Re: Batman: The Dark Knight [All threads merged]

Actually, "The Dark Knight" was his last COMPLETED film, he will be in another film, next year, but it was a film he didn't finish, and his part is going to be acted by multiple actors (like in the film, "I'm Not Here"), they're going to have other actors playing the same character as Heath at different points in the characters Life I think, like in the film "I'm Not Here" . They are not cutting him from that movie. The director of the film said he wont cut Heath out. The movie is called, "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus." He plays Tony in the film.

It's sad because there wont be another completed work by Heath, but he will be in another movie.

Oh and Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell are suppose to be the actors playing Tony along side Heath in the movie.

Just FYI.
Director Terry Gilliam, now in post-production on THE IMAGINARIUM OF DOCTOR PARNASSUS, Heath Ledger's final film, was interviewed recently at the Ischia Film Festival. Gilliam had high praise for Ledger, calling him "a genius." He also complimented the three actors--Johnny Depp , Jude Law, and Colin Farrell--who stepped in to complete Ledger's role in PARNASSUS after his untimely death last January:

TERRY GILLIAM: The great thing about it is that when Heath died, and we have a character that wasn't finished in the movie, those three actors [Johnny Depp , Jude Law, and Colin Farrell] came along and saved the day. And so the character is now basically four actors creating one character. And that's . . . it's very interesting, and maybe even more interesting than it would have been with one actor going all the way through. I'm still not the best judge, because I have in my head what the film was going to be with Heath all the way through, and now there's a different film there. But all I know is, it's very funny.

Gilliam sounded proud of his film and genuinely awed by the generosity of the actors who came forward to save the picture and ensure its completion. Despite their high profiles, Depp, Law, and Farrell took no compensation for their work; instead, they donated their salaries to Heath Ledger's two-year-old daughter, Matilda:

TERRY GILLIAM: The three actors were totally heroic coming in. This doesn't happen very often . . . where there's a tragedy like this, and very famous, very successful actors suddenly say, "Okay, we'll do whatever it takes to help." They came; they did the work; they allowed the movie to be finished; they didn't take money--the money goes to Heath's daughter. That's extraordinary! And wonderful . . . and when you're part of that, you think, "Ah, this is maybe why I went into the movies, in the beginning. I thought it would be full of wonderful people. And in our case, we've got a movie full of wonderful people, who did extraordinary things to help.

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight [All threads merged]

i saw this a day after it came out
Completely phenomenol film all around and I don't even really like action or superhero movies.

Heath just stole the show. He totally transformed himself into another being unlike Jack Nicholson who although was amazing was just kinda playing himself. Heath was frightening and morbidly funny. it was just perfect. I even had a nightmare about the Joker the night after i saw it. it was that he flew a blimp into the building next door and it just exploded in flames. He was like riding on top of the blimp actually and jumped off right before it hit the building and he was laughing manically. I think he was using the blimp instead of a plane or something like that to be funny. It was a really crazy dream lol

I got to the theater, got the tickets and went towards the theater that it was playing about 40 minutes early and there was already a huge line forming outside just for people to get seated. The audience in there was amazing. They clapped as soon as Heath finished his first big scene in the movie.

I hope Heath is at least nominated for the Oscar. it's one of the best performances i've seen in a really long time.

I think it's definitely gonna break Titanic's record.

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight [All threads merged]

can't wait, i'm gonna see it again this weekend too

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight [All threads merged]

I could never get behind the whole "I'm going to watch it in theater multiple times" thing lol. I always see it as a missed opportunity to see a new story. Like Step Brothers last time I went to the movies, which was funny as hell.

But, I think I'd want to see Dark Knight in IMAX, so I might go for that some time while it's still out.

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight [All threads merged]

^ A movie REALLY has to make an impression on me in order for me to see it multiple times. Like "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" LOVED that movie and saw it 13 times. I've LOVED "The Dark Knight" and have seen it six times so far. I intend to see it again as well...I don't just go and see any movie over and over, it REALLY has to make its mark on me, and "The Dark Knight" certainly has. It's one of my three favorite films EVER.

It's well worth seeing it in IMAX. It's well worth it. You'll enjoy it when you go.

The Truth About Those Dark Knight Sequel Casting Rumors

darkknightsetnolan.jpg
Since The Dark Knight is headed to become the second biggest grossing film of all time (domestically), rumors have already begun as to what villains will be featured in the enevitable sequel. The latest from the rumor mill has Johnny Depp as The Riddler, Angelina Jolie as The Catwoman, and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin. Oh my!
Wouldn’t Johnny Depp make a great Riddler? Yeah, BUT the truth of the matter is that Christopher Nolan has not yet signed on for a third Batman film. His brother and screenwriter Jonathan Nolan is supposedly still on the set doing work for Terminator Salvation. And who knows what David Goyer is up to. Even if he is busy penning a treatment, which is doubtful, I’m confident that casting talks won’t take place for quite some time. Nolan is also the type of guy to cast a role only when he has a script in hand. So I’m sure we won’t hear any casting announcements any time soon. But also take note that none of the actors who have played villains thus far were considered A-listers. And by that I mean, none of them alone could (at least, at the time) open a big blockbuster movie.

As to which villains will be featured in the next Batman film?
Goyer recently told MTV that Chris has decided on a theme for a potential third film. And anyone who has seen either of Nolan’s Batman films know that the theme is inexorably tied to the villain. And while I can easily imagine someone like The Riddler in the Nolanverse, turned into a serial killer who leaves clues behind. I can’t quite imagine a theme based on The Riddler, which would effect Bruce Wayne. And the same could be said for many of the prominent characters in the Batman franchise.
And remember, Goyer and Nolan told us that with 70 years of Batman history, they are more interested in some of the “dozens if not hundreds of other characters” that “had not been in the movies before, and had not been in the sixties TV show before.” My guess is that the villain might not be anyone we expect.

I'm kinda hoping Johnny doesn't do that role, if offered. I just liked the idea of him being indie rather than blockbuster...like he is now. But I guess those days are long gone with the success of Pirates and his latest films...

In other news...the Dark Knight's IMDB rating has dropped but still remains #1. It's funny how TDK and The Godfather fans are at war with this. Godfather even dropped to #3.

I'd rather David Tennet to play the Riddler than Depp. Even though I love Depp as an actor. I just see Tennet fitting the role better and playing a creepier Riddler. Apparently he's expressed interest in the part. But I'm not completely against Depp playing the part. The more I imagine him as the Riddler the more fond I become of the idea. Just as long as they stay far away from the camp spandex-wearing Riddler as portrayed by Jim Carrey in Batman Forever. I mean, he did a good job playing the Riddler for the kind of film Batman Forever was. A typical blockbuster movie that the whole family can enjoy. As opposed to Nolan's Batman films which are much darker and aimed more towards an adult audience. I like the idea that been thrown around many a websites about the Riddler being more like Jigsaw from Saw. Obviously it can't be direct rip-off though. Still gotta keep it original or it wont have the same appeal that Ledger's Joker did.

Another welcome addition to the next Batman movie would be Harley Quinn. Even those Ledger's left us, the character of the Joker can still be in the next film. You don't even need to cast him. You can have a character in a film without ever showing their face or hearing their voice. I think the patient-doctor relationship between the Joker and Harley needs to be there. But that doesn't mean the Joker has to be seen or even heard. You can just allude to the fact that Harley Quinn is visiting the Joker in Arkham on a regular basis and carrying out his dirty work on the outside.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor will end the weekend well behind industry expectations with $42.5 million. This means once again, The Dark Knight is #1 at the box office with $44.8M, pushing the film’s domestic total to $395.88 million. The Dark Knight currently stands as the #8 biggest grossing film of all time domestically, and on Monday it is expected to overtake Spider-Man to become the biggest comic book movie adaptation of all time.
Steve Mason predicts a $480 million lifetime gross for the film, which would put it shy of Titanic’s $600 million record. But $480 million would be enough to overtake Star Wars for the #2 spot. To give you an idea, it took Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace 8 weeks to earn the same as The Dark Knight did in three. Other comparisons: It took Spider-Man 9 weeks, E.T. more than 52 weeks, and The Dark Knight has already outgrossed Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

In other news...the Dark Knight's IMDB rating has dropped but still remains #1. It's funny how TDK and The Godfather fans are at war with this. Godfather even dropped to #3.

IMDB has recently been hacked when it comes to TDK so I wouldnt hold to much faith in that right now.

Johnny can still do both lol. It's not like he excepted the Disney roll and settled to do the role 'cookie cutter'. That's why Jack sparrow's character was a hit...cuz JD put an interesting twist to it. Although i CAN'T see JD as the riddler...lol...i'm sure he can put that twist to it.

It's pretty rare for hero's an vilans in movies to be very believable when they are accomplished actors/actresses prior to the movie..

It' hard for people to imagine the guy from some specific large movies playing a fictional hero/vilan.. Not saying he/she could not pull off the role well.. It just minimizes the journey most peoples imagination can take it.

Same with horror films.. That is why they USUALLY get non well known actors/actresses as the primary characters in the film..

That's why most super hero and horror movies are actors/actresses 'break through movies'..

I know that's still one HELL of an accomplishment, but it'd still be a shame in my eyes if Titanic isn't overtaken. I just rewatched that movie yesterday, and it's terribly overrated. Cliche story/acting/romance that wouldn't be nearly as beloved if not for the setting, that Celion Dion song, and 12 year olds who want to marry Leonardo DiCaprio. God, that movie grinds my gears. Best part was when Jack died.

Id rather Depp play The Joker being that The Joker is still alive.
