Well, I'm not a Beyonce fan, but everyone picks up ideas from others. MJ also has some moves that James Brown did before him.
 
Since everyone's throwing in their critique of the performance. The only thing I'd change from the performance would have been to replace the Smooth Criminal performance with a Black or White/Dangerous performance. That way the videos would have sequentially went through each album ending with Janet's Scream performance.


Still it was an amazing tribute, probably the last best tribute you're going to see out of MTV or any TV award performance.

I have been huge a fan of Michael Jackson and Madonna for a decade now and to see one compliment the other warms my heart with joy. :)
 
I wasn't impressed with the dancers, but Janet was cool and Madonna gave a truly great speech. Overall it was a worthy tribute.
 
Just saw it...... yepp, Madonna said it like no one. She had me crying for the millionth time since June 25th......
Thank you, Madonna, for speaking the truth! For that, I respect you.

I enjoyed the dancers, I don't know why people feel so disappointed.... I mean, sure, NO ONE can EVER match Michael's performances and genius, but they danced well and, as far as I could see, put their hearts in it. Not to mention their synchronization with the background footage was almost perfect.

As for Janet....words aren't enough. I won't comment on her as a dancer, but I'll comment on her as a deliverer of emotions - bravo, Janet! Thank you for putting it all out there, you were wonderful!
And the ending brought me to tears once again.....the pain on her face was powerful enough to surrender an army.
In a way, I got the impression that other then pain, I could see hatred in her eyes......hatred for those who abandoned Michael, just like Madonna said...

Yeah....This is it alright....

i was just seeing CNN and they announce the Michael Jackson tribute(yet no footage of him or janet or madonna was shown), but guess who got all the atention, yes, your right, Kanye, Taylor and above all the great gesture Beyonce did by letting switf speakig, they dont even show Madonna or janet just these three guys, aint it amazing???

Kanye is such an arrogant ASS as he manged to take the attention away from Michael! (By the way by heart goes out to Taylor)

But I have to say, Ive seen better on So You Think You Can Dance in regards to the choreography! I wasn't that impressed.

What surprised me was what I had underrated, I thought Madonna was just going to introduce Janet but what she did, wow, highlight of the night!

You know, I felt the same but then I started to think about it.
Those are backup dancers, they're not meant to be the ones "taking attention".
If you look back at Lavelle Smith and all those previous background dancers Michael had, they were not really "on point" neither - However, the old dancers had more integrity and personality than those young mofos dancing yesterday :D
I think Michael's old dancers were more of choreographers, especially Lavelle.

Hehe with that said, SYTYCD has world class choreographers.
Absolutely top of the line - It isn't like "Little Bobo's Dance Class"

People that don't watch SYTYCD when they are in the final stages are really missing out on some magic.
 
Ahhhh....what a world... long live kanye, taylor swift and beyonce!!!!! oh there was a tribute to some michael something i've heard
 
Talking to a friend on MSN now, he's just now watching the This is it trailer and he goes 'maaaaaan...that would have been an incredible show, greatest show on earth man, look at the part with the jungle in the background' ..

And he's right....Michael had planned SO incredibly much for this show. Who cares if he was gonna lipsynch , with all this next to it. This just shows how incredibly unfair life really can be...this SUCKS!

Trailer was amazing.

Kanye is an idiot and a total attention seeker! He just had to steal the show with his silly antics :smilerolleyes:. This is most likely the last time the VMA's will pay tribute to MJ but noo, Kanye just had to make sure he made the headlines. I pray that he's banned from all future award shows, at least until he can stop this. Honestly, I am sick of his attention seeking ways.
 
I can't wait to see how he was going to introduce "smooth criminal" it looks like he made a black and white movie intro to it for the tour.

what are you saying??? he was singing live in the clips shown in the trailer, is your friend a little deaf, i mean your frien needs to stop saying he was going to lip sync, he wasnt
 
Dralion,n i think what bullterrier's friend meant was, with all the rumors going round that mj supposedly "lip syncing" .. it didnt matter if he did or didnt. It was still gonna be a great show nonetheless

I know it didnt matter, but he was not lip syncing in the trailer!!!, he was really talented, so why will they have to say he was if he wasn't, u know, im pretty tired of this whole difamation, just tired, he was singing LIVE, no need to keep on saying lies, just stop it now, sorry im terribly sensitive today

EXACTLY what i meant, exactly. There has been lots of talks about lipsynching, during HIStory tour , most of it was lipsynched. It's to be
expected that he definitely was gonna lipsynch some songs, let's be realistic here. And it would be no incredibly big deal with a show like this.

do u know that during the History tour he had laryngitis most of the tour??? have you, he didnt have it now, and it only takes one hearing and look at the trailer to realize he was live singing, anyway, i've got to go, bye everybody, LONG LIVE THE KING

Also...Michael was Jehova Witness, right? I'm not trying to be
anti-gay here, cause i really am not. But aren't Jehova's against that?
 
The trailer looks amazing. It was shaping up to be one helluva show & Mike was gonna blow the world away once again. Madonna's speech was stirring and heartfelt...I was tearing up. And Janet...girl done Mike proud! Took a lot of courage to go up there and perform like that.

As for the whole Kanye West incident, something's bugging me about it. It feels to me that it may have been deliberately staged by MTV, specifically to take the attention away from Michael tonight. Cause you know what b******s MTV are. If that's indeed the case, then a big FU to them. I haven't watched MTV in about a decade, don't ever plan to, and have no regrets about it.

I heard about this....but....

He also did lipsynch in several songs during the Dangerous tour.
During Superbowl Heal The world performance...and more.
I'm a ridiculously big fan of him, all my life and will always be...
but i would be in denial if i'm gonna say i was expecting him
to sing all of TII live.

I can't say that didn't cross my mind.
 
Just seen Janet's performance on the TMZ website, extremely emotional but incredibly energetic and the scene where Janet near perfectly mirrored Michael's moves with him on screen behind her ... fantastic and haunting at the same time.

I've also seen the trailer for the This Is It movie this morning and some of the scenes blow away the theories and reports that Michael wasn't fit enough to do those gigs.

He looked in the best shape of his life.
