Official Charts Thread For ''Michael''

Italy no.1
France no.5,
Germany no.5,
The Netherlands no.1
Spain no.7
Ireland no.18
Belgium no.4
Denmark no.4

Germany hasn't charted it yet, but next Friday I think. All the countries don't chart before it's been a full week around.

Yes, it is not #1 in Denmark.

It's so far:
Italy NUMBER ONE
Sweden NUMBER ONE
Netherlands NUMBER ONE
Denmark #4
Belgium #4
France #5
Spain #7
Ireland #18
Finland #22

Yes, i also wanna know when the album will be charted.. Im interested to know what position the album will debute at.. It would be crazy if it didnt debute #1 in France, Germany and Ireland.

So far, we just know Denmark, Sweden, Italy and the Netherlands that have charted the album right? (meaning shows its debute position)

What now? Many of those chart performances are based on well under a week sales.. I think it's really great so far.

you think so? ok then :) I don't know much about the charts, only that Michael's place on them should be number one :punk:

All those positions I listed are official, but it's just that in some countries they chart albums even if like two days out before the chart. So i.e. if the album is out let's say on Tuesday, there are countries that chart it already Thursday or Friday based on only those sales. I know it's weird but that just means in some countries it's hard to debut if you don't have some kind of a national release date in that country.

Isn't important overall how the album does? I mean like not just first week sales but in the long run. I think maybe they should have waited after the holidays to release the album. I don't know.

JMie - can you get any info of the official album chart from Russia? I cant find it...

Frankly speaking, I don't know if we have a trustworthy chart at all. People here download music illegally for the most part :( I found one chart, but Michael is not in it (but a lot of Russian crappy music is)

http://www.lenta.ru/articles/2010/10/22/chart/

The thing is a lot of fans can't even buy the album in stores (in smaller towns). I heard some stories when fans went to a music store and asked for the album and the staff were VERY surprised there was a new CD because "how can there be new music if Michael is gone, are you sure you are talking about Michael JACKSON's new CD". The situation in bigger cities like Moscow is better of course, but overall it's not good.

My friend who has access to Michael's page on US iTunes showed it to me today and I was so upset. People are leaving really discouraging reviews and the most "liked" review is a negative one. :( No wonder general public read them and decide not to buy :( :( :(

We should ALL go in and write positive reviews.. asap..

I think they have focused to debut him mostly for Christmas week and around the holidays because that's what it looks like.

Yes, I think there's no album chart in Russia but they chart much airplay. But many sites are russian only and it's impossible to read anything because the language is like that.

^^ I checked the Russian airplay chart that's mentioned in Wikipedia and Michael is not there. Hold My Hand is played quite regularly on the station that I listen to, and the album was heavily promoted on another station (they had contests to win a copy and played the songs) but I don't know about the rest, cause there are a lot of stations.

ps. I realised I gave an old link in my previous post. Here's a new one http://www.lenta.ru/articles/2010/12/17/chart/

No "Michael" there either (probably he will be in the next one? I'll check next week), but they started posting a chart of vinyl sales and Michael is in THAT chart! He's on 11th place with "Thriller" lol

And I thought Russia is getting advanced. Is there even a vinyl release of 'Michael' yet?

I didn't know this. So the fact that the album didn't chart #1 in some countries like France and Spain can be attributed to this? I do hope things will get better and actually I think they will. But Hold My Hand was just not the right choice as a first single, it's an OK song for today's standards but it doesn't blow people away.. It's not that different from the other stuff that's around i.e. not an incentive to buy MJ's album. And I don't know the situation overseas but in my country, artists like Akon and 50 Cent are kinda outdated. That kind of music (hiphop and R&B) is not that popular over here anyway and I think that counts for most, if not all, of continental Europe. So I'd be disappointed if Monster was the next single (also because of the controversy surrounding it, we don't need any more boycots). Hollywood Tonight would be a better choice imo.

Anyway, I just checked the Dutch album top 100 to see who MJ's competition actually was and it's really incredible that he debuted at nr 1 considering that the most famous/successful singer in the NL just released his new album but Mike pushed him off the nr 1 spot :D

Edit: On an unrelated note, I was just watching TVOH (music show, I recorded it lol) and one of the contestants sang TWYMMF and I loved the little positive remarks about MJ  Like the host announced it as "The next contestant and I have something in common: we both danced to Michael Jackson's music ever since we were little girls" and the judge afterwards said "like John Mayer said after the funeral, it is almost impossible to cover a song by the King of Pop" and someone said it was "such a great song" etc. I love when random people say that :p And last week another contestant sang MITM and they were also full of praise for MJ :)

Michael’s first posthumous studio album, which has received tepid reviews, is expected to be beaten to the UK Christmas No 1 chart spot by either Take That, Rihanna or X Factor winner Matt Cardle.
In America, he could be beaten to the Billboard Chart No 1 by Susan Boyle.
Industry experts said the album, titled Michael, had sold about 200,000 copies by Friday, 25,000 fewer than Boyle’s The Gift and about the same number as Taylor Swift’s Speak Now.

According to Billboard magazine, the 10-track "Michael," which was released on Dec. 14, could sell up to 225,000 copies by Dec. 19. Those numbers might be just enough to push the album past Taylor Swift's "Speak Now," the third album by the country star which presently sits at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, and even take down Susan Boyle's "The Gift," which is No. 1 right now.

The answer will be revealed on Dec. 23 when the charts come out. As of Thursday afternoon, "Michael" was the No. 3 album on Apple's iTunes chart, behind R. Kelly's "Love Letter" and the Christmas album from the cast of Fox's "Glee."

I don't understand how Susan Boyle can sell more albums in US then Michael. What about R. Kelly and Tron soundtrack?

when they say 200k have they added the digital sales o itunes ?? have they been able to predict digital sales from the other digital sites..like i expect mj to selll about 30k digital albums on itunes therefore if his to sell 200k physical albums added to the digital he shold sell 230k that probably be enough for number 1 shouldnt it??

I can't believe in The USA they love so much Christmas, karaoke (Glee) and covered albums and crap like that..

Thanks God all those albums sold nothing in my country.

R. Kelly is going to be Top 10 with over 150,000.

Is the chart week for Christmas shorter or what? Doesn't the chart week start Saturdays in US? Why it says the chart week starts 18th and then 25th Dec?

Only 5 hours and we will know if MJ is in the top 3 UK charts or not...
I had small hope for better physical sales but now I don't think it will happend...

I just checked the Billboard 200...if I looked at it right, the Michael album didn't even make the top 200. :(

Number 1's is on the chart at #142.

On the Hot 100, Hold My Hand is at #65.

Back to the Billboard 200, what I think is absolute BULLSHIT, is that there are older albums on there. Isn't the Top 200 for NEWER albums? Why are Beatles greatest hits cds, and older Xmas albums charting on the Top 200?

Didn't this problem surface in 2008 when Thriller 25 was released, and Billboard refused to put it on the 200 because it was a " catalog" album. Seems to me this is the exact same situation. MJ is getting SCREWED!

Come on!!!

MJ came out in US at 15.12 - so can't be now on the charts - HE will enter next week.....

The album came out on the 14th. It should be on the charts for the week ending December 25th. Even Billboard was advertising weather MJ would beat out Boyle and Taylor Swift.
