Did MJ Find Love In The Dark (continued)

Hey folks, long time no see. Sooo many beautiful, thoughtful and insightful posts since i last visited this wonderful thread. Nice to see summer back and everybody givin' such great contributions, either in thoughts or in videos (Sus, queen, MP, Ash). So nice to see the lil engine that can keeps on rollin'. This lil' thread reminds me of the Chugginton cartoon series, since we are talkin' cartoons *giggles*

And because this thread lasted so long, especially this past year, I really need to send the hugest shout out 2 All4MJ for creating it in the first place. We are approching its second year anniversary. Wednesday to be exact, round the same date Hold my hand made its way unto the internet, right? I actually remember there being another similar thread a few months prior, but that one was ended at some point and All4MJ opened this new one after the release of the song and we all know the rest....it hasn't stopped since. Also meant to congrat AllforMJ for that wonderful post with all the images some weeks ago. As I said homegirl, it took ya a while, but it was well worth the wait :p And because I mentioned that diamond of a song, Hold my hand, here is a beautiful collage of images I am sure you will all enjoy :cheeky:

In honor of the protagonist of the previous vid and of this thread obviously, here are a couple of songs i've always related to Michael. The first is Real to me, by Brian McFadden, of Westlife fame, for those of you familiar with the European boyband phenomenon. It's always been my impression Michael would have connected really well with this particular song. Not necessarily with the watching football (as in soccer) on tv lol, cause that ain't an American thing to be perfectly honest and I don't know about his tea drinkin' habits either, but yall get the point – I mean the essence of the song; that I am pretty much convinced he could have easily relate to.

The second video I meant to share was Original of the species from the masterpiece of an album which is How to dismantle an atomic bomb, from back in 2005 by "my boys" U2. Ever since I first heard the song, some of the lyrics made me think of him please stay a child, somewhere in your heart and some things you shouldn't get too good at, like smiling, crying and celebrity. The video is spectacular as well. Although I am not much of a fan of CG stuff, I gotta admit in this one they did a great job, but even greater than that is the rawness of the emotions expressed by the band, especially Bono – God bless him, I hope he recovers soon from his surgery and they all get back on track with their tour.

Today occurs the 2nd month, meant to say the 8th month anniversary of the release of THE movie and I wanted to share a gorgeous portion of it. These past few days i've seen some re-runs of a really great documentary done last summer by MTV UK called Michael Jackson's Human nature – a refreshing look at one of the most, if not the most overlooked, aspect in all of Michael's life – his humanity. It featured beautiful interviews with folks such as Akon, Kenny Ortega, Teddy Riley who shared some truly beautiful, personal and touching stories from their experiences with Michael. So, without much further do, here is the spectacular performance of Human nature from the masterpeace which is the movie THIS IS IT. *smiles thinking of the pinguin move*

I might have posted this song before, so I have to apologize in advance if I am repeating myself with this one, but it is too beautiful not to. In the Hold my hand vid before there was a beautiful saying Love is love's reward. Since that's what this thread is all about, how bout some good ole' Satchmo?

And last, but not least, in honor of MP's “location” *giggles...agaiiin* here is a 2 in 1 pack offer of wonderful videos 4 I'll be there. I initially found this amazing acapella version, but then I also noticed this other one from the 30th solo anniversary concerts in NY back in 2001.

It is sooo beautiful to see Michael leaning on Jermaine's shoulder like that; i gotta admit that scene made me cry when i saw it. It shows how happy all of them were to be performing together once more. God bless them bros.

I know these days are rough for everyone, but always remember – LIFE is the most precious gift, it is a CELEBRATION. We must make all the time in the world....for nothing more, nothing less than LOVE.

I best be on my merry way now be4 some “theresheisagainwitherlongarseposts” patrol comes after my behind.*leaves whilst singin' along in a child's voice the Chugginton theme: Chugginton, chugga, chugga, chugga......Chugginton*

Hi there!

Yesterday I was traveling through youtube with my brother and remembered our childhood with Voyage, Voyage. We loved this song, so I thought why not share with my friends from LITD? I hope you like and "Voyage, Voyage (...) Au dessus des capitales, des idées fatales, Regarde l'océan." :)

God bless you!

This video always makes me smile....

Wow! I have never seen this nor heard that song! It does make one smile. :D

I loved it; thanks for posting it. Two beautiful voices. And the concept behind this little performance is full of charm.

How's everybody doin' in here? I'm kinda amused at the moment because my son just got my attention. I'm hearing musical notes all of a sudden and I turned to look and by the sink are about five drinking glasses filled haphazdardly with varying amounts of water (don't ask why) and they were just sitting there. He apparently noticed them and grabbed a pen and was hitting against them. I said, "Wow, where had you learned that from? How did you remember they would make different notes?" and he said " I remembered that from Blue's Clues!" Now that was a LONG time ago. He's 14 now.

Here that video above speaks of growing up and questions will someone remain basically the same even after they do? I love it when I see in my son the same enjoyable boy I remember him being when he was a little tike...like when he and I watched so many Blue's Clues episodes together. :)

Like Schoolhouse Rock, Marlo Thomas's 1970s children's TV show, Free to Be… You and Me met with immediate success and became a treasured piece of entertainment over the years. Based on her award-winning album of songs, skits, and comedy, Free to Be explores the infinite possibilities of childhood. Fans know most of the skits in the 45-minute show verbatim, and it's easy to see why right from the beginning with an infectious title track followed by a puppet sketch featuring Thomas and Mel Brooks as newborns. Top talent appears on both sides of the camera, including Alan Alda who directs and performs a cartoon about a boy who wants a doll. However, the presentation does show its age at times: a teenage Michael Jackson singing (with Roberta Flack) on how he's not going to change when he grows up. For all ages. --Doug Thomas

Free To Be...You And Me is a journey into the endless possibilities of life, rich with positive, life-enhancing messages about growth and change. Free to Be… You and Me, a project of the Ms. Foundation for Women, is a record album, ABC Afterschool Special, and illustrated book first released in November 1972, featuring songs and stories from celebrities (credited as "Marlo Thomas and Friends"). Using poetry, songs, and sketches, the basic concept was to salute values such as individuality, tolerance, and happiness with one's identity; a major thematic message is that anyone, whether a boy or a girl, can achieve anything one wants.
The album has become a cult classic across the United States amongst many who were children in the 1970s.

You are SO on it! This was very informative. And interestingly I recently wondered if MJ had ever met Marlo Thomas. Wow. He seems to have met absolutely everyone in that business. When I was young I used to enjoy seeing if people would pick up the reference when I would all of a sudden rustle up my hair and flap my arms on top of my head and rest them there (I had dark hair and brown eyes like her and usually wore my hair long-ish). If they looked at me confused I would say, "Come on, haven't you ever seen "That Girl!" with Marlo Thomas?" I loved it when she did that with her hair in the intro of the show!" (am I ever dating myself) I bet Michael would have caught the reference. Maybe...

!!!Off Topic Alert!!!

Well, at least you stopped at the Flying Nun with Sally Field which doesn't make you as ancient as it would if you had gone as far back as Gidget with Sally Field! Seeeeeeeeeee...you're so young.

I still enjoy singing that song just like way back when:

Do-do-dodo do-do do-dodo

If you're in doubt about angels being real
I can arrange to change any doubt that you feel
Wait till you see that Michael...oh wait
Wait till you see that Gidget
You'll want him for your valentine....whoops, I mean
You'll want her for your valentine
You're gonna say "he's the one you adore" Oh shoot...
You're gonna say "she's the one you adore"
But stay away, Gidget is spoken for...I'm on track now...
You're gonna find
That Gidget is mine!

*wonders if she has those words right after all this time. Maybe it's on YouTube somewhere...should go look...*

What's this thread about again? o_O

I think my earliest memory would be listening to mj! :p
Awww. :) *sigh* I'm afraid I don't have those same bragging rights. The closest tie in I could have with 'MJ and my first memory' is that when I was living that memory he was safely tucked in his mommy's tummy... growing so sweetly while God was wroughting his little body with precision for it to become the amazing dancer's body that it would, and also God was forming in that little one a beautiful heart...all in such a secret place, but to later share that giving heart with the world.

I was on a train traveling from California to New Jersey sitting in a seat by the window with my sister standing in front of me. She was four and I was two. We had our noses pressed against the window and looking up at the sky; it was a beautiful blue sky with amazing clouds. My sister pointed up to the clouds and told me, "That is what heaven looks like."

Sweet, huh? The days of innocence. If there was only a way to go back to them after we have gotten ourselves far beyond them.

"Notice how MJ likes the way that his friend is holding him, loving him, touching him, and kissing him as he says in “The Way You Love Me,” and that it doesn’t matter to him how she’s doing it."

This is interesting (well lots was but since I am in bed almost asleep I thought one thing to point out will be enough). See how he says he likes the way that she does these things, yet it doesn't matter how she is doing them. It SOUNDS like a contradiction, but it isn't is it? I would like to hear your interpretation of that.

The Way You Love Me is one of my favorite mj ballads. It almost does sound like a contradiction. Perhaps he's saying as long as she is doing something to him, he'll appreciate it. But what i took away from this song was that it showed how mj could be a passive lover. The woman could do all the work and that's fine with him, which is very different from a lot of ballads where the male artist feels they have to showcase what they could do to and/or for a woman :)

"Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. Love does not demand its own way. Love is not irritable, and it does not keep record of when it has been wronged. Hi Ms. Emme7 :) Welcome. Thanks for some more input on the song The Way You Love Me. That's a good observation you've made. I see you quoted one of Ape's good posts. She has a lot of them.

One thing I have been thinking about relating to the song The Way You Love Me is the line "I was alone in the dark when I met ya."

We have discussed in here what could Michael have possibly meant by the Dark? What's he saying when he says "the dark." We've talked about it maybe meaning that he was alone in his bed sleeping and met her in his dreams or a vision. When you picture someone sleeping in their bed at night, you picture them lying there in the dark. Even Michael described it as that in such a cute way in the Barbara Walters interview in 1997. Remember? Lights switched off time! But it has been revealed it seems that MJ has always been in the habit of sleeping with lights on in his room and cartoons playing and music goin'...in other words, I'm not sure we can support that theory anymore. He might be alone while sleeping...it might be nighttime...but not dark. If it was the case, he should have had the line be "I was alone in the night when I met ya." Or somethin'.

Now in the case of Someone in the Dark we know it was written with Elliot's and E.T.'s first encounter in mind. It was also nighttime, but Elliot was outside in the dark. There was some light; he had a flashlight, but it wasn't enough light to chase all the night's darkness away. I think I remember him even dropping his flashlight at some point. He definitely met E.T. in the dark. But when MJ sang it, if he had some particular girl in his thoughts when he did, what was his meaning of the dark?

If, for example, you're sitting in your room at night reading a book with a light on by your chair, and a family member knocks on your door and comes in with someone they would like you to meet...would you describe it as meeting them in the dark? What if we say the light mostly lights up you and your book and the immediate surrounding area, but maybe the whole room isn't bright with light and there are some shadowy spots...would you be able to say "I met them in the "dark" then? What if you are just using a flashlight or a booklight and the rest of the room is dark...then could you say "I met them in the dark?"

If MJ just had the light of his TV going with cartoons and nothing else and fell asleep and dreamed about her, would "I was alone in the dark when I met ya" make sense then? But he has said he has to have a light coming down on his face when he is lying in bed because it reminds him of when a spotlight is coming down on him while on stage... and he is most comfortable when he has that emulated in his room setting when he tries to relax and go to sleep.

Doesn't seem like he was in the dark when he met her if it was in a dream...unless, I guess...the setting, in the dream where he met her, was dark. But do you think he'd go so far as to write lyrics that are mostly describing what went on in one of his dreams about her? In the dream did she take his hand and tell him she loved him? Did they kiss in the moonlight in his dream? Oh wait...moonlight...that depicts it being a nighttime setting for sure, doesn't it? But was it moonlight in a real life situation or moonlight in a dream? Also, could a girl coming to him in a dream only, be enough for him to claim this,

The world's a better place `cause you came in time,
You took away the rain and brought the sunshine.

Could even his having just a muse, made up of a girl from his imagination only, be able to accomplish the above for him? Well, I know my imaginary friend when I was four made MY world a better place and brought sunshine. Hmm.

And Michael is in a way like an imaginary friend to all of us because we do not really know him. But I know many talk to him and kiss his posters and say good morning and good night to him, and I know from many accounts of when fans first came across Michael Jackson, it changed their lives. So for many of us,

The world's a better place `cause [he] came in time,
[He] took away the rain and brought the sunshine

I guess these questions are going to be too hard to answer. I'm just like all of you exploring some ideas and trying to pay attention of what his lyrics might be saying. And these were my recent thoughts.

thanks so much for the welcome queen g :) i really do enjoy dissecting mj's lyrics and exploring the possible outcomes, with his lyrics a word can have a thousand different meanings.....Your synopsis on The Way You Love Me was so deep, i had to listen to the song again just to explore the full effect. I must say that when I heard the song for the first time and fell in love with it, I took it literally. I know that his body guards said that he had a couple of girlfriends. So I took the song to mean that there was an actual woman in his life that rescued him from the turmoil in his life. The term "dark" to me is a reference to the trials in his life that affected him emotionally. I don't think there is anything harder in life than when one is constantly being publicly ridiculed and demonized and that person's name is constantly being associated and referenced to that of a pedophile...This song makes me smile because there is definitely an underlining tone of joy and bliss. Something or Someone was making him smile and perhaps he did find love in the dark. I guess we'll never know....

And Michael is in a way like an imaginary friend to all of us because we do not really know him. But I know many talk to him and kiss his posters and say good morning and good night to him, and I know from many accounts of when fans first came across Michael Jackson, it changed their lives.
OMG!

I do it every day :wild: and I really never going to leave to do so. :girl_in_love:

The world's a better place `cause [he] came in time,
[He] took away the rain and brought the sunshine
  And......

Every time I look at you, baby, I see something new
That takes me higher than before and makes me want you more
I don't wanna sleep tonight, dreamin's just a waste of time
When I look at what my life's been comin' to
I'm all about lovin' you.....
