I hope that the special features arnt just a collective of people talking about working with him and stuff.. that would suck!! I would like to see much more rehearsal footage..

If it were up to me they would release 3 versions, basic DVD, Delux pack, and Fan pack..

basic DVD being basic DVD with theatrical trailer etc..
Delux is special features like interviews, and a couple extra clips
and Fan Pack just multiple DVD pack with so much footage of everything.. Like a 4 pack DVD set

it would be good for the collectors, and sales.. not everyone would want to pay a bulk of money for special features like us fans, but us fans can still get it..

I just want to hear the guy talk...talk about music and stuff...he's such a genius. We've heard him sing, we've seen him dance, now I want MJ the director, producer, the creative architect.

I seem to recall reading that they never rehearsed Dirty Diana. I thought that was a bit unusual, but I remember reading that. They were about to rehearse Dirty Diana and at least one other song, but never got a chance. Hm, maybe they mean they never got a chance to do them with all the stage props; I'm sure they must have rehearsed them to some extent, by that stage in the development process.

"We were just a couple of numbers away," Ortega says. "We were ready for Michael to step into 'Dirty Diana.' He'd already been part of the conceptualization of the number. On the afternoon of the day he died, he was going to step into the number. And then we still had to do the 'We are the World' and the 'Heal the World' sequence. We had the skeleton, but we were going to put those together in London because there were children's choirs involved." Other than that, Ortega says, Jackson had rehearsed everything and can now be seen doing so.

So it sounds like they had basically worked out what they wanted to do with Dirty Diana but didn't rehearse it on the stage, perhaps. They did something with those three songs, but it sounds like they had done less than the ones shown in the movie.

Nah, sorry guys. Come on! If they had the moonwalk on tape, they'd have put it in the film. We all know it.

As for this rumour of 100 hours of footage, it's amazing the things people take as gospel. That doesn't mean 100 hours of broadcastable footage. Plenty of that will be absolute waste of time stuff, people setting things up, real tedious stuff. These performances were obviously the best of what they had, which is why about 10% of the film was really low-res. Kenny Ortega must have thrown the biggest hissy fit when he realised footage from that particular rehearsal was low quality in two of the cameras; MJ was seemingly on fire that night!

DVD is $17.99 on Amazon for pre-order. The Blu-Ray is $27.99. When is this coming out again? Jan. 25th?

From the looks of the packaging, the DVD looks larger than a normal DVD case so I'm going to guess there will be TONS of extras. I could be wrong, but I'm guessing there will be. *Fingers crossed!
Such an amazing movie!! :)

I just read at amazon.de that the official release date of the dvd for germany is March, 30th. :(

The DVD will, of course , contain the Movie itself.. but do u guys think it will contain more songs too like Dangerous etc ?

Hmm. Maybe someone can post the correct details but I remember reading that the dvd will contain a lot of featurettes, making-of's and behind the scenes footage. The Blu-Ray will include a lot more but I dont think it will have any more performances.

Like I said I'm only remembering it so its probably not 100% true. I'll try and find the info for you.

A featurette could be some behind the scenes, some 'making of "Smooth Criminal/Thriller" This Is It videos, choosing the band members, making of the special effects etc.

If you get what I mean :blush:
