Michael - The Great Album Debate

Sorry for being off topic, but I want to show something to T.N.A.

We have a shelter for sick (baby)seals here in The Netherlands (Run by Lenie 't Hart), and when they are healthy again, they release them again.

This commercial is played for 6 yrs here and when we hear 'It's a beautiful day', we immediately think of that commercial (well, I do).

Queen's manager gave them the right to the song and now they got a new clip and used 'Love of my life'.

Here's what the Doobie Brothers fans wrote concerning Michael Jackson singing on the song's:

If MJ did sing on some Doobies stuff...then he's buried in the mixes. The Doobs, Ted Templeman and Donn Landee had more class and sense than to do that with a guest appearance by someone. If any of this did happen, it would've been made knowledge before now, I'm sure. The Doobies were a high profile band in the 1970's and early 1980's. This wouldn't have been a secret.

I've plenty of live Doobies stuff..and live versions of those songs by the same lineups that cut the studio versions...and the harmonies sound the same basically. There's a higher part on the chorus of What A Fool Believes that is sung by Rosemary Butler. Check out the live performance of the song from the No Nukes film. You can clearly hear what she brought to the studio version and that particular live version.

Maria Muldaur and Nicolette Larson made guest appearances on Takin' It To The Streets and Minute By Minute respectively. And they're not buried in the mixes. Nicolette can clearly be heard doubling with Patrick Simmons on the chorus of Sweet Feelin' on Minute By Minute.

It's very possible. Michael Jackson sings back up for Kenny Loggins on Who's Right, Who's Wrong? on the Keep The Fire album, around the same time Kenny Loggins wrote and co-wrote many songs for Michael Mcdonald.

I have seen some comments about Michael making up that he sang these songs, but has anyone else thought about the fact that he networked with many fellow heavy-hitters prior to and following the release of "Off the Wall"? Steve and Jeff Porcaro of Toto co-produced and performed on many of his titles, as well as David Paich on "We are the World". Toto also collaborated very closely with Michael McDonald, so having worked with the Doobies wouldn't exactly be a stretch.

i think MJ is referring to this concert where he mentions one time singing back up! his recollection could have been very hazy.

Michael Jackson did sing back up with Michael McDonald on a Donna Summer record.

and with Kenny Loggins [also pictured in article] for the same Donna Summer record and one of Kenny's own albums.

I was nosing around Michael McDonald's forum on michaelmcdonald.com, which is moderated by the guy who plays guitar in his band. Someone asked about this and the question was passed on to Michael, who said that MJ definitely did not sing backup on any Doobie Bros. songs...I think that kind of settles it!

Michael McDonald said that Michael Jackson was tricking Elizabeth Taylor!

It's more than just collab. Mike is singing along. ;-)

People think that their first duet was Scream, but they forgot this one. It was before Janet's "Control" ;)

Here's the album on which you can find this song:

Ooooh, nothing beats it when Michael pops in in the song "Wait" towards the end. Absolutely brilliant!

Yeah, know about this. It's nice, although too little MJ :( I always want more MJ when it comes to collabs...

What about this... Do you think MJ is sampled here?

EXCUSE THE HORRIBLE QUALITY... If you hear this in HQ Mp3, you can hear it much clearer. I'm talking about the "brrrrrrah!"

I wouldn't be surprised if he is sampled in here....Jimmy Jam said this song was originally intended for the HIStory album...

(side note: the fifth paragraph is quite interesting in regards to how meticulous Michael was in the studio and how he recorded...)

'.....we'd spend a day just on the volume of the handclaps...'

@Pentum & Arklove,

I think I have a sixth sense.

I swear to God, when I first heard "Do The Bartman", despite the fact that it was not credited I felt MJ was behind. The music is so MJesque! Only years later I heard that MJ was involved in Do The Bartman.

Then, when for the first time I heard All I Do by Stevie Wonder, again, I immediately knew Michael was somewhere around. And indeed he was in the BG vocals!

And later, in the 90s, I was walking in the street on my way home and I switched the radio on on my walkman because the batteries were too weak for the cassette. So I stumbled across the 3T's "I Need You" in the middle of the song. It was the first time I heard it. As I stumbled across it in the middle of the song, I had no idea that it was 3T singing the song, but I said to myself "this song has MJ's vibes. At a certain moment I am sure I am going to hear his voice." And guess what, just like with the song "WAIT", his vocals indeed all of sudden appeared.

Not once, but at least three times in my life without no clue about the song credits I recognized MJ's indent before he even sang a note!

Oh I totally know what you mean! And that's what I mean when I say that these Cascio songs have no MJ feel to them...Sure, you can tell they're rip-offs, but there is a HUGE difference....Michael was special, he was unique...His magic touch was just that...MAGIC....it doesn't happen unless he's behind that mic...So, when we talk about the composition of the Cascio songs, the lyrics, and just the overall feel, I really do think it's important to consider...Obviously the vocals are paramount to debate...But Michael was an all-encompassing artist...You FEEL him....It's just the way he was, it was his natural talent...When you know that feeling, you never forget it...and when you don't have that feeling, you KNOW it...it's like, instant ...'something's wrong here'...
