Official MTV Video Awards Thread [Janet Jackson, Trailer, Spoliers Here]

I just hope the cinemas can't cope with the demand that they have no choice but to run it longer than 2 weeks!

lol, i think seeing how the tralier looked...the cinemas are gonna have to run it longer then two weeks! lol

Just seen Janet's performance on the TMZ website, extremely emotional but incredibly energetic and the scene where Janet near perfectly mirrored Michael's moves with him on screen behind her ... fantastic and haunting at the same time.

I've also seen the trailer for the This Is It movie this morning and some of the scenes blow away the theories and reports that Michael wasn't fit enough to do those gigs.

He looked in the best shape of his life.

Really??? Better than in the 80's? I'm sorry but he wasn't. He was ok but not in his BEST shape. I feel he was being careful at the rehearsals. I don't know how he would do at the actual concerts but probably not as energetic as when he was in his 20s for example. But that's understandable.

Hey all, good morning! So basically, Madonna built it up and Janet tore it down in a classy, emotional display of honor, memoriam and love for her brother. It couldn't have been any better than how it was done, (maybe a little longer :p but I understand why it was kept short and sweet) 2 thumbs up to Janet and all of those amazing dancers who worked their asses off to give Mike the kind of tribute he actually deserves :D

On another note, F YOU TOO KANYE!! And if it was 'staged' by MTV, then wow damn...didn't think they could get any lower than they already did. Who gives a f**k if Taylor Swift IS country. MTV is for teens and where I live Taylor is about the biggest thing going right now for most teenagers so, SUCK IT UP MTV. And Kanye, seriously, you want to be called the 'King of Pop' now and you pull shit like that?! Michael woulda slapped a bitch last night, and that bitch woulda been you foo'! LOL

I REALLY hope that I can pre-order a ticket
If there is a huge demand, maybe they'll show it on extra screens? I mean, everyone is out to make money so I bet they would try to accomodate if there was an overwhelming amt of ppl who want tickets

Amazing how a show dedicated to Michael turns into the Kanye West show. Asshole.

You know what I meant.

I meant in the context that he was supposed to be some walking skeleton who was malnourished and lacking fitness.

Of course a 50 year old man isn't going to be in the same physical condition as he was in his prime, ie: 20's and 30's.

It was more a turn of phrase, "The best shape of his life", which is often used when (for example) sports stars who've been laid off with long term injuries and have been written off by everyone, come back and look as near to how they were before the injury.

Kanye... tsk tsk tsk. Taylor Swift is only what, 18, 19 years old and this is her first award? How could he?

How dreadful. Blah.

Now Madonna made me cry. It was fitting for her to do that speech. Janet killed it - she made me proud. She's only Jackson that could have pulled off a major tribute like that. Well done, Janet.

I wasn't watching after Janet's performance, but I was on Yahoo with Shannon when that happened, she told me, we just couldn't believe it.
WTF?!? Outrageous. The mean part of the show business.

Yeah, it was fitting for her to do that speech, it was SO GOOD, made me cry, too.

Felt so sad and empty to see Janet on stage dancing alone, without Michael...
And when she looked up and when I saw her face in the end, omg, it expressed sadness, pain, anger... I admire her for being able to perform.

i think he was skinny :/ :)
I also thought "He hasn't looked this skinny since back in the 70s."
But man, the way he was moving and glowing in that footage, Mike didn't look weak nor like he was dragged up the stage - at all!

The show was not dedicated to Michael, i don't believe it. The host said it..but it was probably misunderstood by him. The tribute was right at the start and that was that. Hardly any other artists mentioned him after that.
Which was kind of downer in my book.

I also have to say there was something off about a performance...Jay-Z and Alicia Keys. It was nice...but when Alicia stepped away from the piano , you could still hear the piano sounds.......come on now. They just playing a cd then and only Jay-Z really rapping?

Thank you Madonna for everything! Amazing performance by Janet..it must have been very emotional for her to do this.

Also I am pretty confident that the whole Kanye thing was staged.

I cant stop watching the trailer over and over. I'm an emotional wreck right now, it hurts so much. 'It cuts like a knife', this right now is one of those moments when it really hits you hard, real hard. I still am in this state of denial, and seeing Michael up there performing looking in better shape than ever, better than the MSG concerts...it just tores me up. He was smiling, being the usual prankster like he is. I seriously believe that he was enjoying every second of it.

I'm just so angry, frustrated and sad right now. I don't know what to think. On one hand I somehow still feel like I am going to the fucking concert and that those snippets are just some leaked rehearsel footage. I wish that someone could slap me in the face, so I could come back to reality.

''Thats why I write these kind of songs. It gives some sense of awareness and awakening and hope to people.''

This is just so cruel...

I think so too. They always have to have something happen don't they.

I'm not about to get into an argument here, but please yall stop. Enough. Michael was NOT about overtly-political or sexual agendas, no matter how much people want to try to make him out to be now that he's gone.

Michael was an artist. In fact the BEST musical artist of all-time. He was not out there promoting homosexuality, politics, etc. Yes he had a look, but that look had nothing to do with sex. It had to do with innocence. Childlike innocence.

So please...can we all knock it off with all the back and forth about gay this and gay that?

Thanks.

wow you so don't get it.

first of all, there's no such thing as a homosexual agenda. we're not talking about neo-nazis. homosexuality has nothing to do with politics either, so please don't list the two together. politics are view and choices. homosexuality is as much of a choice as race.

I never claimed that michael was 'promoting' homosexuality. if anything, he was promoting a person's right to be himself, to PROMOTE his INDIVIDUALITY. by wearing what he did - which may initially have been an expression of his childlike character - he broke down a lot of gender-oriented barriers, which had a lot to do homosexuality and certainly the homophobia that was devouring the world.

michael confused the world with his grace and his style and what not, and by doing so in a time of ronald reagan and hate crimes, he DID show people that your sex (or who you had sex with) had nothing to do with anything, as long as your message was positive. he was the biggest star on the planet. michael said that it didn't matter if you were black or white, but he might as well have said 'it doesn't matter if you straight or gay'. his message is the same and it stands strong.

Guys can we stop with the gay hating..this is not what this thread is meant 2 be bout!

Yeah that would be nice. I'm just so appalled to see members of these forums making homophobic remarks. Michael would be so ashamed.

I really liked Madonnas speech!!!!!!!!

And I so loved Janets performance!!!!!!

Thanks to both of them soooo much!!!

Yes. Indeed. Unless you are a homophobic bigot. Watch Michael's ...you were never meant to see. He specifically says he has lots of gay fans and accepts them all.

I don't remember that quote, that's amazing! Do you know at what point in the documentary he says this?

Yes, Janet and Madonna booth brought me to tears. Madonna more so...Janet was just awsome. But yes, Mike was human, something the media never wanted to portray.

As for the Kanye West thing....um, if it was staged, West really was brave and took a chance at doing something that could potentially harm his career.. in other words, why would he do that...secondly, Taylor is an amazing actress lol. Nice to see Beyonce show her class and come to the rescue.

Glade they dedicated the show in Michael...sorry some people decided to reck it.

Now I wonder if all the people so intent on slagging Madonna off for doing an introduction still have something to say now...

I know.

I've watched Madonna's speech four times now and I can honestly say, I've never been so proud of being a Madonna fan. While Madonna's never meant as much to me as Michael - I've never felt I had a personal bond with Madonna - I've always been a huge admirer of hers.

She's always said the things that no one wanted to hear and no one else dared to say, and even though her charity work should already have the world praising her, today I feel she really deserves to know how much we appreciate her, both as a courageous individual with a powerful voice and views, but indeed also as an fantastic entertainer, whose excellence and talent should be acknowledged by the world.

Last night, I think Madonna was hurting for Michael but certainly for herself as well... because what do you do when you've accomplished it all, and people are still out to get you?

Wow. this is a vma thread and we are arguing... Big shocker there.

anyway... Back on topic.

Janet's tribute was.... there aren't enough words to describe how wonderful it was. She and Only she is the one to do a proper tribute to Michael. Her choice in song... Well that had to be one of the best picks. In short she was telling the world to fu(k off and leave him alone. The tone of her voice said it all.

Second as far as the Kanya West thing. No i don't think it was staged because as we all know Kanya has to take the spotlight from someone else and direct it onto him at any given moment. Taylor was hurt you could see it. I Think Beyonce was the biggest person that night and she took the spotlight off herself and put it BACK on Taylor where it should have been in the first place for her award.

Now. I think in this thread all your bitching about gay and what Michael wore... Come on people lets all grow up shall we. Michael has said himself he is not gay so why don't we try to accept that hmm? You are all judging him for what he is wearing which is dumb to say the least. But we just got something so special here and you need to enjoy it instead of pick it apart and judge him.

On Another note. It is 8:35 am here i am not used to getting up this early i have been crying all night long so forgive my bitchy attitude. I'm sure I'm not the only one here with it.

Thanks, that's what I meant to say lol. You stated it exactly.

I agree with this!!
The right to be himself or herself, whether that be any gender, race, sexual orientation. It's about freedom and equality :)

That's what Michael stood for :)

That's not what's being said :)
We're not saying he is gay at all! I know he isn't.

Just saying he stood for freedom and equality, to be loved by everyone no matter their race, gender, sexual orientation - as Madonna alluded to in her speech :)

Just saw the Trailer on Youtube.. I feel depressed.. I ''thought'' the show was gonna be amazing.. But I never realised Michael put so much work into it.. I never imagined it would have been as big as it seemed.. I feel devestated that I had low expectations, that I didnt think he would pull off such an amazing exit.. I feel so depressed hearing his voice. I dont know what to say.... I feel numb.. And I feel even more shitty now that Michael never got to give back to the world, show them what he is made of... It feels like he is still alive.. I wonder what Michael is thinking and feeling, if his spirit is still somewhere around us, I hope he is not sad that he never got to show us his work. Im sad that Michael never got to experience his fans stadium presence ever again... Its not what WE missed out on.. Its what Michael missed out on, he never got to say goodbye to us, he never got to perform one last time, he never got to thank us, and look down below his big audience.

Never got to show us his work? Next to James Brown he was the hardest working man in show Biz in one way or another. He showed us his work. He showed us what he can do. This was just icing on the cake.

Lol As for you having low expectations. Well he proved you wrong. I kept telling everyone to have faith in Michael,to believe that he could do it. And by the looks of it he could. I'd love for someone now to tell me he wasn't ready. that man was ready he would have blown us all away.

I was sooooooo looking forward to see what he comes up with today's technology...I love the backgrounds and all. We ain't seen nothing yet! :(
It was all too good to be true.

Watched the tribute and trailer when I woke up this morning, amazing!! I HAVE TO GO SEE THIS IS IT!

I was getting chills throughout the whole trailer. Then the mood changed to Man In The Mirror and im surprised I kept my composure
