Re: Batman: The Dark Knight [All threads merged]

Watch out Billy Zane! Fantasy Moguls reports that The Dark Knight is on track to gross $77 million this weekend—only a 50% drop from last weekend, the largest opening on record. If so, the film will have grossed $315 million by Monday, surpassing the total domestic grosses of both Iron Man and Lame Indiana Jones Sequel to become 2008’s toppity top movie in a mere 10 days. Indeed: that’s another record. Repeat viewings are holding steady. On IMDB, TDK remains the number one movie of all time after 125,000 votes by users. Surely including W’s?
In other news, Will Ferrell doesn’t have to grow up and clean out his belly button. Step Brothers, the R-rated Judd Apatow production co-starring John C. Reilly from The Tim and Eric Awesome Show, is likely to gross $30+ million this weekend. After watching The Joker blow out windows in the good name of anarchy, summer moviegoers will lap up some beer and coast out on a strong line-up of dirty comedies, continuing with Tropic Thunder and Pineapple Express. And less than $15 million worth of Americans care to see Mulder and Scully suck face and trek through snow alongside Xzibit. X FIles I Want to Believe is a mothball/bomb, and yes, we know that its budget was $30 million.

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight [All threads merged]

Haha. I hate X-Files. I'm glad it bombed, lol. Batman is the movie. Does Titanic hold the record for highest grossing film ever? If so, I hope Batman breaks that record, because I can't stand Titanic either.

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight [All threads merged]

^^ I tend to agree though ;)

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight [All threads merged]

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight [All threads merged]

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight [All threads merged]

I wonder when all is said in done how much BATMAN will make in box office..

What is the largest number in box office history thus far???

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight [All threads merged]

I liked Titanic, but COME ON "The Dark Knight" in only ten days has grossed over half of that, I have a feeling "The Dark Knight" is gonna take the cake on this one. I can feel it.

Titanic HASN'T GOT ANYTHING on "The Dark Knight".

Just watch guys...HIStory in the making...Is Making HIStory...

Thats domestic. Worldwide its closer to 1 billion. It showed in cinemas in some countries for almost a full year. My theory on why Titanic hasn't been beaten...the internet. Back when it was realeased it wasn't as easy to download movies. Now you can get a full movie with a few hours or less. The day after the Dark Knight was released in the states it began to appear online with almost 10,000 downloads in 24 hours!!!

I've been doing reading on the top 10 grossing films and its sad to see the lack of very recent films on the list. Its quite terrifying really because if things keep going the way they are now, there won't be a need for cinemas and I'll be out of a job :(

So people! Don't download movies, go to the cinema! I need to put food on the table :(

EDIT: List of Top 100 Grossing films of all time (worldwide)

Well, I saw it again last night, and I was so in awe of Heath Ledger's performance again that I had to write an article about him. It's short, so I'll post it here if anyone cares to read it. I'm just so impressed with him. He was what was great about the film, he was the reason I wanted to see it again. Here's what I wrote.

Until They’re Gone

Who in the audience actually cared about Batman or his crusade to rid Gotham city of its crime

Me. I basically agree with everything else, but the rest of the film is being downplayed by that remark. Otherwise I realize that your article was mostly for Heath Ledger, and is accurate in describing his performance. Heath was obviously the break-out star, but the story and cast overall were great. From the fall of Harvey Dent to Batman establishing himself as essentially the anti-Superman. And yes, Joker's one loss was in fact inspiring, even though he won basically everything else. "What were you trying to prove; that everyone is as ugly as you are?"

yeah i cared about batman too. And towards the climax of the movie i even was feeling for Harvey Dent as well and he also became more likable as the movie went on. Again i agree with GMs, u were devoting the article to Heath, but the rest of the movie and actors were also very good...and IMO, were casted perfectly. Bale made a very good batman and i believed him as the batman.

Everything about this film is pure perfection. Enough said. LOL!

Everytime I hear Gary Oldman's closing speech and hear that music I always have to stop myself from jumping up in my seat and yelling "YEAH!!!" like I just scored a bleedin' touch down. The film and actors were great, but for me and for many others it was Heath that put it over the top. The Joker owned it.

And am I alone when I say "THANK GOD they got Maggie G. to play Rachel instead of Katie "I couldn't act my out of a paper bag" Holmes"?

I'm going to see the movie again today for the fifth time! **squees** **does happy dance**

Maggie was the next best thing in the film. She's a fantastic actress, one of the best around. I recommend every to see a film she was in called "Sherri Baby" if you haven't. Michael Cain was awesome too.

The film was good, it's just, Heath Ledger made it special.

WORD!

I just got in from seeing it again, and I cried at the end. Heath again blew me away and I loved every second of it.

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight [All threads merged]

great article wbss, a great tribute to Heath, and everyword was true. Although I enjoyed the movie overall, I think Heath made it extra special because he played the character so well.

I'm sick of hearing people say "people only like the movie/joker 'cause Heath is dead", Its just ignorance. These are usually people who haven't seen the performance. It is by far one of the best I have seen in a long time

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight [All threads merged]

As for July 27:
TOTAL LIFETIME GROSSES
Domestic: $313,781,677 71.0%
+ Foreign: $128,300,000 29.0%
= Worldwide: $442,081,677

In release: 10 days

Wow it's broken records left and right :wild:

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight [All threads merged]

well Wes, i know a dozen people who ONLY went to see the movie b/c of the buzz and there's an added buzz b/c of his death, u have to admit that.

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight [All threads merged]

I cared about batman too. Bale's portrayal was the first batman in a live action film to kind of frighten me.

What I said wasn't meant as a critisism of the film guys or of the messege in the film, it was only said so as to highlight just how amazing Heath's portrayle of the Joker was, in my view.

I saw it last night and I thought it was a good movie, long but good. Mr. Ledger's character, the Joker was excellent!!! Now I'm going to see it at the IMAX theatre on Friday.

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight [All threads merged]

I saw this film yesterday and I think it's really good and I hardly ever like action/super hero films. Heath Ledger's performance was amazing. I felt really sad when it ended knowing that I won't see him in another film. I thought I could taste blood all the way through though lol because of how the joker kept licking his lips. I thought the film was really scary throughout. I was on the edge of my seat all the way through and I just can't believe the film was rated a 12A. I think if i saw this when I was 10 I would be having nightmares afterwards lol but maybe that's because I'm also scared by clowns-so the joker and his friends freak me out to start with. The Joker is my favourite villain now. I'd buy this film on dvd but it was just a little slow starting imo. Would recommend it. It isn't just hype.

Spoiler:
I jumped when that batman dummy was hanging in the window. I jumped when the joker turned round at the funeral. I jumped when he turned round in the hospital. The scenes in the hospital were genius. The man on the criminal ferry who threw the detonator in the water reminded me of the man in the Green Mile. I thought the scene were the joker was in prison was hilarious when he kept asking for his phonecall.

Actually, "The Dark Knight" was his last COMPLETED film, he will be in another film, next year, but it was a film he didn't finish, and his part is going to be acted by multiple actors (like in the film, "I'm Not Here"), they're going to have other actors playing the same character as Heath at different points in the characters Life I think, like in the film "I'm Not Here" . They are not cutting him from that movie. The director of the film said he wont cut Heath out. The movie is called, "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus." He plays Tony in the film.

It's sad because there wont be another completed work by Heath, but he will be in another movie.

Oh and Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell are suppose to be the actors playing Tony along side Heath in the movie.

Just FYI.

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight [All threads merged]

So tell me people.. how come they don't show Batman that much in the trailer. I see the Joker alot more.. Is Christian Bale still playing Batman?

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight [All threads merged]

Yeah, Christian plays Batman. He's good. But Heath was so incredible that you basically don't notice Christian. At least, for me, that's what happened.
