I know of the mention of a her/she/girl in that one verse
See that girl
She knows I'm watching
She likes the way I stare
but I was always under the impression that the original lyrics were written in such a way to "personify the city," and that one incident with the girl he stared at was just one of the scenes of his nightlife experiences and not a big deal. All other references to a her or she I thought meant "the city." Even the line
Reaching out
I touch her shoulder
I'm dreaming of the street
I thought that was also just being figurative for touching or connecting with the personified city.
But now that you are pointing out these adlibs with the mention of a her in a more romantic way...like giving her a rose, and how she looks fine and wanting her to come here...maybe MJ always had a particular girl in his mind, and was singing this song about his getting out of his "enclosed by gates" home and into the city where this girl was. I had never thought of it in that way before.
And if we add what Cleopatra and you are hearing him saying during the TII rehearsals
why does she do me that way
and AllForMJ and I are hearing him say also
She likes loving this way
maybe it indicates that he always had a girl in mind in connection with that song. I had no idea. I thought it was solely about him getting out into the city at night.
Human Nature
Looking out
Across the night-time
The city winks a sleepless eye
Hear her voice
Shake my window
Sweet seducing sighs
2nd Verse
Get me out
Into the nighttime
Four walls won't hold me tonight
If this town
Is just an apple
Then let me take a bite
Chorus
If they say -
Why, why, tell 'em that it's human nature
Why, why, does he do me that way
If they say -
Why, why, tell 'em that it's human nature
Why, why, does he do me that way
Reaching out
To touch a stranger
Electric eyes are ev'rywhere
See that girl
She knows I'm watching
She likes the way I stare
Chorus
If they say -
Why, why, tell 'em that it's human nature
Why, why, does he do me that way
If they say -
Why, why, tell 'em that it's human nature
Why, why, does he do me that way
I like livin' this way
I like lovin' this way
Looking out
Across the loneliness
The city's heart begins to beat
Reaching out
I touch her shoulder
I'm dreaming of the street
Chorus
If they say -
Why, why, tell 'em that it's human nature
Why, why, does he do me that way
If they say -
Why, why, tell 'em that it's human nature
Why, why, does he do me that way
I like livin' this way
About Gilda, Lily, and the song she sings...I had seen Gilda within the last year. There's a couple things going on in the storyline that might have been a reason why he chose that particular movie to include a scene with. But that particular song, I can't see how it would fit in anyway with his LITD girl. Unless you think he is putting the blame on her for something? I know we have touched that possibility before in this thread, but then decided he probably wouldn't have done that. And now we have SoS feeling more and more that the song, TII, is sounding like an "apology" and she has also mentioned in the past that in One More Chance she hears MJ say in an adlib, "It's all on me," as if he is taking the blame about something and wants her to know he understands his part in things not working out for them to get together in the past.
The plot in a couple of the films he used for that Smooth Criminal short involved love triangles, and Gilda is one of those films, and that, I guess, might line up with Who Is It. Other than that, I cannot come up with a connection for this thread (meaning something to do with his lady friend) as to why he chose Gilda singing that song. But Gilda throwing her glove at him and his catching it was a great idea! Classic.
Oh, is that where you heard that, before the song, Human Nature? I tried to listen for that both times I went to see TII because of your one post about it, but I couldn't remember which song. I thought maybe it was I Just Can't Stop Loving You and you were hearing something instead of his Spanish. But no, you heard it before Human Nature? Wow. That is interesting that he would sing "Keeping her around, around" to himself before that song.
Has anyone else heard what Summer heard? I wish I had.
Nevermind............................
I think I just lost my love vibe typing some thoughts out.....wow.......
Interesting that you would bring up what I've bolded above in your post, Lily, because guuuuueeesss what? When I read the lyrics in their entirety the song sounds like a pleading or a prayer for TRUE LOVE, God please show me a sign. He sounds sad. In a way it seems imo like he has searched/met/dated/even married and given of himself yet none of them were that one, his SOULMATE/TRUE LOVE. These first 3 lines say to me that maybe he envisioned someone and thought about her ALOT in his mind but he kept it all to himself because there were no words to describe what he's feeling. And if and when that day "she" was gifted into his life it would be something he would just have to KNOW, this is THE ONE.
or maybe not, I dunno.....
I won't go see the movie but from what you're saying it sounds like MJ improvised to how he wanted the lyrics to be not how they were originally written by someone else.
Maybe thats due to being in a relationship with someone? "She likes loving this way" sounds to me like their feelings of mutual love were known as well as expressed to each other.
I dunno.....
I lost my "love vibe" a long time ago...if that is of any consolation.  Eff love.
I was just watching some of the TII footage on YouTube, and just like when I saw it in the movie theater....every time I see the "11" in the audience, I just feel ABSOLUTELY GUTTED because all I can think of is: "I would have been standing EXACTLY where that is...and I would have been able to see Michael SO WELL after all!!" Wow... talking about regrets!! :timer: You know, before MJ died I was so disappointed about the seats I had for the shows. Like, SO disappointed I started crying every time I even thought about the concerts. I had always been at the very front at every single MJ concert I had went to before because I always waited for HOURS in front of the gates to get there, so the thought of being somewhere in the back this time just because of the seating and ticket prices was just SO disappointing, like I said. I was even considering giving away the three tickets I had bought for the first three shows (that got rescheduled) because I thought I will just torture myself if I go and am at the back where I can't see anything. I thought I'll just be SO DISAPPOINTED that I'll just cry and pout and be pissed off, and no one wants to see any pissed off faces in an MJ concert. Besides, I thought I don't want anyone to think I'd not be happy with MJ and the show if I was looking unhappy...when in reality I would have been upset about my seats and not seeing MJ. So anyways, my only hope was the BK 101 seat. I thought I might be able to see something from that one...and now that I see the footage (and I realize it's not from the O2, but I'm pretty sure it would have been similar to that) I realize what an AMAZING view I would have had and how well I would have been able to see from that one. So now I just feel completely gutted because I see what "could have been" and what now never will be. :boohoo: :boohoo: And it makes me SO ANGRY at myself too because all the whining just seems so stupid and ridicilous now. Now it's like "Well...you happy that you whined??? Now you won't see MJ ever again!! ANYWHERE. At least you would have been able to hear his voice and be in the same building with him...but now you'll never see him again!! Ever!! So you happy about having acted like a spoiled brat now??!!" Makes me wanna slap myself on the face HARD for the whining I did before. Because it's like "HELLO????!!! At least Michael was alive and at least there WERE concerts to go to....Look at what's left now??!! He's gone!! You'll never be able to see even a glimpse of him now! How do you feel about it now?? You still wanna whine about some stupid seats now, you idiot??!". Unfortunately one is always smarter afterwards....you know..."don't know what you've got 'til it's gone"....But anyways, I just feel totally gutted when I see what could have been.
Sorry for the rant.
I've been listening to both versions of Human Nature "on the fly" and was thinking of the sort of double entendre it sounds like as he refers to the city as "she", as well as human nature itself, (does she do me this way) - and I don't know if anyone else can hear it, (of course I'd like to) but it also sounds like to me that, just as he says, "tell 'em that its human nature" , there are other times when it sounds like he says, "tell her that its human nature", even though the question was, "if they say why, why". Listen carefully, he does it alternately ... sometimes he says it one way ("tell 'em that its .. ) then sometimes he does the other ("tell her that its ..) - unless he's just not fully pronouncing but its that way in both versions (TII and Thriller).I know of the mention of a her/she/girl in that one verse

First people keep asking Ash to share, and then they judge her if she does. I think that's a bit funny. Why can't everyone share what they think. We all don't always agree, but I think that shouldn't be a reason for anyone to tell someone else to "go elsewhere". Just my opinion.
What comes to the TDCAU scene...I think it was done while MJ was alive and MJ was involved in the creation. After all he came to the set on the day it was filmed. It's all in the TII footage. Isn't MJ even performing in front of that footage in the rehearsals?
Anyways...I saw This Is It again and I noticed a couple of things that were not "clues"...but just observations. His orange jeans had a little hole in them on the left knee. And he wore some kind of "pearl" bracelet at times too in rehearsals. I first thought it's some expensive diamond bracelet, but when I saw it closer it looked like tiny pearls, tied in the back like a friendship bracelet. Also...what caught me off guard and made me almost laugh out loud at MYSELF....was watching the footage in an IMAX theater...and all of the sudden realizing how MJ's behind was pretty much right in front of my face and I was like "Whoa! What a difference an IMAX makes! It's like 'right there'!" :bugeyed   And I was embarrassed that I had actually caught myself checking out his butt!   But like I said, it was "right there"...right in front of me...because the screen was huge...so when he turned around and lifted his jacket and shirt...it was hard to miss. Oh and these three kids were sitting right next to me with their parents and I spent half of the time watching their reactions and giggling at it because it was so cute! They were maybe between 5 and 8 years and they were leaning forward, watching MJ's every move closely. When I saw them, I just cracked up every time because it made me so happy for Michael and so happy to see how kids are blown away by all the stuff MJ does, and it was so awesome to see other's reaction to the movie. So anyways, the kids had pop corn with them, but they forgot to eat it because they were watching in complete amazement with their mouths wide open! So cute! And during Thriller they were all hiding behind their jackets...peeking behind their jackets because they were scared, I guess, but still didn't wanna miss a thing! SO CUTE! Like I said, I spent half of the movie by watching their reactions and I kept putting my hand to my face to hide the giggles because they and their reactions were so funny but so cute! All I could think was "I wish Michael could see...he'd be SO HAPPY!!"
I lost my "love vibe" a long time ago...if that is of any consolation.  Eff love.

Yeah, it's before the Human Nature footage we've seen on the clips. It's when he is on the side of the stage with Dorian and Kenny and kind of warming up and when they blend in "Dorian Holley Vocal coach" too. When he also sings "I like living this way...I like LLLOOOVING this way" and he sings the "loving" part in a special way...you know, emphasizing the "LLLLOOOVING" part. So that's when he also sings "Keeping her around...around"...a couple of times in a row. You know "Keeping her...keeping her around, around....keeping her... around around"...And then after that part comes the full song from the rehearsals. If you go see it again, watch out for that part.
Interesting that you would bring up what I've bolded above in your post, Lily, because guuuuueeesss what?
MJ's special that aired on television where he played the song "One More Chance" on television for the very first time, was called "The One."
Lily...there is just somethin' about that number seven. Gotta love it.
"We will start by listening to a song that is not a love song, but is the song where he expressed what it felt like being abandoned in his fame. It is the song where he said he felt cold. It is the song where he said the rain had come. It is the song where he said he was living lonely. It is the song that I started this thread with.
Stranger In Moscow
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfZz-q8CRLE
Before his HIStory album, he used to keep most of his feelings to himself. He stopped doing this and instead started letting his feeling out. While listening to his HIStory album it is not hard to understand what he is saying. He is speaking loud and clear.
Everything he said on his "Invincible" album is easy to understand as well from track 1 on through to track 16. He was still being honest about his feelings even as he wept. He titled his album after the track that is about a woman that was not giving in to him. The music that he chose for this song is similar to the music that he chose for the song just before it which is about a woman that was playing him.
When he is singing about someone that he feels comfortable with, he does not use such music that we hear with these two songs. It is quite the opposite as he started doing later on and continued doing. When he is courting in song, the music says he is. When he feels loved, the music says he does.
When he's not feeling loved, that is when we end up hearing a song like this...a song that has music that says the woman is working on his nerves and causing discord.
Heartbreaker
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qw3p6u-5Zug
The song that he chose to name his album after is about a woman that is not showing him any interest no matter what he's doing to get her attention. He placed this song right next to "Heartbreaker" and they share the same tone. The music in both is saying there is a feeling of dissatisifaction.
Invincible
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miBfwWHSmb8&NR=1
When he was happy, he did not sound like he does in this next song either and he also did not used to say what he is saying in this song when he was actually happy...
Don't Walk Away
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDnosW-dG8I
Recording multiple songs about dissatisfaction and placing them on the same album together is not what he used to do when he felt like he had love in his life. This is what he started doing whenever he was feeling heartbroken.
In order for someone to convince themselves that he did not sound like he was in love by the time he got to his "Number Ones" CD, they would have to ignore the beautiful sound that they hear coming from him and also the words that they hear him saying about being in love.
He selected the song "One More Chance" as the new song for his "Number Ones" CD. It is a love song that he did the string arrangement for himself. And keep in mind that he released this beautiful love song while he was still going through all of the chaos that was created by the documentary that had let him down.
One More Chance
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqAtnrtwuTA
By the time he had released this next beautiful love song, that he worked on in 2004, he was going through the hardest thing he ever had to deal with while alive and it was caused by that same documentary that had let him down. He was now fighting for his freedom and even although he was, he still felt compelled to express his feelings for his special someone. He not only sounds like he is in love in this song, but he sounds like he is helplessly in love. And this is after saying the year before that all he needed was one more chance at love...one more chance.
Beautiful Girl
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gf-9t7F8LuI
Right next to "Beautiful Girl" he places this next song which is also about him being in love with someone and it is in this song that he says she took the rain away. When did he say the rain started? It was around the time that he had recorded "Stranger In Moscow" and that was a very long time ago. That cold storm lasted for many years. He had revealed in "One More Chance" what he needed to get out of the cold and from listening to what he later said in "Beautiful Girl," he received what he needed. The tone of the music is saying it, his voice is saying it and the words he is singing are saying it.
In his song "The Way You Love Me" you will notice that he is now starting to mainly use the word "you" while singing to her and he sounds elated in this song.
The Way You Love Me
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWu5lOiLZxQ
He continues only using the word "you" while singing "For All Time" too, and he is still expressing his love, but he goes a step further and tells her their hearts belong so well and their souls are embracing, and he mentions the rain going away again.
For All Time

AllForMJ, great post. Just I think there are some more interesting lyrics in-between we even didn't go trough but they may have some meaning as well. I know you were going through the albums only.
Some lyrics were written by Michael some not. Does it make any difference to the subject we discuss here?
“One more chance” lyrics were not written by Michael as far as I know. I do not think it matters? Just saying... .
What about the song "You are not alone?" The song was not written by MJ? Right? But the lyrics are very beautiful.
We missed "Remember the time" Anybody has a clue was he happy that time? I love this song..... .
Ok ladies, let me put my 2 coins what I hear cus it is an interesting subject to discuss:
This is it, I can say
I’m the light of your world, gone away (? run away)
Make it feel , this is real
Every time I’m in love that I feel
I do not hear “They don’t feel it” in the last line and I do not hear “gonna make” either.
I the second line I am almost sure that it is Gone Away. Does it make sense ? No?
He mispronounces many letters and “that I feel” could be easy “that’s I feel”.
I too cannot understand a word of what he says....but it still a good song
