Restitution was about Michael. Protecting him from being trashed by the person who already killed him. The family had no power in what charges were brought against Murray and the sentence, But they had power in getting restitution. That would have been the life long sentence that Murray should have gotten.

I am sorry. I don't know how else to express my feelings and thoughts. I don't want to see Michael dragged through the mud again. I thought he had enough of that in life.

Gerryevans, I understand and I appreciate your thoughts as well. Some are more angered that the family did not accept restitution while others are more angered at the lesser charge. I do not agree with Aquarius and others who feel the DA “did its part” but, that is life. Some see the Jacksons as greedy but, some saw the Goldmans the same way and still do. That is life too.

Aquarius quoted the hardships that can be involved with restitution below your post and Bonnie Blue explained how restitution can be avoided so the doctor could still profit indirectly in hers.

Today - in the afternoon - keep your eyes open about media stories. Today this the last status hearing. It's probable that the media will report from it.

Today is the hearing day for the motions to exclude. In my mind the most important is the speculative damages one because that would determine the maximum amount of the damages possible. It would change the full case.

Any dismissal or keep going decision will come from the court of appeals and no one can give a timeline for it.

Found this, so judge can ask them to settle.

The final status conference is where the court urges a Settlement once again and then asks the parties to submit what their issues are remaining for trial and if they are able to narrow those issues down and when they will be ready for trial. The court will then set a trial order after trying to convince the parties to settle again. The status conference is just that, for the court to find out if settlement is close or if trial is necessary because there is no hope of settlement.

Each judge has a different requirement for the conference and most will require a written submission of the issues for trial, proposed jury instructions if there is a jury, witness lists and summaries of the arguments and caselaw being relied upon. You need to check with the clerk for the particular judge's format. If you do not go, then the court doesn't know you are read or not for trial and will end up taking whatever the other party submits to proceed to trial and could then exclude what you have to submit as punishment for not attending the conference.

All civil cases go through that phase. even the criminal trial the defendant can also make a plea deal with the prosecution depending on the charges. it's standard procedure.

Even when the trial is ongoing the parties can always settle as long as a verdict has not been reached yet. Ivy can confirm this.

True, settlement can happen any time before a verdict.

I personally think that AEG will wait for judge's order on speculative damages as well as the court of appeals order before considering any settlement. they expect jury selection to start at April 2 and the trial start around April 8th. I'm thinking if there's a settlement we will see it right before the trial.

It was t thing that MJ would have to have lived 250 years to earn what Jackson's are asking.

I understand that sometimes a settlement makes better economic sense, but I think AEG's reputation is on the line here. Or am I think too much about it?

I would think it would be heavy load for AEG to be know as concert promoter that is responsible the death of MJ, and I don't think they want to load.

Then again, isn't Philip Anschutz hugely rich man so he can afford to go through the trial?

I agree with you. I truly believe AEG doesn't want to be known as the company that was responsible for killing Michael Jackson. I don't believe thay will settle either because some will interpret that as an admission of guilt.

I think many will think that.

I don't want Michael to be dragged but I really don't want to see a settlement either.

I think the family askng for such a crazy amount ruined any settlement unless the family bottle it and take something like 50 mill. because even meeting half way as u get with settlements
u are looking at silly money.

agree with ivy.nothing will happen until appeal and damages ruling

Don't AEG own some sports teams too like LA Kings? I think if they settle, it will affect to their reputation on that area too.

Judge denied Katherine's request to compel deposition of Philip Anschutz stating that AEG Inc. no longer a defendant.

Judge granted Katherine's request to continue deposition of Shawn Trell from AEG to answer questions he previously refused to answer.

Judge granted AEG's request to get subpoenaed documents from AlixPartners pending a review of them by MJ Estate. Alixpartners was a consulting firm hired by Santa Barbara DA in 2005 trial about Michael's finances. AEG says they need the documents from AlixPartners to rebut the $40Billion damages claim.

Katherine Jackson claims the company negligently hired the doctor later convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the singer's death.

The judge's rulings Thursday anticipate a three-month trial that will revisit events preceding the singer's death from an anesthetic overdose in 2009.

The judge will allow AEG to raise the issue of child molestation charges against Michael Jackson although lawyers for his mother claim it's irrelevant because he was acquitted.

Katherine Jackson and the singer's children Paris and Prince could be witnesses.

Katherine Jackson's lawyers objected to the appearance of Dr. Conrad Murray as a witness, but the judge said he could testify without the jury present.

Dont tell me that financial company from the 95 trial is those idiots that came up with really stupid amounts of what the ranch and cats were worth and couldnt even do the basic maths if i remember right.
