Sorry, I didn't read this all the way through. I got bored. Is it full of crap? I can delete it if so. I usually wouldn't post something if I haven't read / watched / listened to the whole thing but I was sort of losing the will to live but assumed it would be benign and generally OK.

Let me know if I need to ditch it.

This is such a sad, lovely, poignant, moving story. Thank you so much for sharing. It sums it all up so well. Those young boys full of life. Many of them thinking it'll be an adventure, not really knowing what they were agreeing to. And all so young, as you say. This is what Wilfred Owen writes about. This is why he is so angry. This is what Dulce Et Decorum Est is all about. Those young boys.
Yes, I am angry, too. I wanted to find out were my uncle was buried, i could not. I feel a deep connection to him, this sounds crazy, but I learned that many people have this ... a connection to a person they didn´t get to know.

That is frustrating for you. I know in the UK the War Graves Commission has done a lot of good work preserving graves and helping people to find the resting place of their relatives who died in WWI and WWII. Does Germany have a similar thing? I assume so. Terribly frustrating if you are unable to pursue this particular line of activity.

No, I think I can understand. At any rate, it definitely doesn't sound crazy. I feel a massive connection to Wilfred Owen and have done ever since I studied him at school. And he's not even family, just a writer who died long before I was even born. But I think about him in a very deep way and feel extremely connected to him. So I can understand a little bit, I think, your thoughts on this. I think about him every year in November but also pretty much any time of year.

Yes, we have, I searched for him, but didn´t find his grave, yet. You know, even today I don´t dare to ask my mom about it (it was her uncle), I bet I could, but the silence about the war and what happened in families, to families, and of course, what we Germans did, is still thick.

Yes, this is exactly it! Connection, recurring thoughts, sadness, anger, ...

Yes, I can understand that in Germany there are many more layers of complexity here. It's difficult for everyone but Germans have extra layers of stuff to deal with / confront and it can't be easy.

She was a big film star and then in the 70's she was in The Partridge Family with David Cassidy. One of her biggest films was Oklahoma in the mid-fifties.
