Michael Jackson set to rule U.S. pop chart

Michael Jackson set to rule U.S. pop chart

LOS ANGELES (Billboard) - Michael Jackson is on track to score his sixth No. 1 on the U.S. pop chart next week with the companion album for his new concert movie "This Is It."

Industry prognosticators suggest the album -- which was released on Monday -- could shift between 300,000 and 350,000 copies by Sunday night. Sales data for the week will be released next Wednesday by tracking firm Nielsen SoundScan.

Jackson already owns the year's best-selling album with his 2004 hits package "Number Ones" -- 2 million and counting. Additionally, his 1983 blockbuster "Thriller" is the year's 11th best-seller (1.1 million) and 2005's "The Essential Michael Jackson" is the 15th biggest (986,000).

"Thriller" marked his first No. 1. The follow-ups, "Bad," "Dangerous," "HIStory" and "Invincible," also hit the top.

The "This Is It" album contains 14 studio recordings of Jackson's hits like "Billie Jean" and "Beat It" and two versions of the from-the-vaults title track, which plays over the film's end credits. It also includes three demo recordings and a spoken word poem titled "Planet Earth." The film opens worldwide on Wednesday.

Oh please! lol

That is only in AMERICA!!! The Beatles have released DOZENS and dozens of albums, including Elvis and all the rest of them on that list! Michael has released a handful of albums in comparison! Do the math! Michael wins!

Worldwide he is right up there with the Beatles and has released a quarter of what they have! NO ONE sells like Michael Jackson does per album, no one! Hence why Thriller has sold over 100 million alone! The Beatles can't do that, damm not even God can do that!

yeah i know that but that's not what i meant, i meant catalogue vs. catalogue. I know that MJ has released far less albums than the beatles and i know his albums were more groundbreaking but I NEVER thought they would outsell MJ 2 folds... never.

Oh please! lol

Yea. I said something similar a while ago.

Michael Jackson has the best selling album of all time. Is there even another album that came close to selling 70 million? They released way more albums than Michael, but why don't they have an album that has sold anywhere in the vicinity of Thriller. So what if Elvis or The Beatles sold more records. If you took an average of both artists complete catalog, MJ's would be higher. Here is a good explanation for the validity behind this:
Example: Many people consider Michael Jordan to be the best player in basketball, but did you know Jordan isn't even the NBA's all time leading scorer. That would belong to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Abdul Jabbar scoring 38387 while Jordan having 32292. However, Kareem played in more games than Jordan (similar to Elvis and the beatles having more albums than MJ). Jordan played in 1072 games while Abdul-Jabbar played in 1560. Abdul-Jabbar averaged 24.6 points per game, while Jordan averaged 30.1 over the span of their careers. Both were great players, but many consider Michael Jordan the best to play the game.
In correlation, you could argue that Elvis and the Beatles are better because he has sold more records. However, you could also argue that Michael Jackson is better because he has the best selling album of all time, and averages a better selling rate per album than Elvis or the Beatles.

But they didn't.

Well at least not Elvis.

As far as I see it. Including albums plus singles.

1. The Beatles- 450-490 million records

2. MJ- 335 million BEFORE he died, and around 375 now.

3. Elvis- 300-330 million

Thanks the amazing truth!

Well said, thank you for that… :clapping:

GLOBAL SALES THIS WEEK: JACKSON SELLS 220,000 ALBUMS

-Global sales were very similar to last week, with total album sales of around 220,000.

-Jackson had two (2) top albums in the charts including Thriller (#26) and Number Ones (#40) with two others just missing the chart.

-Thriller sold another 39,000 copies this week, while Number Ones sold 35,000 copies.

-Total global album sales since Jackson's death now stand at 16.6 million.

-Expect a big debut next week on the charts for Jackson, as his THIS IS IT soundtrack is expected to sell 300,000 copies in the US alone. Global sales should exceed 500,000! Plus with the hype from This Is It, expect Jackson's other catalogue albums to rise as well. How much remains to be seen.

This Is It earned $20,145,661 million worldwide(confirmed sales). With $7.4 million coming from US alone. The second highest earner(US) on Wednesday was $1.4 million(Paranormal).,so not bad going.

Billboard is going to merge the Fearless Platinum Edition's numbers to the original Fearless sales!!!
Here's the answer that Billboard gave to one of their fan about album re-issues;

"Billboard has many guidelines about the merging of so-called special edition albums with their original parent albums. Generally speaking, two or more versions of an album will not be merged if the title of the special edition version is substantially different from the original. For Lady Gaga's 'The Fame' and 'The Fame Monster,' we feel that the change was in line with what we've allowed in the past (a la Rihanna's 'Good Girl Gone Bad' and 'Good Girl Gone Bad Reloaded').

"Additionally, for our chart purposes, there is no limit as to how many audio tracks or songs can be added to an original album, as long as the additional audio content does not extend beyond one additional CD (or digital equivalent) and the content of the standard edition remains intact.

"Thus, the reissue of Lady Gaga's 'The Fame' in a deluxe version ('The Fame Monster') with additional songs will have its sales combined with the original 'Fame' album. The same goes for the 'Platinum Edition' of Taylor Swift's 'Fearless'."

Is it possible??? considering there's 10 videos in it. It will sell like a new album. There's so much new contents included, it's almost like a new album. I don't understand why they allow so many new material to include with re-issues.
It's a market strategy and it should not be allowed.

Michael Jackson's mortuary picture worth £2m

London, (ANI): An unseen shocking photo of Michael Jackson lying on the autopsy table might rake in 2 million dollars for a restaurateur who got hold of the picture from a police friend.

Buzz up!In the picture, which has reportedly been shown to high-level television bosses, the 51-year-old dead superstar is said to be lying on a metal autopsy table.

So... if this is allowed for them, why not for Thriller25, and RIAA included all the sold albums of Thriller in their latest 29 platinum certificate??? Id say NO!

Thriller surpassed 30 mil. in the US for sure, but who cares, right? but the Eagles will have the 30 mil. certificate very soon.... and they will be announced as the first and the best... :wild::wild::bugeyed:bugeyed

This Is It has hit No.3 on the UK album chart with sales of 78,097. Pretty impressive especially considering there are already a lot of compilations on the market.

So with all this money coming in can we assume that all of michael's debit is 100% paid off?

Michael Jackson will be #1 on Billboard 200 come Wednesday. His THIS IS IT soundtrack will sell over 350,000 albums this week (Higher sales than Invincible). His Number Ones album will be in the Top 10, while Thriller and Essential will both make Top 50.

I will issue some US numbers tomorrow night as HDD releases their final report. Overall, I think Jackson's catalogue shifted over 500,000 albums in the last week alone! This will be the largest MJ sales since July. Way to go guys!

Also, on the Thriller 25 front, Nielsen Soundscan adds Thriller 25 sales to the original Thriller. Remember Thriller was 27X platinum in 2007 then in early 2009 it was 28X platinum to take into account the 1 million copies sold (Thriller 25). Just recently, Thriller has been certified 29X platinum due to the huge sales since Jackson's death. I remember Billboard specifically answering that question in 2008, saying Thriller 25 was not eligible to chart on Billboard 200 however the sales would be added to original Thriller album sales so don't worry guys!

How stupid are their policies......by then Thriller 25 wouldn't allow to chart but now they are allowing whole new albums to account under parental album. See Taylor Swift's album contain 5 whole new songs and 10 videos.,it's whole lotta new addition. Who don't want to buy an album which has 5 new songs and vids. And I heard Lady Gaga is going to release her platinum edition with 8 new songs!
T25 only contains remix versions of his songs....So I don't understand why they should bother about it first place.
