Yeah!! I love this song...and the "Little Mermaid". When she was 2, my little niece used to call it the "Little Wormaid"...we'd have to hook a harness on her so she wouldn't jump into the ocean every time we went sailing, cause she wanted to swim with the "Little Wormaid"..lol...I can see this fitting in with the Herstory story line...thanks Safira!

Yes I take the song out of it's context and put it into another context.

"look at this stuff isnt it neat" - it could be more than just trinkets. He's whole life. Everyone wants to be famous and rich. To have a big house and be on that stage.

Having all these things and living this life IS great, but ofcourse he's (and ariels :p) life is'nt complete if they can't live as "normal" people too sometimes. "I don't care, I want more".

And the similarities between this song and Human Nature comes in the chorus. Ariel is speaking of being part of the human world, Michael is speaking of being part of.. well sort of the same right? he wants to feel that freedom of being outside among the other people. Experiencing every part of life.

When I hear the bridge "what would I give if I could live out of these waters? what would I pay to spend a day warm on the sand?"
I'm thinkin of that video from Michael's privat shopping spree in a supermarket that he rented for a day. He was telling that he really wanted to try to do "normal" stuff like that. Just for one time at least.

Theres always a statement in these songs. A deeper story than just that of a mermaid who collects trinkets.

And we can actually also connect this song with the theory of this thread. Ariel wants to walk on the land for more than freedom. She wants to be with the man that she loves..
In this thread we have many theories about Michaels "one and only".
And the love story could fit into this too, in one way or another.

He can't be with her because she's "up on the land".

I think Michael has this feeling of having it all and, at the same time, having nothing. Just because he has nothing that really matters. Not now, of course, because now he has his kids... a family. Things may have changed... But before...

Imagine how hard it may be to have everything everyone desires and yet, feel empty inside because you don't have real friends, you don't have a true love, you don't have any freedom at all.. And, what is worse, be misunderstood, because everyone in the world thinks you're crazy for complaining about not being able to go to the supermakert!

Michael may live with this conflict, of being someone that almost everybody envy and at the same time be the one who envy almost everybody, do you know what I mean?

Imagine how it must feel to cry because you want to go on the street put your garbage out like anybody else? It makes no sense at all and yet it's so true...

I think that's why Michael feels so lonely... Because I think lonelyness is not about being alone, but about feelin that you not fit in the world you live... feeling that you don't belong there...

Sometimes Michael must feel like an ET or something... Because he's differente. At least, that's what the world claims. But the truth is that he's just like us, he has a heart and he has his feelings... And he fits perfectly in this world just like any one of us. He just has to find it out. :)

That was funny...we had to not only put a harness on her, but make sure the rope wasn't too too long...cause she was ready to swim with the Wormaid. She was serious too. She killed me back then...ooh that little face saying that....it was hysterical.

I just loved everything you wrote. Very real and very deep for your words. I imagine how Michael must feel by not being able to do all the normal things that we "anonymous people" do. Michael is like us, it is people like us. He can not dare to want to leave the street alone, he can not go to the supermarket, he can not get out there driving your car to take their children to walk, he can not walk the streets with their children and so many other things I'm sure Michael is interested to do and can not do ... that he is a celebrity, the most famous man on the planet. Sometimes this is a prison, why you do not have total freedom that every corner in every corner or up on top of the wall of his house, for sure will have a paparazzi and a journalist to get ready to hold its prey. It is the bad side, the good side is that Michael knows how much he is loved by millions of fans around the world and believe that for him surpasses anything that he knows how true love of his fans. Michael knows that is never alone in this world, his fans will always be there as always been with him for many years. :wub:​

Ape, it's really nice that this thread had opened some space for us to discuss how Michael feels about life, not only about love. I think that if we wish to understand how someone loves, we have to understand how this one lives. After all, it's two parts of the same thing: a whole person. :)

Only us fans understand Michael. Only we understand what he feels, but we understand what he thinks and his words. And like you I hate when I see something negative about him in the press or when someone talks about something bad about him. That makes me so sad and sometimes do not understand why the human being is this: judging, criticizing and speaking ill of something you do not know. Michael is a human being has a heart, has feelings and has to be respected. Some people speak of him as if he were from another planet and a weird guy. Michael is a wonderful human being and I love him the way he is...​

Just wanted to let you guys know that I have been lovin' all of your posts even though I haven't been keeping up with commenting on each one individually. I really love all of the insight in this thread! You guys are goooooood! Or, maybe on this board I should say "bad" really, really bad!:D

I just couldn't imagine living my life like that....to see outside and know that I have to take a whole contingent of people with me to go to a simple place like a grocery store, or clothes shopping. It must be pretty hard for him. I know MJ knows just how loved he is by millions, but sometimes there's a down-side to all of that love...the lack of privacy.

It's all for the heart felt love that this one man can bring to all The Gals fans here.In many love songs, he can really make your heart skip and make you wonder who he's singing about.We may never know who it is but hey all of us gals would want it to be about us. LOL...
I still think in my mind that it might be a gal he met at some function from afar years ago or who had written to him and in a song he's was trying to communicate to her in song by putting a big grin on her face . If it was me ,I'd be fainting now but I'd be cool about it first then I'll faint. LOL... I just hope that wherever he is at this moment ,that He's happy because he knows that all The fans love him and as long as he knows that, all the feelings will be felt by him in his soul. Renata, what you just said reminds me of when MJ said the following while sitting at the top of his ferris wheel during an interview at Neverland. I seems like he said this before he became a father.

MJ: "Do you know how much time I spend up here alone, just sitting up here by myself? I have all of this, yet I have...nothing. The things I really want in my life are the things I don't have. The only thing that matters in life is having someone who understands you, who trusts you and who will be with you when you grow old, no matter what."

Hi, mjroxworld! Nice to see ya! And yep! It's gotten pretty darn interesting!

A new member named MimiK *waving to MimiK* wanted to see what we would come up with while interpreting all of MJ's love songs starting from "Off The Wall" on up to "Thriller 25" and now, as you can see, the songs are forming a very interesting picture. There are also soundtracks being found by members here to give his new lady friend a voice!

We will soon go into the "Dangerous" era...

I've been busy looking for songs and lyrics to post for Part III, and this time I had to put on some scubba gear!! Mike was really getting into some deep thoughts while he was recording songs for the "Dangerous" album. He was becoming heartbroken during this time.

It was also during this era that he started asking God to step in.

From looking at the way that MJ had started singing about marriage proposals during the "Bad" era, I am really beginning to think that he had started his search for a wife during that time.

Yes, sometimes it is a prison that you can not do what is just or you will not be a "normal person" who tries to have a normal life like anybody else. And this is the price that you pay for being so famous: not having privacy. This happens with all the celebrities who are famous. But after so long, now Michael knows how to deal with that, although the times are very sad for him can not be free, can not be a normal person.​

Well remembered. I remember that interview and is one of my favorites. Michael said everything perfectly and I think today those words are still valid.​

Actually, MJ acts a lot more normal than those that lurk in bushes and trees to take pictures of him. MJ is a professional recording artists that goes to the recording studio to record his music, dance studio to create his dance routines, goes home to take care of his children, hang out with friends and so forth. Those that are lurking in bushes and trees are acting like they have lost their minds. The things the papps do sometimes are really, really odd.

I agree with you. Actually they (paparazzi) do everything to get pictures of Michael and especially for their children. And support for the Michael want to keep the privacy of their children, protect them from harassment and despair of the paparazzi to get a picture of them, for they want to have a normal life like any other child and many people do not understand it and some think that atitute bizarre. Many people comment that to me always and always argue in favor of Michael. They are children and are not celebrities. The celebrity there is Michael. It is so difficult for people to understand?​
