This is just so BACKWARDS, in my opinion.

Why conduct a press conference BEFORE you have your line-up confirmed?

Did they learn nothing after Jermaine's attempts at presenting a tribute!

Katherine Jackson clearly said: "after she heard who would be performing she knew it would be a tribute fit for a king."

What she SHOULD have said is: "we sent out invitations to all of today's top artists, we are waiting for their responses."

Maybe someone told her who they thought they could get and she figured it was who they had already

One could mean, Michael's Band has still given in June, 2009 a concert....

Some members of the band are already working with Cirque du Soleil and the Estate for the IMMORTAL WORLD TOUR. So they won't be available at all.

You will better know this than me, Passy....

I thought, Michael's brothers are meant with this.

It could be Sugarfoot who also worked with MJ's brothers.

I'm sure it's not Michael Bearden

I personally think that we are once again seeing the incompetence of the organizers. I believe they just focused on signing the Jacksons and then they assumed that the artists and the fans will come running when Katherine the 81 year old mourning mother of Michael made statements including "my son loved you" , "honor my son" etc..

Well, you're not entirely wrong. still, with Jermaine and Randy already protesting I don't see this happening.

that statement made me want to like his fan page. can you give a link to it please?

DANG, Michael Bearden's comment is a definite OUCH!

He was pretty clear regarding this tribute and I'm sure he is not the only person in the music business who feels exactly like he does. They're just not as vocal, publically, as Bearden is.

I think some in the family believes that when other artists hear the name 'Michael Jackson', they would come running towards them and beg to be part of this event. If this was like the concerts in 2001 which did have many modern and old school artist paying tribute to Michael, they may have gotten away with last minute arrangements. The big problem being, of course, is that Michael is no longer here, therefore it isn't like these artists are doing something that they themselves couldn't or haven't already done on their own concerts or tour.

No artist, even their friends at Motown, is going to run to an event that is half-ass as this. Because it would make them look back and the public would come to the conclusion that they are desperate for PR or a comeback. So, I expect most artists to run away from this event as fast as possible.

Katherine Jackson Courting MASSIVE Stars for MJ Tribute Show

Michael Jackson's mom has personally reached out to some of the biggest music stars in the world in the hopes of getting them to perform at the big MJ tribute show in October ... but only ONE of them is a definite YES ... TMZ has learned.

Sources connected to the concert tell us ... Jay-Z, Kanye West, Cee Lo, Chris Brown, Justin Bieber, Christina Aguilera, Usher and Bruno Mars have each received an invitation (pictured above) from Katherine Jackson ... asking them to perform 1 or 2 of their favorite MJ songs in Cardiff, Wales on Oct. 8.

Katherine promises each star who signs on will be provided with "first class travel accommodations."

We're told Chris Brown, Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars have each respectfully declined the invite due to scheduling conflicts ... however, Christina and Kanye are leaning towards "Yes."

As for the one person who's already signed on the dotted line -- sources tell us Cee Lo from Gnarls Barkley was quick to commit.

Tickets to the event have not gone on sale yet -- but promoters say they will become available once a complete line-up is booked.

Ugh. Take the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you, and this would still be more embarrassing than that. They just don't have any shame do they? I suppose they have to become a complete public laughing-stock before they decide to tuck their tails between their legs and disappear :puke:

Kanye West and Jay-Z is off the list as wellThe Throne Tour: Jay-Z & Kanye West Target Center Minneapolis, MN 10/8/2011http://www.targetcenter.com/default.asp?targetcenter=87&objid=945
I am enjoying this. (please insert MJ eating popcorn). How much do you wanna bet, they still haven't learned their lesson. Next year, Jernaine or another Jackson will try again.I am just praying MJ's name doesn't rake a hit when (not if) this blows up

I just saw this posted at LSA. The J's are getting desperate and are pulling out all the stops to make this mess of a tribute work.

Sugarfoot (Jonathan Moffett) is the CONFIRMED drummer on the IMMORTAL TOUR...

Greg Phillinganes is the musical director as well for the IMMORTAL TOUR..

Michael Bearden has obviously said No.

Sooo im pretty sure Sugarfoot and Greg Phillinganes dont have time to be part of this tribute.. The Cirque du soleil tour kicks off in October 2 and then a show on October 7.. And im sure their contractual obligations doesnt allow them to take part of the tribute. . so im curious to know who from Michaels band will be part of Katherines tribute.

On another note, this is so embarrasing to witness. I wish Katherine well in her project but its painful to witness this take place yet AGAIN! They never learn, do they? Amateurs..

Tito Jackson and HIS BAND, will now be called Michael's band. LOL!

They are all trying to play coy as to what part they will take in this ongoing madness, but I'm certain that each and ever one of the Jacksons who have either banged on an empty pot in the kitchen, to those who have sang a song in the shower will be vying for a place on stage. LOL!

Jacksons plan Wednesday announcement for Michael tribute line-up

By Alan Duke, CNN
August 9, 2011 -- Updated 1712 GMT (0112 HKT)

STORY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Jackson family members will announce the signed acts in a CNN interview
  • "Michael Forever: The Tribute Concert" ticket sales were postponed by signing delays
  • Jermaine and Randy Jackson objected to the timing of the show
  • The concert is set for October 8 in Cardiff, Wales

Los Angeles (CNN) -- Michael Jackson's mother and several siblings hope to get plans for a tribute concert for the late pop star back on track with an announcement of the show's line-up Wednesday.
The Jacksons and promoter Global Live Events promised a spectacular list of artists for the October 8 "Michael Forever: The Tribute Concert" in Cardiff, Wales, at a news conference last month.
Delays in signing the acts, however, forced a postponement in ticket sales, which had been set to begin last week.
"The registration period was put on hold because we want people to know who they are registering to see," Chris Hunt, the head of the British company promoting the concert, said in a message posted online Friday.
Artists have now been signed to contracts and their names will be revealed by members of the Jackson family in a CNN interview set for Wednesday, a spokesman for the promoter said Tuesday.

"Fans of Michael's music will get the concert they've been waiting for," Hunt said in a message posted on the promoter's website last Friday.
"Some of the greatest names in music are already signed, and more are trying to shuffle other commitments to come on board," a statement posted Friday on the concert website said.
Two of the five surviving Jackson brothers, Jermaine and Randy, objected to the timing of the show, issuing a sharply worded statement last month that reflected a deep division within the Jackson family.
"We want to make clear that this does not reflect the position of the entire family," the two brothers said in a joint statement released hours after their mother, sister La Toya and brothers Jackie, Tito and Marlon endorsed the show.
"While we wholeheartedly support the spirit of a tribute that honors our brother, we find it impossible to support an event that is due to take place during the criminal trial surrounding Michael's death," Jermaine and Randy Jackson said.
The involuntary manslaughter trial of Michael Jackson's physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, begins in September and is expected to continue into October.
La Toya Jackson, at the news conference on July 25, said the show would be "something that's spectacular," while the Jacksons' mother called it "a show fit for a king."
"If my son were here today, he would feel the same way," Katherine Jackson said.
"I know my brother would be very, very proud to see all the artists that he admired and respected so much coming together for this event," Tito Jackson said.
It was hours later that the other Jackson siblings spoke up.
"In light of this, we feel it is inappropriate to be involved with such an ill-timed event and its promoter, Global Live," Randy and Jermaine Jackson said. Their statement said the idea of the October concert was presented to the entire family in April "as an idea already in its advanced stages." The decision to go ahead with it "disrespects opinions and wishes expressed in the strongest terms" by some members of the Jackson family, they said.
The Michael Jackson Fan Club agreed with the two brothers, issuing a similar statement.
"We share their concerns that this concert is taking place at a most inappropriate time when everyone's care and attention should be focused on the matter of justice. We believe that, as stated by Jermaine and Randy, the most important tribute we can give to Michael Jackson at this time is to seek justice in his name."
Jackson fans posted messages on the concert's Facebook page questioning ticket prices and the process for buying them.
Fans must place bids for a chance to buy a ticket. The higher their pledge to a charity, the better their chances of getting a good seat.
"The ticket system is so bad!! the higher you bid the better seats you get?? not every Michael fan is rich!!!" one fan posted on the "Michael Forever Tribute" Facebook page Thursday.
The October 8 show, in the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff, which seats 75,000 people, would be at least four hours long, Hunt said.
In addition to the other problems surrounding the event, a spokesman for Michael Jackson's estate said last month that the promoters never sought or obtained permission from the estate's executors to use late pop singer's name or image.
"The estate has not been contacted and is not involved with Global Live Events in the UK tribute concert announced today," spokesman Jim Bates told CNN.

QUOTE]

Jennifer Batten is in London in late October (teaching,I think) , so looks potentially available and gegraphically close. Not sure about Orianthi

So that second Press Conference in London will no longer happen.

The NEW plan is to announce the line-up in a CNN INTERVIEW. Okay!

Cee-Lo, Craig David, AND.......

It'll be interesting to hear who has signed up to this gig. i'm even more interested to hear how they plan to put this all together. When are the band gonna start practising together? When are the acts gonna be able to rehearse with each other and with the band and dancers? What are the video screens gonna show? Will the acts have to bring their own costumes? :)
