Michael - The Great Album Debate

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Cascio Controversy Thread)

I've heard of that, but I have never found one. Aren't they incredibly expensive?

Not at all. When I bought mine it was the same price as the normal CD.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Cascio Controversy Thread)

Really!? Do you know where I can find one?

I bought it when it came out in the beginning of the 90s. Now, indeed, I haven't seen any around in any shop. Try E-Bay.

Huh, I've found one that ends in 2 days and is currently only £1! I'm going to keep an eye on that one, "Dangerous" is by far my favourite MJ album... Well, rivaling "Bad"...

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Cascio Controversy Thread)

By the way, has anyone of you bought this special cover edition of Dangerous album in 3-D (not digital 3-D, but physical)?

The one you see in the box is not mine. I found it on internet. I suppose that the owner put it in the box to preserve it as there is MJ's autograph on it.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Cascio Controversy Thread)

Again, what a beautiful beautiful album!!!

I love Dangerous till eternity.

I remeber it before it came out in the shops.

All the big radio stations got the album beforehand.

I called my local radio station and asked them to play one song from the album.

It was JAM! I was mesmerized! Can you imagine after listening a zillion times BAD album and owning it 7-8 timesn hearing a brand new song such as JAM. Compeltely new sound, new style, with some rap. Heavy D was famous back then. It was blasting! I recorded the song on the tape.
They even played Why You Wanna Trip On Me! And I hadn't still possessed the album! I was soooooo eager to possess it!

Back then there was no internet and leaks that you could listen to. YOu actually had to phone your radio station :D

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Cascio Controversy Thread)

It's moments like that where I wish I was born in the 80s, to rely on things other than the internet, and to listen to the radio to hear new songs. The closest thing I've had to that was, well... The new album's releases. Unfortunately, I don't think any new releases can top the wow factor of listening to a song like "Jam" for the first time, especially in this day and age with leaks and information beforehand.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Cascio Controversy Thread)

I was only 9 when Dangerous was released. I do remember the Black or White premiere....I remember HIStory's release vividly, though. I remember hearing and seeing the Scream video for the first time when it was premiered. I was blown away. HIStory has a special place in my heart  Although, Bad is my favourite album :)

The good old days... i'm quite nostalgic today...

I remember when my local TV station obtained the right to broadcast the Bucharest concert. They ran non-stop TV ad for weeks. Basically, when I turned on the TV, I saw Michael. It was an event.

After seeing Black or White and the Bucharest concert, I know I have to own Dangerous.

When you know that during the 80s you could hear rappers such as RUN DMC, LL COOL J (check the song "I'm bad" - good one! ), Tone Loc, etc.

Parallelly you could hear heavy metal and hard rock bands such as Van Halen, Poison, Alice Cooper, Guns 'n' Roses, Metallica, etc

And all of sudden you hear Michael (who always had refused rap) having some rap music on his song!!!!!! And then, you hear Why You Wanna Trip On Me with this electric guitar effect!!!! It was WOW effect for sure! Michael was the only artist who made those mixed styles, you could hear fresh new Michael. You immediately knew it was him, but different, new, special, magical!

The KLF band at that time tried to mix styles, but for some reason it didn't last long evebn though they had some pretty good stuff actually.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Cascio Controversy Thread)

I remember seeing the Bucharest concert broadcasted, too. My parents always made sure I was exposed to Michael as much as possible. My mom was the biggest fan, and then it was me. My dad would always bug me, still to this day. Anytime I'd mention Michael, he'd be like 'HEEE HEEE!!!' in this extremely high-pitched voice. He always made sure we'd never miss Thriller everytime it was shown on Halloween.

HIStory was EPIC!!!!!

Scream and YANA got non-stop airtime... An event. Bascially, everywhere I went, I saw the poster...

It was the only form of Michaelmania I really experienced. Yes, Scream was HUGE at the time...Just HUGE.

I remember before the album came out, they were showing on ET, the double gold CD's...I was just like, 'WOW'!! I saved ALL my money babysitting to pay for that album. It was about $45 back then.

As far as History is concerned, I remember I was asleep. I set my radio alarm to wake me up. And by coincidence it was SCREAM! I heard it for the first time! I was so surprised to hear a new Michael Jackson's song!
I immediately ran to the sdhop to buy the album, but they told me that I was going to wait for at least month before they got it :(

HISTORY is an excellent album! A bit underrated. But at that time Michael's image was terribly hurt.

The songs on that album are all excellent.

I have all the maxi cds, and some remixes are simply awesome!

I also have R.Kelly alternative remix of YANA, which is slightly different, but much better than the version on the album, smoother, softer.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Cascio Controversy Thread)

The earliest form of Michaelmania I remember is when me and my sister would watch "Ghosts". I loved it immensely! Keep in mind I was 3-4, and though I'm embarrassed to say this, I initially thought MJ was a girl purely because of the long hair (to a young kid, long hair was basically all you needed to distinguish gender... Well it was for me, at least). It was one of the few times I enjoyed watching MTV, and I recorded it and watched it over and over again. I also saw "Earth Song", which actually kinda creeped me out in terms of the elephant being revived, and with "You Are Not Alone", I always hated that song because, to me at that time it just felt like MJ was a generic singer who sings ballads all the time, and my sister would swoon over him in that video. How wrong I was!!! I love "Ghosts" so much that as soon as I learned it was on VCD I got two copies, one to own and one to keep sealed!

I know. The double gold CD's with the statue image. Another "wow" factor right there. Both Scream and YANA are HUGE... People cannot stop talking about the music video of YANA. By today's standard, it's nothing. Back then, where I lived, it's a mini controversy. Michael Jackson was half naked with his new wife in the video... I still remember a comment made by the VJ. She said, "Michael Jackson can't wait to show off his beautiful body."... Lol....

Omg... wake up to Scream, a new Michael Jackson song. You felt surreal, didn't you?

Scream was BIG when it's released. The video was innovative. Seriously, something never seen before.

@Aniram, that's not a terribly bad thing :D We're just relaying our nostalgic experiences with Michael and how he's changed our lives! :D

We are travelling back in order to fgure out why we do or don't hear Michael on the Cascio songs. :D

Yeah! I thought I was still dreaming!Lol

But it immediately gave me such energy! THAT energy! (the one compeletely absent from the Cascio tracks).

Your sister was not alone! Back then, I actually prefer watching YANA than Scream. I was about 15 and I guess I started seeing Michael in a different light.

Seeing him with just a towel on his lap and with a black lacey un-bottoned shirt was a lot for a girl to handle.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Cascio Controversy Thread)

Err... Yes, that's the reason! This whole time we were cleverly making tiny observations! For some reason, I also vaguely remember seeing "You Rock My World", but no real memory of it. Crazy times, the early 2000s...

@love is magical, the 90s sure were great. The thing is, the people at my school still see MJ as that guy during 2005. For instance, one of my friends said that he looked like a fr*** when he passed, I showed her the iconic "This Is It" picture, and she still said the same, even though in that pic he didn't look like he aged at all from the "Dangerous" era!

Yeah, I was 13 when the YANA video first came out. Let's just say my thoughts weren't as innocent anymore :ninja: I was like, 'is that what I think it is?' :ninja: Michael definitely has the most beautiful body

Better stop with this discussion, love is magical, because I think me and you can go for hours about this lol

I know. I know. We can move this discussion to the manhood thread... lol...

Bumper, Sam and Jesta will not take us seriously anymore if we continue with this topic.

I'm giggling now. Now, when I think about my YANA crush, it was embarassingly sweet and funny.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Cascio Controversy Thread)

Believe me, I've taken so many things seriously that I shouldn't have... Like the words of "Alex/Susie"... But I can definitely understand where you two are coming from, given that you were both teenage girls at the time, and MJ was... Well, given that I'm a guy, I'd be immensely threatened if I knew him.
