The MJ Estate Has Updated the FAQ Page on the Official Website

I'm loosing hope on the estate. it's sad someone like Michael Jackson Estate has turn to this. I find the demos comments laughable. Surely The Beatles have already shown that there is a huge market for re-released albums with added demos. The recent Sgt Peppers, White Album and Abbey Road re-releases all had impressive sales as did the anthology series in the mid 1990s and the use of demos and alternate takes played a major part in this.
That is true, but I think it's more classic rock & maybe jazz fans who would care the most about this kind of album. It's doubtful that New Kids On The Block or Nicki Minaj fans would buy a CD of them messing up in the studio & studio chatter. In the same way, it's dance music fans who are more likely to buy a remix album. You have to know the type of audience for these kinds of releases. A record label is not likely to release a dance remix album for Metallica or Bob Dylan. Who would be the potential buyers for that? Fans of the Beatles are more likely to watch a movie of them recording an album (Let It Be) than the fans of Drake. It's like the kind of people who buy videotapes/DVDs of album documentaries, mainly the boomer generation.

They are releasing clothes whilst LN hanging over them. Your comment does not make sense at all :)

Clothes on a website for the likes of me and you are VERY different than releasing a product that is aimed at both us and the general public

I didn't see any fanfare for the This Is It 10th anniversary release this year.

To be fair wasnt it severely overpriced? ($480) on top of everything else going on in the world. You can blame lack of promotion, Covid, and the price instead of LN.

Wrong. I don't like any of those clothes. Just assume you are talking nonesense.

If there were DVD/Blu ray releases, then we would be talking bout something for the likes of me and you.

To be honest, the whole quartet is to blame. Prices are high, the virus is spreading, and do I even need to recognize the situation with that mendacious documentary other than it has entailed the Estate? They are busy (right?) with that and pandemic shipping, not to mention the lack of funds collected from the merchandise due to poor promotion of it and high costs.

I think it's just laziness, lack of knowledge or care in video quality, and making up excuses.

Clearly there are MANY things in their great vault that would really make the fans happy, not just unreleased songs, but also tons of concerts, and various performances in much higher quality.

If the quality goes in before the name goes on why were we:

- Given a $500 dollar box set of stuff already released
- Given fake songs
- Given a VHS tape in 2012
- Given t shirts with the single cover slapped on with 0 effort

Hypocrites.

Pure laziness.

What happened during the BOTDF sessions?

The ‘Blood On The Dance Floor’ album sessions were a nightmare for Michael Jackson because of the effect of the allegations on him.

Producer Bill Bottrell described him (during those sessions) as angry and abusive.

Audio engineer Dave Way also stated that Michael Jackson was unhappy and that something just was not right with him.

Bill Bottrell and Dave Way were present during those sessions.

"The Estate had a number of plans, including those for the 10th anniversary of the release of This Is It, that were all impacted by the release of Leaving Neverland."

Sounds like they originally had more than a ridiculously overpriced box set in mind.

Re: The Michael Jackson Estate updates FAQ to update fans and answer most asked questions by fans

I do not particularly care about the Prince Estate either. It is more the fact that the MJ Estate are acting like they are somehow doing better than them due to MJ being more popular, and trying to somehow take credit for MJ's art continuing to stream well. MJs music is still popular because he is MJ. The Estate trying to act like they are solely responsible for MJ being extremely popular when it comes to his music and art (as he was his entire life) just goes to show how the estate view him and his art imo. Always talking about numbers as if that is the most important thing, whilst releasing tacky merch and constantly lying to fans, releasing fake songs etc. They never cease to surprise me with their arrogance. Also, before anyone says, they have released a few projects that I have enjoyed, but that doesn't really make up for the general mediocrity when it comes to the estate and their vision and what they see as a priority when it comes to MJ. He is a brand to them only, not an artist or man, and to see them try to use quotes by him and say that they follow his philosophy is laughable at best.

I definitely understand what you're saying and you make some excellent points. It is true, though, that Michael didn't give the green light to officially release very much at all, in terms of concerts....only the Dangerous concert in Bucharest, in his life time. Much was filmed and documented, but where is it all? What format is it in.....how much would it cost to resurrect it....is it worth doing? Where is all the Jackson 5 and Jacksons footage? The rest of the Jacksons haven't released much in HQ either (if anything). All they are saying is that there are reasons why there have not been releases already (part of that being that Michael didn't want anything released if it didn't show him in the best possible light) and also that there just isn't as much in the vault as fans seem to believe.

As far as the drug part goes, you must not listen to much music, because a lot of musicians took drugs including some of those classical music guys. So did some of the session musicians who played on Mike's records.

When I said "drug-fuelled" demos, I was thinking more about the lyrics that were the by-product of the drugs, not the drugs themselves, or the taking of the drugs. I don't care what they did in their own free time. I just can't get on board the "weird lyrics" train. Lazy lyrics, too.

I listen to a lot of music, by the way and I have extremely eclectic taste. The global success of The Beatles is the biggest con-job ever, in my opinion. I always feel like the little boy pointing out that the Emperor is naked, in the story of "The Emperor's New Clothes".

The lyrics to Come Together were always proof of this. They make 0 sense lol.

I wonder what these plans were. If they can release the box set, why couldn't they do the other plans?

It would be awful, but I hope they aren't using LN as a cop-out.

Fair enough if you hate The Beatles, but to say they can't sing is just ridiculous. As are those other remarks.

Well, that's your opinion. I don't share that opinion. My only reason for commenting on the Beatles was because someone was holding up the idea of "Beatles demos", as though they'd be some kind of Holy Grail......whereas they would not be of any interest to me, at all. One person's treasure is someone else's trash.....always. Thus, what some people want from MJ's Estate is not the same thing that other people want; Michael himself didn't even release what fans wanted in his lifetime.

But isn’t it obvious that someone who doesn’t even like the Beatles also wouldn’t be interested in hearing their demos? You’re obviously not part of the market for Beatles demos.

Seriously they need to rewrite this. it look like a hardcore new teenage girl fan wrote this. this is very embarrassing to them and us as fans. i'm pretty sure other estates and non fans are laughing at them and us. sad.

"Also, as part of the Bad 25th anniversary celebration, the Wembley concert from the Bad Tour was released on DVD. Michael’s performance at this concert is certainly the best live concert performance by any artist ever. As explained at the time, had we been able to locate any original source films/tapes for this performance we would have used those to create a fully edited concert. Unfortunately, that was not the case and we released the only thing we found – Michael’s own viewing copy of the concert. We continue to search for the original elements in the hopes that one day we will be able to share this concert in the best possible format. Just like the fans, we would be ecstatic if this happens."

This still hasn't explained how they found Wembley July 14th The Way You Make Me Feel, which was shamelessly dubbed with edited multitrack audio and labeled as July 15th in the DVD bonus.

July 16th shouldn't be the best Bad Tour performance because it doesn't even have a full setlist. I think they chose this particular date just because of the multitrack audio and Princess Diana. I believe they should at least have Wembley July 14th tape in much better video quality, along with many Bad Tour concerts that they've talked so little about.

This.

The Beatles are the biggest hype job ever. The way people talk about them, it’s like they are the best thing to ever happen to humanity. They gets treated like gods, when they aren’t even that good. I like 4-5 Beatles songs, the rest of their music is very boring and average to my ears. I think Michael is heads and shoulders above Beatles and so are many other artists, but Beatles are media darlings, so they will always be regarded as the greatest thing since slice bread.

Maybe they chose July 16th because it just was a better concert than July 15th. Princess Diana was probably one reason but maybe Michael performed better.

Claiming that The Beatles are overrated doesn’t make you look cool. It makes you look uneducated. There, I said it.

Well, this backfired quickly, the "envy of all other estates" sentence has been erased lmao.
An absolute trainwreck, everyone is outraged on twitter.

Should we tell them that the Bowie Estate is also doing a better job at releasing music ? Since they seem so obsessed with Prince.

Of course yes.

You don't like the clothes and what I said is not positive towards Michael and his estate, therefore I am talking rubbish.

Of course...

That’s because they weren’t supposed to. John Lennon himself said they were “gobbledygook”. It’s a valid stylistic choice.

John Lennon

You ever read Alice In Wonderland? John Lennon was a fan of Lewis Carroll and that inspired his psychedelic era songs. He was the only one in the group who wrote those kind of lyrics. Paul tended to write story songs and George's songs were more spiritual/religious or cynical. John also put out 2 books in the 1960s that had stories & poetry like Lewis Carroll. The first line of Come Together came from a Chuck Berry song. John was even sued by Chuck's song publisher (not Chuck himself) for it. I don't think Chuck owned his publishing, which was typical in that day. The Beatles didn't own theirs and that is how Mike was later able to buy it. The Beach Boys also copied Chuck in Surfin' USA. The line is at 1:10. John's cadence in Come Together is also similar to You Can't Catch Me.

Gotta disagree here.

Saying the Beatles are overrated from a historical standpoint is objectively incorrect. They were incredibly innovative in terms of production and the recording process, and many of the techniques we're now familiar with were originated by them. But saying they're overrated from an artistic standpoint is 100% valid and a subjective opinion, even if you disagree with it.

I think they're ridiculously overrated as artists.

Care to elaborate? Volumes have been written about the artistic significance of The Beatles, yet all I ever hear from the other side is “they’re overrated, period”. You certainly have reasons to believe they are, so why not share them?

John also said that he would write songs like I Am The Walrus & Glass Onion on purpose to stump academics and people who would analyze lyrics who he thought took the music too seriously or were pretentious. It's not really a surprise he hooked up with Yoko Ono who was said to have weird art. They fit together better than he did with his 1st wife Cynthia. Who else in The Beatles would put out an album with themselves naked on the cover?
