why is TLC showing this? The Secret Lives of Michael Jackson's Children

WTF.

They are acting like it's a crime for the kids to live in private.

That channel (that used to actually be about learning) focuses in particular on children: "Jon and Kate Plus 8," "19 Kids and Counting," "Toddlers and Tiaras," etc., so it doesn't surprise me in the least that they would air a show such as this.

Re: why is TLC showing this? The Secret Lives of Michael Jackson's Children

Because TLC is known for bad taste and violating the rights of minor children as is seen in many of their productions. Many of those programs border on exploitation and the violation of the rights of minor children. Didn't the production company for "Jon and Kate plus 8" finally found themselves in court on the suspicion of child labor?
I would absolutely not be surprised if the same production companies that produce all these shows ("heaven for actual and REAL paedophiles") for TLC would be part of producing another gem.

well..hopefully we don't give the show too much publicity...

they are a pathetic network though

They were in violation of Pennsylvania child labor laws because they didn't secure a work permit for the children. Since the show was already in the past, they weren't held liable. They made sure to cover their asses for "Kate Plus 8."

Thanks for the refresher....I thought there was something going on. I'm sure Michael Jackson, having been a child laborer himself would just be THRILLED to see a documentary on his children. :mat:

Actually, when is this supposed to air again? It still might be time to file an injunction, TLC and Discovery pull programs all the time, it might be still time to pull the plug on a program that features minors- these children have a legal guardian that would have to sign off on this. Anybody wondering as well? Might be something for Mrs. Jackson's lawyer and don't the children have a court appointed guardian ad litem as well? Just thinking out loud.

if the fans in france could help cancled the bashir special a few days ago, i think we can help stopped this program from showing if we email compalaints or boycott this

It's supposed to air for the first time on June 20th--A little less than two weeks from now.

Because michael is not here for the media to analyze and pick apart, their obession is creepy. The media thinks the kids are better off without michael because the kids were sheltered and to them that equals a lack or normalcy and anti-socialness. The kids had as much of a normal life as michael could give them and they were better off being shielded from all this nonsense.

I'd expect this from Extra, Acess Hollywood or NBC but not TLC...

Yes !! we should do it - We have to send them hundred emails to ask them to cancel that and asking them if they are authorized by Mrs Jackson, MJ3 are minors and surely can't do this without being allowed.

I find this link on the website :

Awesome, how about some very appropriate emails (NON irate free of cursing) that simply point out these few facts? A bunch of emails like that might be the seeds needed for them to think this would be more of a liability instead of a gain.

Not sure the link is the good one, it seems that we can write some comments only for pasts programs - I'm trying to find another one

I agree with this!!!

What the hell.

Their "secret lives" are their PRIVATE lives and none of anybody's business.
Gosh, just leave them alone. It's not even a year after Michael's passing and they don't need this kind of publicity right now.

I hate standing around watching these children get exploited like this. :( Wish there was something we could do. Is the family aware of this program?

34.I'm a viewer under the age of 18. Why can't I submit a question or comment?
Because of COPPA (The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) and for policy reasons, Viewer Relations does not respond to viewers under the age of 18.
^^^I think that's my favorite!!

The discovery website mentions an "ethics hotline". :D

It's worth a try. I'll try to think of an appropriate email to write.

Could you let us know where you will have sent it ? I failed to find the right one, they give many phones but not appropriate email address. I am more usual with french than english language so maybe I misunderstood something :(

Talk about bad form, TLC. Sheesh. If they were 18, it wouldn't be so bad...it would still bug me, but not as bad as now since they are all minors. And we know too well how MJ would have felt about this.

When it comes to the legal aspect of things (i.e., authorization from Katherine and the fact that these are minor children being discussed on a show), I'm a little stuck on what to say. Perhaps ivy or someone equally knowledgeable could lend some wisdom? *looks around*

They do not need permission from Katherine to talk about the kids. They will probably be showing clips/footage that we have all seen. It isn't against the law for them to talk about the kids.
