^ OMG that Joker looks so much scarier.

I decided that I have to get the dvd. :mello:

Heath Ledger’s Joker — no question it was an amazing performance. And if he were still with us, we could ask him about his various inspirations: what did he watch, what did he read, what did he observe, how did he inhabit his character? Well, one of the clues he left us was his Joker diary, which he kept four a months before shooting.
In it, there’s a list of what would make the Joker laugh – including AIDS, landmines, geniuses suffering irreversible brain damage, brunch, and sombreros. “It gave me this chill,” Grant Morrison said, because it was word-for-word what Morrison had written in one of his Batman stories.

“There’s a Batman [Batman #663, “The Clown at Midnight”] that I did last year that hardly anyone read,” Morrison said.

As a response to his own “Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth,” Morrison had continued his themes of the duality of Joker and the Batman in “The Clown at Midnight.” Having established with “Arkham” that the Joker had a sort of “super-sanity” and that he shifted between personalities,” Morrison explored the idea further in “The Clown at Midnight,” by showing that each time the Joker escaped, one of those new personalities would emerge.

“It’s a really good story,” Morrison said, “but because it was prose, people didn’t want to read it.”

Except, apparently, Heath, who saw Morrison’s list and put it in his Joker diary. “He actually had a whole list — blind babies, doctors, accidents — really horrible stuff,” Morrison said. “Heath wrote it all down. So yeah, I can see there’s a lot of [‘Arkham’ and ‘Midnight’] in his Joker.”

The filmmakers have taken great pains to acknowledge the original comics they drew from, Morrison pointed out. With those shout-outs, sales for the originals have skyrocketed – not just for “Arkham,” but also Alan Moore’s “The Killing Joke,” Frank Miller’s “Year One” and “Dark Knight Returns,” and Jeph Loeb’s “Long Halloween.”

“David Goyer has said they owe a debt to us,” Morrison said. “And it’s really easy to see our influence. But at the same time, they also created something quite new and extraordinary.”

With THE DARK KNIGHT still kicking MAJOR box office ass right now, people everywhere are wanting to know about “The next one.” Will there be another BATMAN? Who will be the villain? Will Chris Nolan even return for a third one? Those are among the many Bat-questions on everyone’s minds, so let talk a little about “BATMAN 3.”
c-nolan_TDK_official1.jpg

“I don’t know what I’d do with another [Batman movie], or what might happen next,” Chris told us. “I felt in doing THE DARK KNIGHT that it would be a big mistake on our part to hold anything back for future films. We put everything you can into this movie to make it as great as it can be.”
Nolan is notorious for playing things close to the vest when it comes to Batman sequels. He was coy and kept mum after BATMAN BEGINS and he’s doing it now in the wake of THE DARK KNIGHT.
I totally believe Chris when he says he doesn’t know if he’s going to do another one and you should as well. It takes nearly two years to produce a BATMAN film and I’m sure it takes a lot of out of the man. I’m positive that he needs time away from Gotham City to recharge his Bat-batteries.
When it’s all said and done, I personally believe (Hope?) that Chris Nolan will decide in favor of one more go around and will sign on for a third -- and probably final BATMAN. For this creative team at least.
Gary Oldman -- who plays Commissioner Gordon in these Bat-Films -- said it best I believe about a second sequel and the prospects of Nolan directing it. “I do think that there will be a third one, yeah. And I think that Chris will do a third," predicted Oldman. He continued, “I’m pretty much convinced -- it’s his baby, you know? He’s not going to give his baby up.”
While Chris Nolan may need a little time off and some convincing to return for a third BATMAN, that’s not necessarily the case with everyone else.
bale-showest08.jpg

Batman himself, Christian Bale, has stated several times that he gladly put on the cape and cowl again. “I would -- knowing the story of THE DARK KNIGHT -- I would like very much to complete a trilogy,” Bale said about a potential sequel in April of ’08 at ShoWest. “THE DARK KNIGHTleaves you anticipating something that really can get very, very interesting for a third.”
As we all now know, THE DARK KNIGHT ends with the death of Harvey Dent who has murdered five people after being scarred and becoming “Two Face.” The Batman tells Gordon that he’ll take the blame for Harvey’s crimes so the people of Gotham can continue to look up to the now deceased “White Knight.” As a result, The Dark Knight is essentially on the run from the police for crimes he didn’t commit; he also harbors a great deal of guilt for what happened to Harvey and due to the death of of his lifelong friend, Rachel Dawes.

But what will it take for Bale to see his wish of a third film to come to fruition? “It is completely in the hands of Chris Nolan,” he told me in June at the TDK press junket. “I can’t imagine doing [another BATMAN] without Chris. I don’t even want to consider that because he’s created this. All of this is his.”

goyer_nolan.jpg

Says Goyer, “I think Warner Bros would like to do another one.” I’m sure they do with TDK sitting at over $400 million at the box office since its release 3 weeks -- give or take -- ago. “It wasn’t until three or four months after the first one [BATMAN BEGINS] that Chris called and suggested we talk about another one. It was a scary proposition trying to do this one [THE DARK KNIGHT], and it’s a similar scary proposition to try to do another one.”
Regardless of how “scary” it is, Goyer is on record saying that at least some talk about a third has gone on. “We’ve only talked loosely about it, Chris and I,” Goyer told MTV recently. He continued “I have [a theme and villain], but I’m not going to tell you. Chris is very particular about that.”
But just like Christian Bale, Jonah Nolan told me that another BATMAN -- with THIS team -- is up to one person. “It’s all up to Chris.”
OK, let’s assume that Bale, Goyer, and Jonah Nolan convince C-Nol that there IS a fantastic story to be told that warrants a third BATMAN. Who is going to be the “Batman Villain?”
Well, I think you can rule out The Joker. I don’t not believe that we’ll see The Joker in any form or fashion in the next film. I am now of the belief that once they came up with the story that ultimately became TDK, the filmmakers never intended to bring him back. The Batman's battle with The Joker is never-ending anyway. As The Joker in TDK said, "I have a feeling we'll be doing this forever."
And frankly, I think after the performance that Heath Ledger gave, it’d be on the semi-disrespectful side to recast for the very next film.
Plus, who in the hell would want to follow Heath now?!
I’d also scratch Two Face off the list as well. For one thing, he’s dead and I don’t think that Nolan’s into zombie films.
Is the ending of TDK ambiguous enough to realistically bring back Two Face? Sorta. But doing so opens up a huge can of worms plot-wise in my opinion. Chris Nolan, David Goyer, and Jonah Nolan’s THE DARK KNIGHT has Two Face dying at the end. They've said as much and it's written as such in the script. I don’t see them “undying” him.
And listen to me here, OK? Eckhart's comments in which he said he'd love to come back mean NOTHING. He said that so that he wouldn't spoil anything for those who haven't seen it yet. Hell, Maggie Gyllenhaal has said the same thing -- you think she's coming back?!
According to David Goyer, don’t expect the expected. “You know the thing is with [BATMAN BEGINS], people would say ‘Who are you going to use? The Penguin, The Joker, The Riddler?” said Goyer. “These are the well known characters -- known principally from the TV show -- and guess what, we used Ra’s Al Ghul and The Scarecrow. Now they weren’t characters from the other films or the TV show but these were big characters from the comics. And there are a lot of big characters in the comics that haven’t been used -- comic book readers know who they are though.”

riddler-penguin-catwoman1.jpg

Will Nolan use one of these BIG Batman baddies? History says maybe not.

But they have to be realistic, right? Yes, says Goyer. “For us, it would be who could you take and depict in a realistic way and a realistic light.” Screenwriter Jonah Nolan added, “Yeah, this particular vision of Batman requires that and eliminates some of the choices -- you’re not going to see Clayface.”
The good thing is that Batman’s rogues gallery pretty much adheres to Nolan’s “realistic” mandate, so says Jonah Nolan. “Most [Batman villains] are very realistic. The rogues gallery is BIG and it’s DEEP -- that bench has a lot of depth. A lot of those characters feel as if they could fit into our ‘realistic’ world.”
batman-thedarkknight2.jpg

As far as any of the rumors that have been making the rounds of late -- Johnny Depp as The Riddler/Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin -- are BS. However, I will say that these two villains exist in the Nolanverse as "The Iceberg Lounge" and "Edward Nashton" were mentioned in THE GOTHAM TIMES.
Regardless, don't put much stock into any of these casting rumors right now. And I can guarantee it’s going to get NUTS! After TDK, every actor in Hollywood is going to want to be in the next Bat-film.
So there you have it, the current “status” -- if there even is one -- of BATMAN 3.
The key of course is getting Chris back for one more and if so, everything else will fall into place. Personally, my trust for this man and his team when it comes to Batman films is unequivocal. Hell, Warner Bros. could issue a press release saying that the villain for the next film is Crazy Quilt and I’d be down with it as long as Nolan’s directing.
When pray tell will we finally hear something official?
Well, going by what went down with THE DARK KNIGHT, I suspect that if Chris signs on for #3 sometime over the next year, the word will come down from Burbank during the Summer of 2009 -- probably around Comic Con in July.
Until then, just relax and enjoy all the rumors and hype because trust me, it’s going to be Bat-Crazy!

Looks like The Joker is running free in upstate New York. /Film reader Rob H came across this vandalized real estate billboard on Route 9 in Saratoga Springs, NY. Next thing you know, watch dog groups are going to be calling for a ban of the film, claiming it is a bad influence on the youth of America. Just remember folks - Guns don’t kill people, video games kill people. :p
That is CLASSIC.

Dark Knig rocked my socks!

Awesome movie y'all need to get down and see it!

According to early reports via HOLLYWOOD.COM, this bad boy is going to win the weekend box office for the 4th weekend in a row! Says the site's Steve Mason, "My sources are projecting $7.8M for the Caped Crusader vs. $7.65M for the Judd Apatow-produced stoner comedy [PINAPPLE EXPRESS on Friday]. The big news from this is that THE DARK KNIGHT will score a staggering fourth consecutive weekend win with something in the range of $26.52M compared to $22.95M or so for PINAPPLE EXPRESS."

I saw the movie today and i was really impressed with it. Heath Ledger did an amazing job as The Joker and it was the best postrial of The Joker that i have ever seen. It's my second favorite superhero movie of all time

Okay so hypothetically....what if I did something silly and...tried to do an impersonation of the Joker? Hypothetically what if I recorded it, just to be silly and posted it here...would ya'll be nice?

I dunno, I saw everyone on Youtube doing their best impersonations of the Joker and I thought i'd give a shot at it...I sound NOTHING like him, cuz I'm a girl & he's a guy with a deeper voice lol that's number one, and number two...I'm not an impersonator and number three...i just sound nothing like him  But I thought it would be fun and FUNNY...and for me it was  So hypothetically, would ya'll be nice? LOLOLOL It'll be great, hypothetically, if everyone else does their own too lol...hypothetically speaking lol

Actually the more I listen to it the more i think i sound more like the mayor from Ghosts rather than the Joker

Many people predicted that it wouldn’t happen, but The Dark Knight won its fourth straight weekend, taking in $26 million, compared to Pineapple Express‘ estimated $22.5 million. The last film to accomplish this feat was 2003’s Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. In less than a month, the Batman Begins sequel has grossed $441.5 million domestically, making it the third highest grossing film of all time (before inflation of course), knowing Shrek 2 from the throne. The only two films which have made more money domestically (before inflation) are Star Wars and Titanic.
The Dark Knight will likely top Star Wars’ $460.9 million in the coming weeks. And while unlikely, box office analysts aren’t counting the film out of the all-time race tp $600 million. The film has also grossed $263 million overseas, for a worldwide total of $704.6 million. To give you some perspective, The Dark Knight just surpassed Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, Forrest Gump and The Sixth Sense on the worldwide chart.

Re: Batman: The Dark Knight [All threads merged]

Yeah, Christian plays Batman. He's good. But Heath was so incredible that you basically don't notice Christian. At least, for me, that's what happened.

Everyone was exceptional in this film. It's hard to not notice anyone, even the minor roles had something to add here.

IMDB Watch: The Dark Knight Gets Dethroned

After 24 days at the top, The Dark Knight has been dethroned at the #1 ranked movie on the Internet Movie Database’s top 250 films of all time list. The Christopher Nolan Batman sequel is now placed #3 on the list.
Interesting to note: The Shawshank Redemption comes out the victor in this contest of internet fandom. A couple weeks ago The Godfather fell to the #3 spot when, presumably, Dark Knight fans began voting down the Francis Ford Coppola gangster film. The result is that Shawshank now sits in the top position, and Godfather places second.
It’s also worth noting that all three films have a weighted 9.1 average user rating. Dark Knight still has more life theatrically and could easily rise or sink further on the list as more moviegoers see the film.

It's in German, but heres some info on the international THE DARK KNIGHT DVD including some images:

The late Heath Ledger stars in The Dark Knight. The Warner Brothers-produced
film has broken records in the States

12 August 2008
Dark Knight is third-biggest film in US history

The latest instalment in the Batman series, which stars Christian Bale and the late Heath Ledger, sits atop the American charts for the fourth successive week after taking another $26.1m (£13.7m) at the weekend.

The widely acclaimed film, which has attracted controversy in Britain for its being awarded a 12A certificate despite containing depictions of graphic violence, is the first to enjoy a month-long stint in the American top slot since The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King in late 2003.

The latest haul by the film, which was directed by Christopher Nolan, also means it has now grossed a total of $441.5m (£232m) in the US, putting it behind only Titanic - $601m (£316m) - and the original Star Wars - $461m (£242m) - in the US all-time top ten.

The Warner Brothers-produced film has already broken records in the States, including the best opening ($18.4m/£9.6m) and second ($75.2m/£39.6m) weekends.

While the film has enjoyed huge success in the UK, it has not broken records. Before the weekend it had grossed £25.4m in total, having held the top spot in the box office charts for its first two weeks on release.

It fell short of the UK's biggest ever opening weekend earner, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which took more than £23.8m in its first weekend in May 2004. It also has some way to go to match the UK's all-time biggest grossing film, also Titanic, which took £69m in 1998.

What's so wickedly cool about the movie is that unlike most other 2 hr. and 30 something movies you are aware it's long but at the same time you don't care and find yourself not wanting it to end because it's just soooooooo good. After having sat through it seven times in the theatre with plans on seeing it again before the week in out, I can honestly say I AM SUPER SIKED to be seeing it again. I even cried again while watching it.

** in sing song voice** LOVED IT!

That's true!

I had tears in my eyes too in a part of it, and it wasn't when Harvey or Rachel died  :D

Warner Bros. Believes 'Dark Knight' Won't Catch 'Titanic':
batman_tdk_poster.jpg

'The Dark Knight' continues to rack up the dollars at the box office Warner Bros. says they don't expect the movie to catch 'Titanic', the biggest box office hit of all-time.
The Batman sequel has earned a whopping $442 million so far domestically, but Warner Bros. says that they expect the film to earn between $510 million to $520 million to sit in second place all-time.
It won't be long before it gets there, as it only needs another $19 million to take over the spot from the original 'Star Wars'. The movie earned $26 million last weekend. Warner boss Dan Fellman believes that 'Titanic' was "once in a lifetime" and we likely won't see another gross like it in the industry.
It's interesting that the studio makes this statement ahead of what will likely be the movie's first weekend out of first place. 'Tropic Thunder' opens Wednesday, and the comedy is expected to take over the top following the weekend, despite disabilities groups' calls to boycott the movie.

Though the movie could have cut out roughly 20 minutes and still been a great movie.. People need to relise that a 2.5 hour movie is not THAT long anymore.. lol!!

Before the average length movie was roughly 90 minutes. Now it's 100-125 minutes.. So seeing a 150 minute movieis not TOO much longer that basically any other movie you would see in the theatres.

Yes they did not NEED to make it 150 minutes, but the extra 30 minutes dedicated to a film for the quality is worth it.. take 30 minutes extra for a extra special movie..

I'm not saying it WILL be your favorite.. But I doubt many people will come out disapointed.. It's either you'll think it's a good movie.. Yet not worth the HYPE (still not a waist of time though).. or it was an AWSOME movie..

Either way, you win..

This not a good week for fast food (is it ever?). While Burger King is dealing with a prized employee bathing in the friggin’ sink, Gotham’s Clown Prince is peddling Happy Meals at McDonald’s. We can foresee this rad fan-made image being a perennial poster favorite in spring break head shops and messy dorms. Good job. And thanks to Stradtler for the tip.

Former Tori Spelling deflowerer, turntable spinner and current Terminator TV star, Brian Austin Green, has thrown his hat (sideways baseball cap?) into the casting ring for Batman 3. B.A.G. was wowed by Heath Ledger’s performance in The Dark Knight and feels deep down he’s the right thespian to play The Riddler in the next installment
“I would love to be the Riddler,” Green told MTV in all seriousness. “I hope to God they don’t replace Heath and have the Joker [again]. So they need a new villain and The Riddler makes sense. …[My Riddler] would take years of preparation. It’s tough. Heath set the bar a new level.”
How do our readers feel about this? Put your love of 90210 aside and be honest. I mean, on one hand, fanboy favorite Johnny Depp could wash away Jim Carrey’s annoying red hair and green nylon body suit, but on the deformed other, Brian Austin Green made One Stop Carnival, one of the indisputable white rapper masterpieces of the ’90s. Riddle me this? How many babysitters had their beloved copies thrown into the woods? Plus, his name makes out with fate while he makes out with Megan Fox. Brian Austin Green, the actor, the question, the joke.
Discuss: B.A.G. for The Riddler? Megan Fox for Catwoman? Tori Spelling for Bane?

A fan made poster for a possible sequel to The Dark Knight. Seems like the artist, like most everyone I have talked to, wants The Riddler to attack Gotham City in the next film. But yes, it is just a fan creation (If the question mark didn’t give it away). But the rest of the poster is well done. I doubt they would use the title The Dark Knight Returns unless it was an adaptation of the Frank Miller graphic novel. I have heard that the next film might employ the cape crusader’s on screen nickname “The Batman” in the title. “The Return of The Batman” anyone? Click on the image below to enlarge.
