly what message she was conveying - and I'm sure Michael was giggling from his cloud.

bravo! outstanding post!!

I like the trailer.. oh god, i was crying while watching it...
I don't think these 2 hours movie will be enough .. they said they have over 100 hours recorded ... I WANT THEM ALL !!!

Haha, I feel the SAME way! I don't care if it's not all edited pretty and put together nice. I'll happily take some raw MJ. ;) I just want any and every little piece of him I can get. =/

That was so disappointing. I hadn't watched that show in years but did so because of Michael. Unfortunately, Kanye overshadowed it. I respect Kanye West's accomplishments as an artist but his thuggish idiotic behaviour has knocked the tribute to Michael aspect (Madonna's speech and Janet's compotent performance) and the This Is It trailer out of the spotlight which they rightly deserve.

ain't that right. he should be apologizing to MJJ fans as well. what an a**hole Kanye is. god! unbelievable.

btw, this forum shut down on me since midnight last night lol!! servers couldn't take the traffic I guess!

This man was so gifted in many ways, it's a damn shame that we lost him, he was sent from above, an innocent angel, with a pure mind and a innocent heart. May the higher source if it exists bless him.

my review

Tribute:

The tribute was excellent. The dancers did a wonderful job. I believe that these dancers were the best that Michael has ever had. They were so incredibly sharp and each move was emphasized. I was BLOWN AWAY. I was really in awe when they did the smooth criminal lean. I felt so proud because I know that Michael patented that dance move!

I am so proud of Janet for performing the way she did after her indescribable loss. She re recorded her vocals for the performance and her raspy tone sounded awesome. It sounded like she is pissed off the way her brother is being treated in the media, justifiably so.

However, I do feel that her performance was hyped more than it should have been. I'm not sure if it's been discussed her but Janet messed up during the final dance scene with her and Michael. It seems that she lost her balance when she dropped down to her knees and and then she missed the turn because she was off balance. I think Janet is a true performer though because she fell back in line like nothing went wrong!

Overall, the tribute was excellent! I am very sad that the dancers won't perform with Michael on stage, they were incredible.

I think Janet and The Dancers did a great job. I know the timing had to be right, she pulled it off.I know people wanted her to do one of Michael's songs but she chosed Scream. I did suggest that They have a split that Michael be on the screne and Janet dances down below. That was great and I hope she continues to keep that eternal flame going on Michael's behalf. As far as Madge. She told the truth.people did turn their back on him. The Media treated him like trash harshly and His friends who were his friends left him to enablers and Now He's gone. It was sad to hear in her own words what she felt.I'm happy she told the world about her trying to get to know Michael better.I know what she really wanted( A True Leo) but she was willing to take it easy with him. It's too bad they didn't stay in touch as friends. He needed true friends.People who really look at him as a humanbeing and not the Superstar. People who would stick by him and protect him against people who wanted to take advantage of his good nature.. Wow just remembering what she said makes me cry.eventhough I do support him by buying his records and looking at his videos and guest appearances I felt I could have done more but I'm just a fan.If I was in the bizz,I would have met him somwwhere down the line and I wouldn't have taken advantage of him.I would have respected him and his genius and we would have became good friends. There's so much to say about Madge's tribute and I wish she would keep those memories fresh to tell whoever wants to listen. And Kanye's carrer will be over if he continues to rant and proclaim himself the King Of Pop.I know he's still greiving for his mom but if his mother was alive ,she would have slapped him. I also feel Pink did a great job with her segment. I didn't know she was so acrobatic. Taylors's segment was a nice tribute. She was on a Train. In a Train Station,Ala Bad And The Wiz. JAY-Z showed the Martkee at The Apollo showing Michael Jackson. I do have a true statement though.I feel that the VMAs should have shown snippets of Michael's videos throughout the show and Show the last Interview he did on MTV. And The Security should not let Kanye and the girl that was on stage with Jay-Z and Alicia Keys. That was dangerous and who know what would have happen.

I have watched the VMA show till after Beyonce (she was good i love her) then i went to bed.
But wauw the speech from Madonna brought me to tears and i am not a madonna fan but i love her for doing this!
And Janet SHE ROCKS!!!! my god, she looked good en danced :wild:. It was strange to see them dancing together.....but it looked super!!!
The trailer i have watched it over and over again.....I love it!
I can`t wait to got to the theater to watch Michael on a big screen!:clapping:

god, I love Mikey's .gif in your .sig.. sigh

yeah she did but I think the emotion coming off of her was so palpable no one really noticed
What I loved about her performance in particular was the details.
1. All the dancers behind her are choreographers.
Some of the best pop/hip-hop choreographers working today and they all got together to honor MJ.. that was the dance community giving him his props for all he's contributed to the art form and they represented him correct.
They were fierce. All of their expressions, they were giving it their all for MJ

2. Love the outfits. All the jackets that each dancer had on looked like a silhouette Michael has worn before.

3. The black masks over their faces. I loved that. That was Michael whether you liked it or not...

4. The black shoes and white socks.
5. The way the peformance ended with that moment in scream when Janet hugs Michael and its just the two of them, then they cut Janet out so it looked it Michael was looking down on her....
that was brillant and emotional.

As for the trailer... I have so many mixed emotions.. sadness, anger, elation
but mostly pride.
I'm proud of MJ, what he was creating was going to be spectacular
I'm proud that I am a fan of this man.
I'm proud that I got it before he died unlike so many that are just now seeing or rembering how amazing he is.
That I hopped on MJ bus long ago and never got off.

Madonna made me cry. That was such a beautiful speech. I loved how she shared moments and had the guts to admit that she and others 'abandoned' him.

Janet was amazing. She looked mad at the end of her performance but she had every right to be.

Kanye basically embarrassed himself and i do not think it was staged.

What Beyonce' did afterwards was just such a classy thing for her to do. It was beautiful and so nice. MJ loved Beyonce' and i can Tell why!

My GOSH, I can't wait to see This is It. It looked Amazing. It's just so sad that He was working so hard and had given his all and then boom......gone.

As for Michael..he was one hell of an entertainer who was not afraid to shake his booty on stage and grab his crotch okay. He was confident enough to do that. He did things different, yeah sure..and so did Elvis..but THAT'S what makes them Kings. Michael was so fresh and always put on a show. Such a creative man! He had charisma, class, elegance, charm, sexyness, humor, shyness, he had EVERYTHING!
Madonna only said his Name and the crowd started screaming.
Michael was the BEST.

What can I say! I've yet to watch the whole show, but I've seen the trailer and oh my, I cried my eyes out! How amazing were those shows going to be! Michael looked amazing too!

Just saw the Trailer on Youtube.. I feel depressed.. I ''thought'' the show was gonna be amazing.. But I never realised Michael put so much work into it.. I never imagined it would have been as big as it seemed.. I feel devestated that I had low expectations, that I didnt think he would pull off such an amazing exit.. I feel so depressed hearing his voice. I dont know what to say.... I feel numb.. And I feel even more shitty now that Michael never got to give back to the world, show them what he is made of... It feels like he is still alive.. I wonder what Michael is thinking and feeling, if his spirit is still somewhere around us, I hope he is not sad that he never got to show us his work. Im sad that Michael never got to experience his fans stadium presence ever again... Its not what WE missed out on.. Its what Michael missed out on, he never got to say goodbye to us, he never got to perform one last time, he never got to thank us, and look down below his big audience.

Oh God...and that just broke my heart all over again.

yep..... this is it will leave us... empty... right after the movie is over... cause this was supposed to be an incredible show, to say the least, however, thank god we have footage to proove that he was doing well, he was dancing and singing and in a good mood, total opposite of what the media was trying to portrait.. .as usual...

but... again... we will all feel empty afterwards, i am already looking forward to get the dvd...

Thank God the message board is back up! It super sucked last night when it wouldn't load after the VMA's...I was sooo anxious to talk about the trailer with everyone!

I was amazed. I knew I would be...but...wow. It had me in tears I can't imagine what the whole movie will be like. It was going to be the most earth shattering performance... which is so exciting but makes it hurts SO much. It breaks my heart into pieces over the fact that he didn't get to finish it. :boohoo: I'm grateful that we are able to see the rehearsals though...it would be even worse for Michael to have put forth all that effort - for his fans, and then not have his fans catch any kind of glimpse of it.

I just hope the cinemas can't cope with the demand that they have no choice but to run it longer than 2 weeks!

I hope too.. only two week is not possible for all the fans!!! it's strange and it seems a commercial choice i'm sure they will change!!!

I am also nervous as to how everyone will feel, including myself...after the movie is over. It will be so final then..... I just don't know how everyone will cope.

I know it's been said a million times, but Janet was amazing. She really did him proud and did him justice - perhaps the only person who could. Re. what people were saying about her getting the last bit of the dance wrong, I honestly don't think many people would notice it unless they're MJ fans (I didnt spot it 1st time around).
I felt proud for her - she absolutely rocked.

Personally i think people are exeggerating it a bit. She danced and that was it. I'm proud of her that she was able to , but let's not go over the top with what she did. I expected her to sing, not lipsynch and use autotune as well...in my book that's just not nice, but thats just my opinion.

Omigosh, glad to be back. The boards went down after "12 minutes to the trailer!" and never came back up. =( Okay, so, wow. Where to start?
*Madonna and Janet - Brava, chicas, brava. The night started off all class, but flew downhill at lightning speed. =/
*Kanye - Shame on you. WHO does that?! I don't care if the Jonas Brothers won an award over MJ! (Okay, well, I'd definitely *care*, but...you know.), you just *don't* do that. And his "apology" was laughable. That's not being "real" or "honest", that's being beyond rude! He apologized, but in the same breath defended what he did and said it all over again! It would have been better if he'd just kept his mouth shut.
*Beyonce - The only one who did anything MJ-worthy at all and the only respect paid to Michael the whole night (after Janet, of course) - by acknowledging that what happened was wrong and handing her spotlight over to Taylor - Keeping MJ's message alive.
*And the trailer, dear Goddd, the trailer. I was weeping like a baby, mascara all down my face. I had to watch it again 'cause I couldn't take it all in the first time. I've seen it like ten times now and I just can't believe it. He was really putting it all back together, picking up the pieces after 2005 and embarking on an amazing new leg of his journey. It's just too much to comprehend, man.

After seeing the trash and total lack of respect for music that the VMAs exhibited *contrasted* with the trailer and Michael's class, dignity, professionalism, talent, magic, and true respect and love for his art just made me miss him more than I had in a looong time - a deep, profound sadness over what we lost personally and artistically.

Also, I HATE that it turned into The Kanye West Show. No one is talking about the tribute or the trailer, only about his punk ass. Will good news ever be back in fashion?

I know most of you want to know how I felt about last nights Tribute... The show itself was a self indulgent mess. Michael pretty much "made" MTV. Then they crucified him: then only after he was dead, did they try and resurrect him. The ...only thing I understood was the look on Janet's face when she was finished performing. Where was everyones heart when they were ripping out his???

I think you might wanna watch it again. Because i heard a different voice then you did.

Respect to Karen.

The show was a hot mess...The Mike tribute was on point Madonna was on point with her speech and the trailer at the end...

EPIC of EPIC proportions lol!!! I don't think there are words to describe how magnificent the concerts were going to be...

...in the next life then *sigh*

It's so funny you say that - because the harmonies, the groove, how she's singing so reminds me of MJs Off the Wall.

I guess the comparisons are inevitable - but Janet definitely got herself a dance club hit with "Make me."
