"Michael", a biopic about Michael Jackson, is officially happening.

Well it will appear in the charts because it is likely on every single halloween playlist on youtube and spotify lol
Which makes it ICONic.

For godsakes not only does the man have a upcoming Biopic, but also a nationwide/worldwide MJ theatre tour thanks to the blockbuster success of the MJ Broadway show!

I'm begging some MJ fans to please touch some grass. I have worn my MJ shirts in public multiple times (since 2019) and all I have gotten is praise. I constantly hear MJ's music on the radio or in public. I live in the US and I am Gen Z. Very few times when I was younger did I have a "friend" say something and they were joking and weren't serious about it.

He's been dead for over 14 years now. I suggest to get off the gloom train and do something productive. MJ wouldn't want people to just mope around and mourn about what some Facebook commenters said.

Further derail - have just looked up the original poster for this Wembley anniversary. Seems there are other people besides Michael's fans who are pissed off. Rugby league is not featured nor is speedway nor is WWE. Apparently this is a big deal. Also, it seems some of the pop stars on the poster only played there once. Someone is quoted as saying they think the poster has been designed by someone who doesn't know anything at all about the 100 year history of Wembley but instead think it all started in the 60's or 70's.

All of which makes me wonder if Michael's absence is such a big deal after all. Just a thought.

It's just a bad poster overall. Just a poor showing for the entity known as Wembley. They put as much care into the poster as the estate does on the average project.

This is what I'm thinking. Tbf, I do think @filmandmusic has made some valid points but I am now seeing this poster quite differently than I did even 30 mins ago. The piece I read was quite interesting. Also, even though Bobby Moore is on there holding the 1966 world cup, his image is quite small in the overall design. I would have expected it to be much larger. His image is actually slightly smaller than Taylor Swift's. So the whole thing is freakin' weird.

So this gets us back to your point about the organisation currently running Wembley. Who knows, maybe they are the ones who know fk all about the history of the place and they don't care. Comparisons with MJE is making a lot of sense to me.

It just goes to show Michael has long lost his status as an icon, it is just us fans that haven’t accepted it yet but the controversies clearly won and took him down. It is only a matter of time before he gets completely erased from memory.
Don’t forget we are only a minority, maybe there are a few million of us left worldwide but we are nothing but a small statistic trying to keep a former icon alive while the rest of the world is erasing him step by step.
Do you actually believe this over dramatic nonsense?

You won’t see this happening with the Beatles or Queen because they have an important thing going for them. Namely, they are not cancelled by media or decision makers, Michael is. So this means these guys will always be seen as legends, as game changers. Aspiring musicians will continue to name them as influences because there is no shame added to their names, getting name recognition is very important.
I kinda concede to this point. Queen is very popular now, much more so than MJ actually. Right now anyway. They are enjoying a cultural Renaissance.

Elvis though, he's not getting the streams even with the pretty good biopic. MJ outpaces him by Miles. The Beatles, while influential, and always relevant, also aren't charting too high up. Their game changing music just isn't as interesting to people as MJ. Billie Jean isn't exactly deeper but it goes hard on the dance floor and always will. Numbers can't and don't lie.

Also, were talking exclusively the Anglo-American world. In other countries, MJ is the only Western pop star. Period.

I think the thing here is that Elvis’ music has really grown outdated. With the likes of Queen you still have music that pushes boundaries. Anyway they will eventually also grow out of style just like Elvis. How many stars of the 50s are still stars? Not many, probably none. Queen’s music producing prime was 2 decades later than Elvis so their time will come.
With the Beatles it is just different, they were pioneers. The music they made was so ahead of its time that it becomes timeless.

I don’t know about that, it could be a myth. MJ was popular in most countries for sure but I’m also quite sure he wasn’t the only one. I know for a fact that MJ is not the biggest western music seller in Japan. Don’t ask me for stats because I don’t have them any longer.

The biopic did wonders for Queen. Their music was everywhere, it introduced them to a totally new audience that weren't interested in them previously.
Yes! I became a fan of Queen because of the biopic! I also remember how there was a huge new wave of fans my age (I was 13 at the time) piling into the Queen fandom.

That was honestly a much simpler time. I'd rejoin the Queen fandom if I could, but I'm not nearly as passionate about them as I was back in middle school. 😭

I mean isnt MJ still the biggest selling deceased artist?

MJs career survived multiple disgusting false allegations that would end any other artist years ago. They tried cancelling MJ in 2019. Didnt work. I still hear his music on the radio, sports games etc.

Streaming is king now. Mjs music is still getting heard. He will always be an icon.
If the biopic is good I'm sure MJ will get a similar "boost" as queen & elvis.

Heaven can wait (an invincible track ) exploded on tiktok from non fans who never even heard it before.

Mj isnt going anywhere.

Looking on the bright side (I think), a biopic at least isn't the only way to attract new fans in this case. Many other pioneering artists who have passed away only have that alternative, but in MJ's case, his outtakes can serve as a starting point for new fans, the big problem is that this is no longer a priority. I have a group of friends who know Love Never Felt So Good and Chicago, but they don't know Leave Me Alone, for example.

As superficial as the script is, I hope this movie will be a massive success.

We kinda seem to be glossing over the fact that to MJ detractors, specific allegations and rumors do not matter. They are just hell bent on erasing his positive messages. As virtually every hierarchy of power is tied to people disempowerment, intolerance, arms sales and environmental destruction in these times, billionaires and their supporters use any tool they find currently most effective.

When his message is most needed, it is most deplatformed. The fact that negative articles still pop up at strategic times should be very telling. Michael’s unifying powers are still a threat to the powerful. That tells me it can still prevail. All the more reason to display his work louder and clearer!

If he has lost his iconic status explain why smooth fm still had him as number 2 icon of 23! He had been number 1 for 2 or 3 years but just this year got only just beat by George Muchael. Michael is still without a doubt an icon and when this biopic comes out youvwill see how much people still care.

It's officially sanctioned by the estate & the Jackson family, and it's going to be co-produced by Graham King (AKA the producer of Bohemian Rhapsody who secured the rights to make an MJ biopic several months ago) and it's gonna be distributed by Lionsgate.

Also, Graham King is a fan who mentions that he's done his own research about the allegations and believes that he was innocent. So we've got that going for us, which is nice.

Personally, I don't think that a single 2-hour movie is enough to do justice to Michael's career, and I'd rather see the Estate focus on a project that helps vindicate MJ's innocence (e.g. Taj's upcoming Kickstarter documentary series). However, if this movie is done well and is able to improve the general public's perception of Michael in a more positive way, than it's a win-win situation.

What are your thoughts, everyone?
I don't know if anybody has already mentioned this, but isn't Jafaar Jackson playing as his uncle (Michael Jackson)?

with the biopic being put on hold due to the writer’s strike, there would be more of an incentive for the estate to release the ‘thriller 40’ documentary don’t you think ?🤔 🤩
Is the biopic on hold or is that just speculated?
