It would be nice if Sony genuinly paid tribute to Michael but they are just lining their pockets at his expense because he is the one who will get the flack in the media about yet another release of old tracks and with no disrespect to Michael I won't be playing.

The truth is, artists as big as Michael Jackson are going to have literally hundreds of compilation albums when all is said and done. Go to Wal-Mart or some other store with lots of records and look at all the Ray Charles, Willie Nelson, Diana Ross, Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye & other tribute albums. You wouldn't be able to collect them all if you tried.

It happens.

Nah. You don't need to be very young to discover your passion for MJ. I know several new MJ fans in their mid-twenties (and even much more older!). Nothing to do with age. And some non-MJ fans buy that stuff also, they are on search for good music as we are.

I will not buy a tribute record where other artists sing along. But until now, we don't know what/who will be on that album. Hopefully that CD will be worth to pay money for.

I just read on a German board of Malibu Fan Club that Sony/BMG has confirmed to them that the Tribute CD actually will be released. It would become a Best of as assumed. Fans should be involved choosing their favourite songs. But I think the Fan Club will come along to supply you with the details. Supposed Sony/BMG it was Michael's explicit wish to let the fans decide on the contents of the CD.

if this is true and we get to pick the tracks..i will be pulling out my un-released songs list and making demands lol..if they have a problem they will get this look

Well big artist who don't do anything anymore have a lot of greatest hits and compilations and so on, but usually are older than MJ. Lately DavidBowie had more greates hits released than MJ, but also many DVDs and concerts!!

In Michael's case is just so stupid to rerelease the same old stuff when he has plenty of concerts and specials and rare perfomances and unreleased songs! What is the point??? A bad tour in DVD and everybody will buy it, everybody!

Untill Visionary I was sure it was only sony behind all those stupid rereleased songs and videos (and not even the original version of them and not even in a good quality video) because they I was sure they wanted to earn as much as they could out of mj. But now MJ has has the rights of all his songs and albums, so if we will have an other boring greatest hits on the stores' shelves is also MJ fault, and I believe it has always been an MJ's idea to put on the market boring GHs.

Well if its up to us fans, then I think we should demand sth different, like releasing a dvd of the Bad tour 88 for example, since there's already a petition for that, then the fans should show Sony the huge list of people who are more eager on buying that then another compilation...which NO ONE is looking forward to buying...

Yea I was talking to a friend who is a manager at our local Sanity Music Store and she mentioned that she was informed of a Michael Jackson greatest hits album coming out soon from Sony and that they will promo material for it next month !!

If I were SONY trying to create a TRIBUTE CD for Michael Jackson this is how I would do it..

Purpose of the album:
More promotion right before Michaels NEW album


What would be in the TRIBUTE CD:

* Some of Michaels greatests hits
(The difference between this greatest hits tribute album is.. Michael is not singing. They gather some of the biggest names out, and they sing his songs.. TRIBUTE to Michael Jackson..)

All the Hott names out right now, and some of the biggest legends that want to pay tribute could take part..

the songs would be song by particular artists, and the last track would be 'We Are The World' Recorded with all the artists that took part in the tribute, keeping Michaels original vocals on there..

^^ The artists that pay tribute that were on the original song would re-record a new version of there vocal ^^

Not just another album with MJ's name and music on it..


This would use the same concept Thriller 25 did, (bringing todays artists to MJ's songs) But in a much BIGGER way..


Think of it in the same lines as 30th anniversary type stuff on CD and promoted as a tribute album...



That is something I would go for.. How about you??

I'm not sure if I'm excited about this or not yet. I suppose it will be good if its not just ANOTHER greatest hits album and something new we haven't heard before

I DO think that is a cool idea, however I dont think there should be ANY releases relating to Michael Jackson before his new album because people may get sick of seeing or buying MJ related things and when the NEW one comes out, they will think "Far out, i just bought Thriller25, and this tribute one, I aint spending MORE money on the new MJ one"..

I reckon any tributes should be done in the form of a TELEVISION SPECIAL! Pre-recorded, edited to perfection, stars tributing MJ for his 50th Bday. That way MILLIONS of people will see the stars doing their thing for MJ, and wont have to pay a cent!:) Plus, TV has more exposure than record store shelves.

but IF they are going to do it.... THATS how I would do it..


If they are going to do a tribute for MJ.. create a TV special tribute..

Have an MJ DAY on a music chanell and end it with a new tv special..

Or at least JUST the TV SPECIAL..


Or even release a DVD highlighting his career.. a 'LEGEND CONTINUES' style but updated.. Keeping it positive..

Hmmm interesting. But what about the 'collaboration with the fans'? Really? Who are those fans? Did anyone get phone calls, emails asking for their opinion? Mmh didn't think so. And if they're gonna release it in August then the songs should have been recorded by now or at least should be in the process of doing it, right?

The fact that they haven't call anybody should tell us that maybe the whole thing is a big hoax. I never understand why these things get spread around without official confirmation and fans start falling off the roof. Why don't people wait for official confirmation?
