Re: DVD This Is It until February 2010

Also films with Limited Release usually come out on DVD much sooner then other films!!!!!

Re: DVD This Is It until February 2010

Well, for some of you who remember the Twilight movie, I've seen it in theater until the last day and it was a weekend, ane the dvd was coming out the next week.. so I don't know about that 90 days thing... but it wasn't true for Twilight movie...

Re: DVD This Is It until February 2010

Do you have an official source for that? I haven't heard it before and it sounds very strange that they'd miss out on X-Mas, the busiest and best time of the year to sell DVD's.

I think hes just assuming that because there is normally a 90 day clause after the release of the film that we wont get it before Christmas.

Re: DVD This Is It until February 2010

There is nothing traditional about this film. nothing. So I would not apply the same standards as those with other film releases. It really wouldn't make sense to slow down the money machine for five or six months. They want that money yesterday. So I really do believe it will come out sooner rather than later, and much likely announced when the final show airs, all because they want to get as many people in the theater as possible. Announcing anything about a DVD released would be counter productive during anytime before or during the two week theater period.

"This Is It" not on DVD until Feb. 2010

since there is a rule in the US that a motion picture can't be released to DVD within 90 days after the last screening in the movie theatres... this means no earlier than Feb. 2010.

well done sony, no MJ at #1 at the DVD charts for the x-mas business...

Re: "This Is It" not on DVD until Feb. 2010

This isn't true, because there have been several movies on DVD less than three months since they were in theaters.

Re: "This Is It" not on DVD until Feb. 2010

Paul Blart Mall Cop, for only one example.

I'm sure there's others. Almost any mildly successful comedy or action flick probably hits DVD in less than 90 days of its last showing.

Re: "This Is It" not on DVD until Feb. 2010

I don't know if this has been posted here before, but the last time this "only for a week or two in theaters" happened was with a movie disney released only to be shown in theaters for 1 week. It turned out to be 4 months because it became so popular...So it might well be that it will stay in theaters longer than 2 weeks....

Re: "This Is It" not on DVD until Feb. 2010

I know movies that were released in theaters one month and barely 2 months after it was being released on DVD, so that could be the case of This Is It

Re: "This Is It" not on DVD until Feb. 2010

lol nonsense, well not sure for US but in the UK that rule wont apply. we have even had a few films that have simultaneous Cinema, DVD and pay per view releases :)

no body knows anything yet so let us all just wait and see when we officially know more

they will probably be waiting to see how successful it will do at the box office.

Re: "This Is It" not on DVD until Feb. 2010

Kenny said in an interview this week it would be out just after the cinema release in time for Christmas!

:)

Re: "This Is It" not on DVD until Feb. 2010

The reason they'd delay it is because more people would watch at the movies!

What is your source for this? And if it is a "rule" then you can't exactly blame Sony!

Re: "This Is It" not on DVD until Feb. 2010

yeah i read that too, well that just means that This is it will be extended beyond the two week engagement

Re: "This Is It" not on DVD until Feb. 2010

Even if this were true [which it isnt] its not sonys fault. Id rather them spend time perfecting "this is it" than it be a rush job just because some people are too impatient and demanding. They dont even have to show you this footage, you should be greatful. And if kenny turned around tomorrow and said they were going to spend another 6 months cutting the movie he would have my full support.

Re: "This Is It" not on DVD until Feb. 2010

Since the OP is refusing to give the source for this information, I would like to note that there is an example of films that have had an almost simultaneous release at cinema and DVD. I refer to Steven Soderbergh's film Bubble. You will find many references to this. For example, http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5167394

Re: "This Is It" not on DVD until Feb. 2010

It looks like the two weeks run for This Is It might be extended on high demand, and this might delay the DVD/BD release even further, I am very positive that they will add additional bonus material which are much expected to support disk sales. I hope if there is a chance to change the 90 days policy considering holiday seasons and type of movie, for me it will be hard to wait for 3 months because I know I will want to see it many times and will miss it after the theatrical release is over.

Re: "This Is It" not on DVD until Feb. 2010

The leaflet that came with the This Is It album says:
See the event of a lifetime in cinemas.
Look for it soon on DVD and Blu-Ray!
Loaded with never-before-seen extras!

Re: "This Is It" not on DVD until Feb. 2010

I very much doubt they will extend the two weeks in the cinema, and yeah that is total bull about the DVD release; that is totally at the distributors' discretion...

True. As far as memory serves me the only rule with regards to releases following cinema or DVD release is the gap between original release and it's first showing on cable\digital then eventual terestrial transmission.
The gap bewteen cinema and DVD release is set by the distribution company to maximize on sales. Since tii is only running for 14 days it makes little sense to make those who missed out on it's showing ( and are keen to spend ) wait until feb 2010!

True. Nobody who wants to see this will wait that long, majority would just bootleg it,which would cause sony to loose more money.

Re: "This Is It" not on DVD until Feb. 2010

that rule got overturned a long time ago

I 100% percent agree; the two week run time will boost bootleg copies I would assume so not releasing the proper version soon is just asking for less sales...
