I think it's time to move on to the next chapter and not balls it up quite so spectacularly this time. Its said that Michael would have been devastated by all this.

Thankyou for ppl. who still have faith in this album... I wish I could say that to all the fans... I'm very happy with the album but if some are not, oh well...

The 2nd Single is Hollywood Tonight and its gonna be out early March! I think its a great choice...I was rooting for That or Monster... :D

Really Great News!

But, can somebody explain to me please:

With first-week sales of of 228,000 copies, followed by 150,000 the next week and in subsequent weeks, its total sales have shrunk to 27,000 units, 18,000 units and then 11,000 units for the week ending Jan. 16, 2011.
How can the album have sold 1.000.000 units in the US and therefor reach platinum?
Where do this numbers come from?
If i count the weekly sales of the US, i get ca. 450.000 Albums sold.
Platinum , to my knowledge, is received, when selling 1.000.000 units.

I also would be glad, if a source for the european numbers would be provided.

And a actual WORLDWIDE sales figure, from an official legitimate source. Not that 3 million 'shipped' stuff.

Would be glad for any help or info.

Mediatraffic doesn't list the MICHAEL Album as a 2 Million seller, either.
(but this would be the case easily, if the album received platinum in the us (one million) and europe (one million), alone.)

Sony has better informations about sales because they count every album sold, and Mediatraffic and similar charts have informations about sales only from the biggest shops (like itunes, amazon, hmv and big cd shops in US, UK and other strong markets).. but information from Sony is more accurate and according to them sales are over 2MIL worldwide.

Sony have sold over 1 million to stores/retail outlets in the US - the initial 900,000 that they spoke of, plus some stores must have requested another 100,000+ - this is how certificates are awarded. Some stores will have enough stock to sell for many months to come, others may have taken a smaller initial allocation and may have to reorder if the demand increases.

It is the same for all artists, not just Michael Jackson.

Once the shops start to discount this album (towards the low 'sale' prices of some other artists), then you may see the sales rise again and more certifications.

That is very good news, feels a little better now.
Still can't let go of the fact that it didn't make it to nr 1 in the states or the uk =)
Oh well, their fault... I guess.

There will come albums that will make it stright to nr 1, where there wont be so much negative stuff about it. I hope, I dream =)

I feel the same way.

'Michael' is #11 this week on the worldwide chart with 54K units sold

OK, let's compare this album to another posthumous album: Valleys of Neptune by Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix is a big name in the US, no? Yet his latest posthumous release, which was March last year, did pretty bad in terms of sales and chart positions. The fact that "Michael" was worldwide number one for its first week is spectacular considering it's pretty much guaranteed that posthumous albums will have little promotion (how many people knew of the new Jimi Hendrix album last year in terms of commercials, promotion etc.?)

Michael is Platinum in Denmark - more than 20.000 copies sold.

All I know for sure is that chart positions like this wouldn't be like this if Michael was alive :(

Really?

I feel like he would be on top if he were alive. I mean could you imagine how an album would have sounded too,if he would've been here to complete it.. I think Michael Jackson was 'in the air' so to speak. I think no matter what Michael Jackson 'mania' was coming back! (as in the general music listener & fans alike) I truely do. I felt it in my bones around 2006 and fourth coming. I think Michael felt it too. imho :)

I agree. I ALSO felt Michael MANIA in the air. You could tell it by the reaction to Michael's 50 SOLD-OUT concerts for TII. EVERYONE was talking about those concerts in the USA-media, radio DJ's, every gossip site, etc. Kids were talking about Michael as if they had just discovered him. I agree that Michael felt it also.

The fact that "Michael" was no. 3 in the USA with all of the controversy, fan boycott and other crap, is great, IMO. Now, if it had only sold 40,000 or entered at no. 20 or lower, THEN we would have something to fuss and whimper about. "Michael" did much better that I expected.

It's good but could be even better. Sony didn't recertify all Mj's albums, so the position is not accurate IMO as some other albums need recertifying.
I think if the others were certified MJ would be maybe No.8.
HOWEVER I guess some the other artists in the top10 are also under certified so if all the figures were bang up-to-date who knows where MJ would be. For now though No.10 is ok. With MJ's releases over the next few years and with some good promotion we should see him climb to No.7 easily.
