Official Charts Thread For ''Michael''

^ Omg only 400 copies away from being #1 in Canada. Such a shame! I guess we will have to settle at #2. 25,000 is decent. It should make platinum here (80,000).

Great news about Germany and Austria though!

less than 400 units? :(

yes,

i can't believe it, beaten from a karaoke singer

Also good News from AUSTRIA:

Michael is #1
Hold my hand from #40 to #9! (first top 10 since yrmw '01)

the first number one album since BAD!
i always thought the last 20 years. god, that cant be he never reached the number one, when i see there so much shit out there and they will easily go to numer one.
i mean dangerous, history, blood, invincible. all of them was number 2.

and the vision is now at #2, after 3 weeks at #1
Great news!

But also KING OF POP went to #1 for 11 weeks !!

AM glad germany is making mj proud!! am disappointed that susan boyle outsold mj in canada for the number 1 spot by 400 copies ..smh..also disappointed about the sales figures in japan

Well, next week Michael will be one (i hope :D) ;)! Less people buying susan boyle!

It's not only that MICHAEL will be Number 1 on Friday, here in Germany.
MICHAEL is also the best first week seller of the year, overtaking an huge local act.
And it has already gold status, with over 100.000 copies sold.
Thats huge, compared to 125.000 copies sold in the uk!

Furthermore 'Hold My Hand' makes a big jump from 18 to 7 in the german Top 100 single chart.

I don't see much promotion here either, so whats the problem in the uk & france?

Well to be fair, Germany's population is also bigger than the UK's (82 million vs. 62 million) so it's not surprising that sales are a bit higher there... but it's great from both countries imo :)

I can't believe Canadians and Americans are so crazy about christmas and karaoke albums like Glee and S. Boyle.

Even the italian singer andrea Bocelli with his christmas album is by far more successful in America than in Italy.

According to Wikipedia, this is how the album charted in several countries:

Australia #1
Belgium (Flanders) #1
Netherlands #1
Germany #1
Ireland #1
Italy #1
New Zealand #1
Sweden #1
Taiwan #1

Denmark #2
France #2
Switzerland #2
Norway #2
Belgium (Wallonia) #3
UK #4
Spain #4
Finland #22 :)mello:)

Is this correct?

Edit: Never mind, I just went to check one of their sources and this whole list is wrong. Shows how inaccurate Wikipedia can be.

I used to care about the charts and how Michael is doing in all the countries and to tell you the truth, I am not disappointed at all. Yes, we wanted him to be #1 all over but he was in the top 5 and top 10. That seemed beneath us thought, for some reason. I'm not sure why though. I know Michael liked to do it BIG and IMO, this album is BIG!!! There might be ppl. tryin' to destroy and down play the album, but get this y'all, This MIght not be the Last album we're gonna see from Michael, but this is The first after his passing, so you know what? I'm just gonna go off this thread or anything that has to do with the album and go listen to *MICHAEL* on my Ipod and learn the lyrics. It seems a sooo much better thing to do than dealing with some who wanna make this occasion NEGative!!!

Hope y'all have a wonderful week! :)

If this album isn't 1 in the US the next will certainely be!

Maybe they can hold the casio tracks for an even later album (it's a pitty thought, not seeing his last work because of fans), then there will be no boycotting.

And with slave to the rythm, blue ganster and do you know where your children are you have 3 huge potential hits! I believe if they promote it a little better and release slave to the rythm as first single it will be number 1 :D I've made i thread about that.

i do think michael has a change in the comming weekends. Christmas is over, less sussan boyle, more chance michael will get to number 1

A Finnish article says that Michael has sold already 3 million copies and it has sold gold or platinum in 31 countries? That can't be true? :D There is no source for that information in the article. I think the real number is about 1 million copies sold?

But anyway, it is an amazingly positive article and I don't mind that they don't have the right numbers there. :D

(By the way, I'm embarrassed being Finnish right now... #22 on the album chart is BAD. I hope it will be higher on the second week, the new chart will be released tomorrow.)

Swift Back at No. 1 on Billboard 200, 'Michael' Bows at No. 3

The No. 1 slot on the Billboard 200 albums chart this week was seemingly up for grabs a week ago, when industry prognosticators were predicting that it was a race between the then-current topper "The Gift" from Susan Boyle, former No. 1 "Speak Now" by Taylor Swift and Michael Jackson's new "Michael."

Well, Swift triumphs, as her "Speak" sells 259,000 (up 29%), according to Nielsen SoundScan, and returns to No. 1 for a third non-consecutive week. She beats out Boyle by 5,000 copies, as "Gift" falls one slot to No. 2 with 254,000 (up 5%). Swift's "Speak" total rises to 2.6 million, holding as 2010's third-best selling set. It stands behind only Eminem's "Recovery" (3.2 million) and Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now" (3 million). It's been six weeks since "Speak" was on top, marking the longest gap between No. 1 frames for an album since Alicia Keys' "As I Am" stepped aside for eight weeks between Dec. 1, 2007 and Jan. 26, 2008.

Michael Jackson's much buzzed-about "Michael" enters the Billboard 200 this week at No. 3 with 228,000 -- a start actually bigger than initially projected. It's Jackson's ninth solo album to reach the top 10, and it follows his No. 1 set from a year ago, "This Is It," which launched with 373,000.

Platinum in 14 territories and Gold in 17 territories ,we can say that it is a success worldwide.

I think that means shipping. Probably also the amount is that. Because I heard it really shipped gold or platinum exactly in 31 countries/territories. Finland's #22 isn't bad. It was only 2-3 days of physical sales in those numbers. The week is 7 days.

I thought the intital projection is 400,000.

Anyway, I think Sony is happy about the global sales performance.

Honestly why worry about sales these days. MJ is gone. Its not the same as before

Now i just want the material he was working on to get released, but im not expecting DEMOS to set records

What do you mean? Technically all the recordings he left are demos...

Actually, if the first week sales of 228,000 exceeds Sony's initial projection. Then, it can explain why there was not enough shipment of the album in certain locations. Sony didn't think the album would fly off the shelf and didn't plan to ship that many out.

Official Polish MJ site published some statistics:

"Michael" was released in 3 Millions copies worldwide, it became one of the bestsellers 2010.
Some statistics:
- Platinum in 14 countries: USA, UK, France (double), Italy (triple), Spain, Portugal, Poland, Russia, Belgium, Czech Rep., Canada, Korea.
- debuted on #1 in Germany, Italy, Holland and Sweden
- Germany: 85 thousands copies sold on only one week (record selling in this year)
- in UK - 113 copies sold, which is the best selling of Michael's music since "Dangerous" album
- in Japan "Michael" debuted in top3 (like Bad, Thriller and This is it before)
- "Michael" is: #2 Belgium, #3 USA, #3 Japan, #4 UK, #4 France, #4 Denmark. In USA debuted on #3 Billboard chart, with 230 copies being sold
- "Michael" is gold record in 17 countries: Japan, China, Australia, Ireland, Austria, Holland, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, New Zealand, India, Philippines, Taiwan

The last paragraph is like a paradox. Sales of a collection of rerererereleased songs (This is it album) beats down a brand new MJ album!!! Unbelievable! They should have released another collection instead of "Michael" then - LOL!

But then again it ain't no paradox. After how Sony screwd this release (especially with the 3 fakes but also with promotion), those figures are actually miraculously big.

This is the WORST MJ sales ever, AND STILL it seems decent to good, compared to other artists. In other words, if Sony released a blank disc with the name "Michael Jackson" on the cover, it would still get in the Top 5 worldwide. That's how powerful MJ is

:hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:

Very true. The name Michael Jackson sells!

Who else half complete songs can sell so many albums globally? Most other artists can only dream to have sales over one million.
