They’re not supposed to be alternative versions of the finished songs, but an insight into the creative process. Much like looking at sketches for a famous painting. You wouldn’t replace the Mona Lisa in the Louvre with a sketch, of course. That’s not the idea. The idea is to reveal small insights into how the artist arrived at the finished work.
Demos, studio sessions, multitracks, alternate takes – all of these help to give more context to a finished song.
That’s the idea of releasing demos. Not to make them the next hit single or anything.
