Did MJ Find Love In The Dark (continued)

Thank you Renata :) I hadn't heard that. I always hear the quote "I don't sing it if I don't mean it" (though I may have messed up his quote) that he said when he was just a child. It must mean something to him if it keeps coming up. that idea.. but to what extent I guess we don't know.

Safira (I always want to say Shakira..lol) I like your poem, it could suit this thread too. :) Who is it to?

thank you! it's for Michael ofcourse =)

Mysterious Phoenix, that fits perfectly with the story of what I saw in the music. I love that song. American Tail was pretty popular when I was growing up. I know I'm not the only one who sang along to that song :) It's sweet.

Here is another one that was brought up in the original DMJFLITD thread (lol what a mouthful). I still haven't seen "The Music Man" but that is where this is from.

EDIT: (HOW do you embed these youtube things so that people don't have to click the link?ok I figured it out for now. But there must be an easier way so question still stands)
Another song about exactly that. Someone being out there for you, and acknowledging them through song or prayer though you don't know who they are.

So perhaps MJ just sings the songs of a dream of someone like these songs. I wonder if it is just because it is a beautiful love song and idea, and many people will relate to it, or if they are more than just words to him.

the lyrics (I still can't figure out embedding yet)

Goodnight My Someone

by Meredith Willson
From "The Music Man"
As sung by Shirley Jones, 1962 Warner Bros. Records Inc.

Goodnight, my someone, goodnight, my love.
Sleep tight, my someone, sleep tight, my love.
Our star is shining its brightest light,
For goodnight, my love, for goodnight.

Sweet dreams be yours, dear, if dreams there be
Sweet dreams to carry you close to me.
I wish they may and I wish they might.
Now goodnight, my someone, goodnight.

True love can be whispered from heart to heart,
When lovers are parted they say.
But I must depend on a wish and a star
As long as my heart doesn't know who you are.

Sweet dreams be yours, dear, if dreams there be
Sweet dreams to carry you close to me.
I wish they may and I wish they might.
Now goodnight, my someone, goodnight.

Goodnight! Goodnight!
Ape, thanks for bringing that song to my attention! I had seen "The Music Man" but I don't remember hearing that song. It is very much like "Somewhere Out There" and, if you notice, there is that whole concept of "wishing on stars" again. I guess when two people can't be together, there's nothing else they can do.

I'm thinking here about "Speechless"...

In this song, Michael seems to have found his love, but it's like they're only together in his dreams... Especially when he sings "though I'm with you, I'm far away and nothing is for real".

Seems that he follows the same line of the songs MP and Ape brought here.. Like lovers could meet in dreams before they actually know each other.

I agree. They fit in quite well. I am the opposite MP, I used to sing the song to my kids when I put them to bed (sometimes still to the youngest, I guess the older ones have outgrown it..lol.) but I never knew where it came from. I had heard it on a tape of children's music when my youngest was a baby and I think I remember it from before, but can't remember where. I didn't know it was on that movie (which coincidentally someone told me is set in Gary Indiana) and I didn't know the one verse.

I guess it is a common theme to wish on stars for a loved one. Probably for a variety of reasons. Romance, astrology, God is up there (lol that's what I used to think when I was little), that the same star can be seen from two people so far away from each other on earth, the mystery, the feeling of something out there other than ourselves... etc...

Renata yes, and I know it seems fantastical and impossible, but there have been studies about people who share a common dream. They have studied the possibility of it. Probably something to do with brain waves or something? I don't know. I know we don't understand even a fraction of the mysteries and miracles out there yet and doubt we ever will, but sometimes there is something in believing.

That Michael Jackson was sending out you mean? So that every woman feels like she was made for him..lol? ..and that is why all the women fall in love with him (and some men too)?

I love this song. Michael's voice is wonderful. It is a ballad of love. Yes, Michael found his love in "speechless", but they are together only by thought.:(

Ohhhhhhhh.. hmmm veeeerrry interesting. You could be right I suppose. Do you see any examples that seem like that? That would be pretty cool hey?

Ashtanga : You say that as if fact. Can I ask you how you know?

Yes some of his songs but not all of them.

I can see that too Poe, though some parts of it seem to not line up with that "if God is on my side" you would think he would say "you" instead of "God" but maybe he wanted to make it clear he meant God and not someone else, and "when I'm with you I am far away" if about God, does he just feel far away sometimes? If God is everywhere, then he is always close.

Yeah, maybe it's God he's talking about in Speechless..

But maybe he's talking a love wich is so pure that would certainly be blessed by God.

Ape, about what you said about dreams... Some people say that dreams are like as if our souls were tripping outside our bodies. If it was true, than maybe when two people share the same dream, it's because their souls met somewhere.

Wow! And you do not fall by as Michael? LOL! Not good, nobody resists the charms and magic of Michael. Everyone falls in love with him!

Yes speechless is a romantic song but thats not what inspired it

reading through the lyrics for Speechless once again I actually think that you're absolutely right! This song is inspired by the way Michael feels when he's "with god". Or rather when god is with him when he's praying.

"My head's spinning like a carousel, so silently I pray"
and
"When I'm with you I am in the light where I cannot be found "

yes yes I got the point now :p

But the outcome of the song is still like a love song. It's inspired by he's love for god, but it's written so it sounds like it's for a woman. To make it more normal and easy to grasp I suppose.

It was created after he had a water balloon
fight with some kids in Germany. He went right
upstairs and sat down after being overwhelmed
with happiness. But its a very loving song I agree

That was MJ's "Version 1" about what inspired it. "Version 2" is that he was up on a tree in Germany looking down through the branches at some kids playing and that inspired him. Go figure. I rather not think about what inspired that song, because it "kills" the song for me if it's about kids. The lyrics are so romantic, so I wanna think about it as a love song, not as an "ode to kids". But that's just me.

well that last version could be sort of a picture of how he felt about the situation. Mark you that both the versions was in Germany and involved kids that played together.

Hmm so according to what poe is saying it's really just a song reflecting love and happiness!
*sigh* thats a good theme! :)

Well, if it was inspired by kids, certainly he's talking about God, since he said that he sees God in children's faces...

But I think, like Ape said, he figures a way to turn every song into a love song, so we can feel like it's written for us and feel loved by him...

I don't think he's manipulative with he's songs like that..
As a little cute Michael once said - "I don't sing it if I don't meen it.."

But maybe he likes to please us silly women a little with he's love songs
