Yes!!! Premiering at the Venice film festival, now that's something Michael deserve, around his birthday too. I can't wait for this documentary it's going to be as great as the Wembley concert :)

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

Wow, that's some incredible footage from Triumph and Victory Tour!!! I do hope we one day get a professional DVD release of both Tours and possibly a theater release!

They need to do a box set dvd of all the Jacksons tour (or one at a time...)

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

The person I'll miss the most to see him in the docu even more than QJ, the unreleated people that appeared in there because he was with Michael during all the shortfilms shooting, he accompanied him for the public events releated to promotion, interviews, the hospital visits around the world, the whole BAD Tour is uncle Tookie, Frank Dileo. I bet he had bunch of funny, touching and interesting anecdotes to tell about Michael during The BAD Tour but for obvious reasons it won't be possible anymore! :(

^I know that's sad. Frank Dileo had Michael's back always. Still they could have located previously unreleased film of Frank discussing Bad? That's a hope.

Aww I remember the way Michael was flipping Frank's tie in that video...

Awww man :( definitely Frank was key when it comes to speaking about Michael, especially during the bad era. He's definitely missed. I hope some footage of him was found and included, fingers crossed.

Spike Lee's Michael Jackson 'Bad' Documentary To World Premiere At Venice Film Fest

On the heels of the Toronto International Film Festival's unveiling of part of its 2012 lineup, the Venice Film Festival has done the same this morning; and as we always do when festival lineups are revealed, we scrub each list to see if there are any films worthy of an S&A mention. And I'm glad to report that Spike Lee's Michael Jackson documentary, in collaboration with the estate of Michael Jackson and Sony Music, titled Bad 25, will make its world premiere at Venice 2012.

The doc, said to be in its final stages of post-production, focuses on MJ's landmark BAD album and worldwide tour.
And more...

The project marks the first ever in-depth, behind the scenes film project to chronicle a Michael Jackson album, and is being filmed amid the 25th anniversary celebration of the iconic album, record-breaking world tour and groundbreaking short films that changed music history. The documentary features over 40 interviews conducted personally by Spike Lee with Michael's confidants, choreographers, musicians and other collaborators who collectively unveil the real story of this "coming of age" project through their vivid recollections of what it was like to work day in and day out and live this project with Michael. BAD's lasting influence is captured through interviews with some of today's top artists, including Kanye West, Mariah Carey, Cee Lo Green and Sheryl Crow, who was a back-up singer on the BAD tour.

Spike Lee, who directed both short films for Michael Jackson's They Don't Care About Us in 1996, said in a press statement:

"I'm more than just a huge fan of Michael Jackson, and having the chance to actually know him and work with him, I deeply care about his legacy. With this BAD project I was able to uncover just what made this such a huge, important coming of age in his career and unearth compelling stories surrounding the making of the album, the long awaited follow-up to Thriller -- the best selling album of all time - the short films and the tour that may have never seen the light of day."

The album, the third and final album collaboration for Jackson and Quincy Jones, was #1 around the world, made history with five consecutive #1 singles on the Billboard chart, produced ten chart-topping singles, was nominated for six Grammys and won two, and to date, has sold over 45 Million units.

Spike Lee's film supports the 25th anniversary of BAD, which will also be celebrated with the September 18th release of BAD 25, a deluxe package featuring three CDs, two collectible booklets, and features the first-ever authorized DVD release of a concert from the record breaking BAD tour, the concert at Wembley Stadium on July 16, 1988 attended by Princess Diana, Prince Charles and a sold-out crowd of 72,000 fans.

A BAD 25 two-CD standard edition, featuring the original album plus the CD of demos and new remixes, will also be made available as will a stand alone edition of the DVD and a picture disc of the original album.

The Venice Film Festival runs from August 29 to September 8.

While you wait, here's a short clip from Spike's film (and underneath it, you'll find a promo for the BAD 25 Wembley concert):

Yeah, lol. I always though shamone was basically come on/com' on/shom-on/shamon!

Here it is the origin of Shamone, from an interview to Mavis Staples

On her influence on Micheal Jackson and the origin of "shamone":

My mother called me one day. She said, “Mavis, this little Michael Jackson done stole your word!” I said, "What?” She said, "Turn on channel two." And he was [on television, singing the song "Bad."]: “I’m bad, you know it, shamone, shamone.” See, I said "shamone" in “I'll Take You There.” It’s just a word I made up! Instead of saying "come on," I said "SHA-mone." You know, trying to be slick. And he picked up on it. And it made me feel so good. Some disc jockeys would ask me, "Mavis, has Michael paid you any money for 'shamone'?" I said, "No, he hasn’t paid me one red cent. But it’s alright."

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

^ You can't own a word, Im not sure if he stole it from that guy or if that guy even invented that pronunciation in the first place.

The origin is exactly that, a different pronunciation of come on. He never says "shamone" like some people think.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

Either way, and despite its origin it'll be fun to see that on BAD25. It wouldn't matter to me what word it was as long as it's related to Michael. :punk:

I don't think it has anything to do with being a new fan, at one point we didn't know the simplest things about Michael but still called ourselves fans. I don't like to base devotion to an artist on things like the "I know more than you" factor. I don't know the "story" behind it, yet common sense tells me what it is, or might be. Still that doesn't mean it's not a fun story to tell/hear.
