Will.I.Am said Mike Wanted Autotune!!

Yeah it's much like what "Sexual Healing" was. A one-take recording of it but there is a demo of it that's on the "Sexual Healing Sessions" album and one verse near the end was taken out of the final released product. Though the songs are definitely not similar, both that and "Billie Jean" were one-take recordings and were initially longer songs than what they were intending to be. "Billie Jean" was so great because MJ took his vocals to higher and lower levels of the song. It took the message home to people.

Right Timmy, that's it exactly.

I remember a little bit of auto-tune/T-Pain effect on 2000 Watts.

If MJ wanted the "T-Pain effect", I'm sure he would've done it in a pretty cool and unique way.

Yeah, generally speaking, Michael's vocals are super involved and rely heavily on his superb timing. He could make it work and I wouldnt even mind it on one track maybe, just as long as he doesn't do it on more then that.

I hope he doesn't release an album with using auto-tune on every song! Man i'll just cry! (Unless it sounds really good!)

AUTOTUNE WOULD'VE SOUNDED FABULOUS!
It sounds great on Kanye West's new song.
Speaking of which- imagine Michael singing to tao drums! :wild:

Look guys, just because Michael MAY, but probably won't, use it to some effect on a track or two doesn't mean he needs it or can't sing. Jezz. You KNOW he can. His voice is fine. It's just Michael wanting to experiment.

I really could care less. He'd probably be like Do-mo ari-ga-to mis-ter ro-bo-TO!!!

His vocals are too complex for that though.

He's already done it on tracks. 2000 Watts, Unbreakable and Threatened. He hasn't done it to the extent of T-Pain, but it's not as if he's a only singing into a mic and leaving it be at that. He likes altering the sound of instruments and his voice.

I'm pretty sure Daft Punk use both Auto-Tune and a Talk Box for different songs. It certainly sounds that way to me.

You can tell because with a talk box, the voice/lyrics aren't as clear cut and smooth as vocals from Auto-Tune.
This is because with Auto-Tune you're SINGING into a microphone, which leads to an audio engineering program (i.e ProTools) which then alters the voice through the plugin (i.e Auto-Tune). A talk-box has a more robotic sound as you're not actually singing properly. You have a tube in your mouth and you're basically moving your mouth/throat and keying the right notes for your desired lyric.

Here are some examples (I used user made videos as they show you how it's actually done):

No fuss. Pretty sure this form of sound engineering has been used in Michael's music before too...if it aids in bringing a good track , then so be it. It is most likely used to enhance a sound effect rather than in the T Pain kind of way...this is my feling and understanding michael's angelic voice! :)

I heard that Auto Tune was on certain Recording programs for the PC and some Mulitrack Recorders..For A Person who can't always stay on pitch. Michael for years had Seth to coach him but I guess when years pass, He could get off pitch sometimes .Like me when I record,I get off my pitch sometimes too.I've gotten older and I know there are some of us old folks that still have perfect pitch but sometimes we need alittle help too.I do wonder how many times he tried to use The Auto Tune before he decided not to use it and just rely on good old guts.I think it's amazing how Tony Bennett still has that forsetto. Like Roy Orbison and Luciano .

Autotune gets associated with tone deaf, talantless people, that's why some people freaked out. there are stories about such people, who are brought in to the industry, to make money thrugh them, they just record songs, use autotune, and than they always, lip sync.

I certainly hope he doesn't use it, but its good to know they are still working on an album. What do you think??

I think that MJ did a smart thing and decided not to use some auto tune or whatever it is called. I didn't know that device was used in Invincible. Interesting. I just do not want MJ sounding like that awful T-Pain on the radio. MJ is a SINGER and VOCALIST. Not some damn muppet/puppet singing like someone was cutting off his vocal cords. Anyway, it is a relief that MJ decided not to use it.

Hope he doesn't use this auto tune, I want the Off the Wall sound back!

Mike relies on his talents, not the tools. and that's what they are to him - tools. not trademarks or lifelines to a career.

experimentation can be a very good thing.

experimentation can be a very good thing.

That is true. However, I don't think that MJ needs to think of using some autotune. He is way better than that.

Anyway, thanks to A.Sizzle for the information.

Auto tune is used when a record company has a beautiful (well) girl with big boobs who desperatily wants to record albums. But can't sing. Used correctly it can do wonders on a poor vocal. LOL

Well didn't Will say that Michael still sings as a bird. So there you go.

That was exactley my point!
That's why it is wierd to know he "used" it.
