Re: Michael Forever Tribute/ MJJC Official Statement / Discussion / Estate statement / Fan letter @p

There is a full page advert in the Culture supplement of today's Sunday Times. It now uses Michael's full name as well as his picture. It also has a quote from Katherine Jackson stating that this is the only official tribute despite the fact that a) it isn't official and b) cirque du soleil is the official tribute.

God, I gonna spend my evening on twitter now

The Estate needs to know that.

Statement from Michael's brothers:

And I suppose Janet, Randy and Jermaine would then be saying this:

"We‘re not thrilled to be taking part. The more we hear about MICHAEL FOREVER, the more we dislike it. It’s exactly the kind of show Michael would have hated. We’re also not lending support to our mother and to the organisers, Global Live Events. The United Kingdom was very special to Michael and it’s great to pay respects to his fans there, but only at an appropriate time and now is not that time” - other Jackson family members.

Exotic Haaaaaaaaaaa thanks for this joke. I notice the concert is still going on and Michael would have loved this concert. It seems the brothers are saying anything to help sales and do not care that they are being disloyal to their brother's integrity for quality work.

By the way TMez said on Friday that during the trial Michael was very afraid. He also said that Michael was afraid of what they would do with his children. Now do you think Michael would like his children as part of the terms of a concert now.

Stella, could you please take a picture of the advert for us to tweet to the Estate?

Just in case Stella has trouble adding a pic, I took a quick shot too.....
This looks like the same ad as in the metro a couple of days ago.
Edit: Yes, as far as I can see it is exactly the same ad as in the metro dated 14th September 11.

(With many apologies to Stella for jumping in...
I usually upload using imageshack and copying the forum code from there (using the link 'globe' symbol) , but I'm not very technical and haven't used any of the other picture hosting sites...I think there are several you can use).

Can we publish our 35 fan clubs letter in a full page ad in the UK to offset this mess?

How much would it cost?

Will somebody please send this to the Estate. This a blatant copyright infringement.

Thanks for adding the pic. I wasn't able to. That is indeed the ad I was talking about.

Re: Michael Forever Tribute/ MJJC Official Statement / Discussion / Estate statement / Fan letter @p

Ooopsies. Looks like that's Michael's name, AND image? I think so far the Estate has held off because. . . this is Michael's MOTHER, which is what the rest of the family is, so-to-speak, banking on? But now the Estate knows that the fans do NOT support this. Fascinating. Wonder what will happen next?

You know what? I am willing to donate as much as It takes if we were to post a rebuttal ad in the paper. what do you guys say?

The Estate will sue GL. The same way they've sued Howard Mann and Melissa Johnson.

I am in as well.

Elusive, how much would it cost to have our letter in next weekend's paper?

Very good. I am not sure how this going to work out. Perhaps the mods can collect donations and run the boycott letter from the 35 MJ fan clubs?

My apologies again for jumping in....if I can be of any help at all re. posting pics, do let me know...it took me ages to work it out...even with instructions.......... Imageshack seems to work very well though. Thank you for flagging up the ad! I don't get to read the papers 'til late evening, usually.

I looked at metro advertising rates the other day, and a full national page is £37 K in colour, 1/4 page for London is £7,600 in (edit: colour). I don't want to sound negative, but I've a feeling that the Times will charge similar amounts....

Metro advertising rates
Below is a list of all our popular
display size adverts which are
available and how much they cost,
in easy to understand terms.
5x1 (50mm high x 35mm wide)
London Mono ........................... £553
London Colour ..........................£634
National Mono ..........................£620
National Colour ........................£779
5x2 (50mm high x 73mm wide)
London Mono ........................ £1,106
London Colour ....................... £1,268
National Mono ....................... £1,240
National Colour ..................... £1,558

Damn! Those guys are not cheap. anyway with enough headcount I am sure we can meet the numbers.

It seems that GLE are spending huge sums on advertising.....I don't 'get' it, at all. I don't understand how their finances can stand those costs.
By comparison the fans have an amazing information network through the various fan boards, twitter and facebook...no wonder GLE took to selling tickets through FB.

I think the best bet is to work with sympathetic journalists who can write editorial...maybe someone from stereoboard can pick this up and get the story out into the general and or music press. It would help if we knew if the estate have actually licensed GLE to use MJs name, image and music yet.....

I think this is now a concert looking for an audience. The fan boycott is presumably working, and they don't know where to find another audience....might as well aim at people who they think might have money.....at least they might be able to sell some merchandise (and maybe VIP packages) that way...........champagne anyone?

Re: Michael Forever Tribute/ MJJC Official Statement / Discussion / Estate statement / Fan letter @p

I think as we won't know if the estate take action on the GL advert send one first then send the other a day or two later.

Re: Michael Forever Tribute/ MJJC Official Statement / Discussion / Estate statement / Fan letter @p

I think the fan clubs consensus was to stop the focus on this tribute, the moment Murray Trial starts. so I don't think anyone would be donating to get the letter on the media.

on a side note I wonder if we can raise money for trial transcripts

Re: Michael Forever Tribute/ MJJC Official Statement / Discussion / Estate statement / Fan letter @p

Good idea ivy, I would be happy to contribute.

What sort of sums would need to be raised for this, please?

You are making a valid point.

Re: Michael Forever Tribute/ MJJC Official Statement / Discussion / Estate statement / Fan letter @p

Perhaps the Estate has given permission for the use of Michael's image and music.
