Last weekend's champion, the Michael Jackson concert documentary "This is It" slipped to No. 2 with $14 million, taking its 12-day total to $57.9 million. The foreign total for the movie rose to $128.6 million.

This Is It 12 day total worldwide = $186.5 million

I hate the title of this post so freaking much and I generally hate the post.

Why are MJJC care about a Miley movie which of course geared to tweens. TII is doing fab can we dead this now? Title makes me hurl everytime I log in.

What I am concerned of is that the hype about TII will fall down too fast, and the second week will be very poorly visited ..., I still cant believe that the teeny little madam is so successful...

Can someone please change the name of this thread since THIS IS IT only needs another 8 or 9 million dollars this week alone to pass Ms. Cyrus' film? It's showing through Thanksgiving and is bound to make at least another 30 million in North America by the time its run is complete.

Michael Jackson’s This Is It held up relatively well this weekend by falling 43 percent. Sony’s concert documentary grossed $13.16 million, which was good enough for second place and brings the film’s 12-day total to $57.01 million. This Is It started off much slower than expected in its first five days of release, but thanks to strong word of mouth, repeat viewings and an extended theatrical window, its final domestic gross could still wind up towards the lower end of its pre-release expectations. This Is It is currently running 37 percent ahead of the pace of 2004’s Ray and is now just $8.27 million away from matching the $65.28 million domestic total gross of 2008’s Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus 3D.

which one there are 2.

One is the 3D concert movie which was her concert in 3D!! $15 a ticket ouch.

The other was HAnnah montana the movie which was a full fledged movie relevant to the show

Because the one being compared is also a "concert" film and held the record for being the biggest seller in that genre...

I'd be very happy with the $250, even a strong $200, or even his just getting a $67M domestic figure. With some of the most highly anticipated movies coming out within the next few weeks (2012 and New Moon), competition is going to be extremely fierce.

I'd expect it to do abit more on the last weekend, which is also thanksgiving -if only sony promotes it in such a way as to keep it on the headlines and preserve public interest about it..

But let's talk about crossing that bridge when we get there.. For now, I would want it and'd be happy if it reaches 70 mil by the end of this coming weekend. Which means another million and a half for each of the weeknights till friday, and then a 7 mil weekend -as you say..

And once again, I say we quit the HM parallelism..

That's what we thought for CC too, and it didn't prove to be that much of a thrill -at least so far.. I'm not saying those coming out are lame ducks, but let's not overestimate them..
 
TII took a steep dive on Monday with $977,357 in the US box office. Much lower than on any previous day, but no catastrophic. Hopefully the fillm will pick up some pace at the weekend. We've all become expectant that TII will beat HM, but looking at this figure that isn't guaranteed at all.

You are wrong, this coming weekend, TII will be the highest grossing concert in the US& Canada of all time.

No one is making a parallel between Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus and Michael Jackson. There is absolutely NO parallel!!! It's the #1 record itself that the HM movie holds we're making the parallel to with TII. I do see a distinction.

Just like the gifted one wanted to have the biggest selling album of all time on all fronts, TII is deserving of the #1 concert movie of all time. It's just another achievement we want him to obtain.

Hannah Montana has a different target audience to This Is It.
I am not really bothered, because I know TII will be a very successful movie :yes:
 
TII IS a successful movie. It broke almost all records there is to break.

But there is only one record.... soon...

This Is It has grossed $59.35 million through its first two weeks of release, placing it 35 percent ahead of 2004’s Ray at the same point in its run. This Is It will clear the $60 million mark today and is now just $5.93 million away from matching the final gross of last year’s Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus 3D.
