Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Cascio Controversy Thread)
That's some SERIOUS love right there

Can't compete with the drawings. But here are the tickets. Unfortunately the Bad tour program got lost along the way.
Indeed man, I just fully understand you, TONY R, Arklove, Love is magical, etc.
But it is true that we are privileged to have seen him in person and during the 80s!
In those times singers actually sang! Do you remember Terence Trent d'Arby and "Sign your name" or Phil Collins "I wish it would rain down on me" or George Michael with his awesome album "Faith", those were the kicking times man!

Two of my fave albums mentioned there, TTD's Introducing The Hardline & George Michael's Faith.
We really had megastars then, Not to mention Madonna.
What the funk happened?

We must have been at some of the same gigs. Were you at Wembley on the Saturday for HIStory?
Here's my Bad programme... what a beauty...
Oh TTD... just incredible. Even his new stuff is incredible. George Michael is an absolute hero. Saw him perform the first ever show at the new Wembley Stadium. Absolutely incredible artist. Also saw him come on stage at the O2 to duet with Beyonce.
What happened? People with suits took over the industry and, in Prince's words, sold "electro-magnetic pop... steady your teeth are gnashin'!"
That's why Michael's legacy needs to be preserved. He ain't Justin Bieber. He's Mozart.
Yes I was! I missed the train home & had to stay overnight. I queued for hours with my wife to get in & somehow still ended up 3/4 way back. Wasn't happy.
Yes the Bad program was brilliant. I'm gutted I lost mine. Everytime I go back to my parent's house I look for it, to no avail.
I've still for the 10 foot poster I ripped down on the way back from the Dangerous concert though. Then I won a radio competition when I got home & won a T shirt, Dangerous pin badge & Dangerous mask!
George is my 2nd favourite male artist. His Unplugged show is one of the greatest live shows of all time. Seeing him live on the Live 25 tour was a dream come true.
Didn't know about the Beyonce duet! I'll be YouTubing that one.
Speaking of which I think Beyonce is possibly the only really great act the 2000s has produced. I'm not a huge fan but whenever I catch her live I'm blown away.
Ace. All the T shirts were always too big for me.
Luckily I laid my hands on this beauty recently:
Oh Beyonce is incredible live. Really incredible. As is Alicia Keys. As is John Legend. The only person I haven't seen that I really want to see is Kanye West. He came on stage at a John Legend concert I went to a couple of years ago to rap on Number One. But I'd love to see him live.
Beyonce... her talent is just incredible. She needs to keep her clothes on (which, coming from me, is an amazing thing to say) and showcase her ability. Because talent-wise she is absolutely incredible. Unfortunately people don't take her ability seriously.
Madonna suffered the same as Beyonce in terms of credibiltiy and the publics problem with a woman seemingly being unable to be sexy, provocative as well as talented.
I was lucky enough to be a metre away from Aicia Keys during an exclusive gig she did a couple of years ago. Brilliant.
I guess there are a few really good artists still going but even then, they don't seem able to produce magical full albums like Mike did.
Listen to OTW -> HIStory, virtually every tracks is amazing. It was only when Invincible came out I realised he was infallible. But that's another story.
How can Dangerous at over 77 minutes long be so perfect. And not just the album, but the videos, the cover, even the booklet is a perfect aesthetic joy.
Who Is It
Give In To Me
Jam
Will You Be There
Perfection. AAAAAARRGGGHHH!!!!!
When you see on This Is It the ending of Thriller with some kicking bass from Threatened you realize how much Invincible was underrated and unexploited.

I've never been a huge Madonna fan. Saw her on her Blonde Ambition tour, got right to the front at Wembley Stadium. I think I became a man that day hahahaha.
Janet was great live, too.
My thoughts about the Invincible album are that he was in a position where he was desperate to extricate himself from his contract with Sony. And the results of that are clear on the CD. Michael Jackson was an artist. And for an artist to not write the majority of an album speaks volumes. I don't think he cared about the album. Not in the way he cared about the preceding albums. Long story, I won't go into it. But I don't think Michael Jackson really cared too much for the album.
Hi output from 1978-1995 was absolutely flawless. Some of the greatest songs ever recorded in the modern pop-age. From Shake Your Body to They Don't Care About Us. Just an incredible period of great, great music.
That was the worst part of his passing, knowing that there would never be anyone like him ever again. Someone who connects us to Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, James Brown, Jackie Wilson, Sammy Davis... he was literally anointed by the greatest performers in history. And now we have Justin Bieber.
THAT'S WHY the preservation of his legacy is PARAMOUNT.

wow, you saw him at roundhay park! must have been quiet the night, i wasn't born
Yes I did, both on Bad & Dangerous tour. Incredible. Still get thrills thinking about it.
aha i was born in 1993, but everytime i walk through the park i look where the stage was and think wow, i wasn't born at the right time
I still think about it every time I go to Roundhay!
All this nostalgia really excites me more than is good for me.
I've been listening to an MJ compilation CD (home made).
TDCAU
Another Part Of Me
Threatened
Give In To Me
P.Y.T.
2 Bad
Who Is It
Man In The Mirror
Earth Song
Smooth Criminal
Off The Wall
Dirty Diana
Jam
Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'
Will You Be There
And they're just the ones I can fit on the CD. It's perfect and it doesn't even include Billie Jean, Beat It, TWYMMF, Little Susie, Stranger In Moscow, Black Or White or Smile.
You could easily name 40 perfect 10/10 Michael Jackson tracks. I can't do that for anyone else.
And that's just the music. Add to that the stunning short films Smooth Criminal, Thriller, Jam (possibly my favourite after SC) etc.
ADD TO THAT the dancing, the live shows, the innovation. My God, what else do you need in a pop star.
Sometimes I think the reason I don't believe in God is because I have Michael Jackson.
But Michael Jackson always claimed he believed in God and that all he did actually was to collect what was up there already existing and made by God. Michael described himself as a channel and instrument of nature, not as a creator though.
Well, he was wrong. He wasn't a channel or an instrument. He may have been too modest to say it, but I'm not - he was a fucking genius.
I seriously think he was touched by grace and he knew it.
