Someone posted this on the facebook but I don't think it has been mentioned here.

EDIT: Sorry, maybe it has. I don't know if that's where the invitation was posted originally, I haven't been following this very well.

Re: Michael Forever Tribute/ MJJC Official Statement / Discussion / Estate statement / Fan letter @p

This whole thing is beyond salvaging. All that GLE can do is damage control and try to throw the fan clubs under the bus. This phone call was never meant to happen and now that they are being faced with having to go through with it, they are making efforts to minimize the participants then they can say, well, see, no one was really interested...
This is just so wrong...
IF this company were truly reputable, none of this would be necessary. IF they truly knew what they were doing, they wouldn't need questions 'in advance'. IF they had organized this properly, IF they had had a real line up of performers BEFORE they announced ANYTHING about a tribute, none of this would be necessary. IF any of Michael's family knew AT LEAST as much about him as THE FANS, this would not be happening. IF any of Michael's family had the tiniest bit of understanding as to how this scheduling date would affect the fanmily, this would not be happening. IF his family had any empathy at all so much would be different.

Michael deserves so much more and better treatment from his family and from GLE than they are demonstrating. It is too incredibly sad.

A previous poster mentioned a 'parallel world' of Michael fandom. Well, I think we have a parallel world right here. The 'family' seems to exist in one world, the rest of us in another. To coin a phrase: to you, Michael means money, to us he means LOVE.

That is absolutely perfect.:clapping: That should be our new motto!!

Re: Michael Forever Tribute/ MJJC Official Statement / Discussion / Estate statement / Fan letter @p

They have it backwards, and this is yet another PR mistake. If they want to appease the fans, THEY should reach out. Wouldn't be that hard to find Gaz's email address, right here, and contact HIM -- and the other fan club presidents? They should contact Gaz, hats-in-hand. And then --- GLE should do the work, and set up the call (if, in fact, there is any intention of having such a call?)

GLE are the ones "in trouble," not the fan clubs. Asking fan club presidents to contact THEM is condescending, IMHO. They have made the "announcement" about the so-called conference call too LATE, anyway. If they try to say, "fans clubs were not interested," I'd expect MJJC could craft a response to THAT, that would make it all the way to CNN (and to TMZ, and elsewhere).

This is not fan-clubs' responsibility, but THEIRS, to get it right!

Re: Michael Forever Tribute/ MJJC Official Statement / Discussion / Estate statement / Fan letter @p

I'm just seriously trying to figure out what the hell would possess them to even extend an invitation to MJ.com. That site is ran by SONY...not fans!

Re: Michael Forever Tribute/ MJJC Official Statement / Discussion / Estate statement / Fan letter @p

Good question...So maybe they want to 'stack the deck' and pick and choose their participants or they just don't have a clue...or do they have some connection with Sony?

all of the staff on MJJC has their emails listed as public on their profiles and our website has a "contact us" option. If they wanted to reach to us, they could have.

I can't imagine they have a connection with Sony but I guess anything is possible. It is just that Sony and the estate have that $250 million deal

GLOBAL LIVE EVENTS FAIL TO CONTACT ANY OF THE 35 FAN FORUMS AHEAD OF PROPOSED PRESS CONFERENCE

Global Live Events, promoters of the scheduled Michael Jackson tribute concert ‘Michael Forever’, have further angered fans after they apparently failed to contact ANY of the 35 MJ fan forums following their promise to hold a global press conference.

It was ahead of news that Michael’s youngest sister Janet would be the third member of the family who refused to attend due to the timing of the gig, as well as the booking of American RnB singer Ne-Yo.

Last week Juliette Harris, a spokeswoman for under-fire GLE, spoke to the BBC in an attempt to reassure fans that the concert would be going ahead – and that the promoting company would take on the disgruntled MJ supporters who heavily oppose the concert. But, the move unsurprisingly looks like it was a simple PR stunt as none of the 35 different clubs that addressed the company with an open letter were contacted.

A post on the Michael Forever Facebook page by ‘Mjsim Fansforum’ reads: “All users: We confirmed that none of the 35 fansclub in signing the letter of protest to the Michael Forever , was contacted by Global Live on the conference scheduled for today.”

It was naturally followed by a swarm of comments from more unhappy Facebook users, including Jeffery Glenn, who commented ‘It’s a disgrace. End this fiasco now.’

Among the fans who won’t be attending, the youngest member of the Jackson family, Janet, released a simple one-sentence statement revealing that she won’t be appearing at the concert.

“Because of the trial,” Janet wrote, “the timing of this tribute to our brother would be too difficult for me.”

This comes ahead of news that one of GLE’s “two or three major artists” which it had promised fans turned out to be 31 year-old R&B/pop singer Ne-Yo – another mediocre addition to a mediocre line-up.

What do you think of the failed press-conference? Is Ne-Yo big enough to be considered a “major artist”? Tell us what you think in the comments section.

So, is MJJC going to participate in the call? This is unbelievably frustrating.

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!! We're not asking for THEIR cash. They're the ones who are trying to sell this tribute. It's like they're doing us a favor with this conference call. We don't need the call. They do. They're the ones with cash on the line. Mine is safely in my pocket where it is going to stay with or without a conference call.

Absolutely. We have nothing to prove. They do. We don't need them, they need us. We didnt screw up, they did. Big time.

Absolutely. Another thing? Now that the letter that originated with MJJC made it to mainstream news outlets, a follow-up letter (if necessary), would be likely to get high visibility, too. As in, if GLE somehow tries to claim "non-response" from fan clubs, that could be countered (or pre-emptively? ) As in, "fan clubs disappointed with the GLE response to their concerns?" Just a thought. . . .

Re: Michael Forever Tribute/ MJJC Official Statement / Discussion / Estate statement / Fan letter @p

Same old disrespect from GLE. What about the pay-per-view; did they get permission from the Estate yet? Or is this another international lie. The reporters need to get something correct, fans protested against the tribute before we found out that Jermaine and Randy made a statement, and not the other way around.

The bold clarifies more how they can broadcast the show.

A Tribute to Jackson Riles Fans and FamilyBy JAMES C. McKINLEY Jr.
It seems that nothing involving Michael Jackson or his fractious family is ever free of controversy, even two years after his death.

The most recent flashpoint is a tribute concert to be staged in Wales in October. The plans have divided the Jackson family, pitting Janet Jackson and two brothers against their mother and four other siblings. The Jackson estate has refused to give its blessing and has raised questions about the promoter’s charitable intentions. Fan groups are up in arms over high ticket prices and what they see as sloppy planning; their ire reached a peak when it was announced that a rock singer who had openly accused Mr. Jackson of molesting children was on the bill.

“This is the one and only time we can do this, and they are not doing it right,” said Gary Taylor, the president of the Michael Jackson Community, a fan organization in Britain with 80,000 registered members. “This is totally against what Michael would do.”

Feelings about the concert have gotten so raw that the promoters are holding a conference call with the leaders of fan organizations on Wednesday.

Chris Hunt, the British film producer who is the driving force behind the concert, said his company had been the victim of “disinformation that is being spread around.” He promised that the event, at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, the Welsh capital, on Oct. 8, would be an extravagant show worthy of Mr. Jackson. He disputed the charge coming from fan organizations that he and a few members of the Jackson family were seeking to profit from Mr. Jackson’s celebrity.

“No Jackson is going to get rich off this event,” he said. “This is not a money grab.”

Mr. Hunt said a portion of the profits from the concert would go to at least two charities that Jackson supported: AIDS Project Los Angeles and the Prince’s Trust. He said the charities would receive a fixed sum and a percentage of the proceeds. The organizers say they are also setting up a $100,000 trust fund for Jackson’s children.

He declined to say precisely how much of the proceeds would go to charity, nor would he say who are the investors in his production company, Global Live Events, which he formed in the spring, or how much they expected to make. “It’s not automatic the concert will make much of anything,” he said. “We are not announcing numbers at this point.”

The lack of a concrete commitment to the charities has troubled some fans. Ticket buyers were asked when they registered online to give an amount to charity above the ticket price, which ranges from $90 to $300, leading some fan organizations to wonder if the event was a for-profit concert in disguise.

Mr. Jackson’s estate raised similar concerns in an Aug. 15 letter to the promoters, demanding to know who will share in the profits. A lawyer for the estate, Howard Weitzman, wrote in the letter that “we are concerned that the concert is piggybacking on Michael’s good name and charity.”

The promoters never contacted the executors of Mr. Jackson’s estate about their plans, lawyers for the estate said. Mr. Jackson’s family has little control over his estate, because he cut his siblings out of his will and set up a trust solely for his young children and his mother, Katherine Jackson. A judge has appointed John Branca, who was Jackson’s lawyer, and John McClain, a music industry executive, to manage the estate’s assets and debts; they do not need Katherine Jackson’s approval for business decisions.

Mr. Hunt, who became close to the Jackson family while filming a television documentary about Michael Jackson in 2006, said the idea for the concert was born at a meeting last September with La Toya Jackson, who is firmly behind the event. He later decided to take on the project himself, then approached Jackson’s mother and won her approval. Mr. Hunt said he didn’t contact the executors because he thought he had the family’s approval.

The executors have made it clear through their lawyers that Mr. Hunt and his company cannot use any of Jackson’s intellectual property, including his name, his photographic image or his music videos. (The concert is called “Michael Forever: The Tribute Concert,” and ads for the event have no photos.) The musicians performing at the concert — including Christina Aguilera, Ne-Yo, Smokey Robinson and Cee Lo Green — may sing Mr. Jackson’s songs, as long as it is a one-time tribute, lawyers for the estate say. All are being paid for their performances.

But Mr. Hunt takes the position that intellectual-property laws in the United States do not extend to Britain, so he argues that he can use images of Mr. Jackson as long as they are not broadcast in the United States. He also intends to make a documentary film of the concert, he said.

The fact that the promoters never tried to enter a partnership with the Jackson estate has angered many fan organizations, and 35 of them sent an open letter to the promoters last week saying the concert was “doomed to fail.”

“We reckon without Michael Jackson’s estate at the helm, this tribute is nothing more than a money grab for the investors,” said Nathalie Smythe, a founder of Fans United for Michael Jackson’s Legacy. “They wanted to avoid sharing the profits.”

The timing of the concert has also been a point of contention. Jermaine Jackson, a sibling who tried unsuccessfully to organize his own tribute concert in 2009, has objected to staging the concert in Wales during the involuntary-manslaughter trial of Dr. Conrad Murray, the cardiologist who was with Jackson when he died in June 2009. He has been joined by Randy Jackson and Janet Jackson in boycotting the event.

“Because of the trial, the timing of this tribute to our brother would be too difficult for me,” Janet Jackson said in a statement on Monday, which would have been her brother’s 53rd birthday.

Mr. Hunt said he had initially chosen the October date because the trial had been scheduled earlier, but when it was delayed until the fall, he could not change the date without incurring a financial loss. He noted that the concert would be held on a Saturday when the trial was not in session.

Mr. Hunt has hired Paul Ring, an executive in La Toya Jackson’s Ja-Tail Enterprises LLC, to help organize the show. Mr. Hunt says neither La Toya Jackson nor the other siblings supporting the event — Tito, Marlon and Jackie — have a financial stake in his Global Live Events.

Beyond questions about money, Mr. Hunt also lost the confidence of many fan organizations when he announced that the rock band Kiss would perform at the concert. For diehard fans it was a huge faux pas because the frontman for the group, Gene Simmons, has said that he believed Mr. Jackson had molested children despite his acquittal on child-abuse charges in 2005.

Mr. Hunt has since announced that Mr. Simmons will not perform. But the damage to the concert’s standing with fan organizations was already done.

“It’s clear they have not done any homework,” Mr. Taylor said. “They had no clue about the person they are doing the tribute for.”

Re: Michael Forever Tribute/ MJJC Official Statement / Discussion / Estate statement / Fan letter @p

The only fan clubs who will be invited to join the conference call will be those that didnt sign the letter.

Slightly OT I have just got home from Thriller Live... It was awesome! Now that's a tribute worth seeing.

Re: Michael Forever Tribute/ MJJC Official Statement / Discussion / Estate statement / Fan letter @p

A previous poster mentioned a 'parallel world' of Michael fandom. Well, I think we have a parallel world right here. The 'family' seems to exist in one world, the rest of us in another. To coin a phrase: to you, Michael means money, to us he means LOVE.

Weren't they already supposed to have sold out at the end of the weekend too?

They're giving tickets away to people who RT their posts on twitter and people on their facebook are creating duplicate accounts to make it seem like there's more pro-people than there are.

Good question...So maybe they want to 'stack the deck' and pick and choose their participants or they just don't have a clue...or do they have some connection with Sony?

It's just a post on the forum not on the official main website posted by Sony itself. It makes them look silly and unprofessional having to promote a supposedly legit tribute by going onto the official MJ forum as a guest. They haven't had a good response...

Ok, I REALLY don't get some of you guys...

You spend your days blasting (and you're right) this tribute and its organisers... and now that they DO ask you for contact, you all go ''oh even if they talk to us, it'll not solve anything blah blah blah". Those people don't even know how to use google and you expect them to be able to contact you? Come one!

The right thing to do, even if it looks stupid, is SEND THEM YOUR EMAIL CONTACT WITH YOUR PROOF WITH A CONFIRMATION THAT THEY RECIEVED THE EMAIL so you'll have NOTHING to be ashamed of. You will have done your part of the job, then they can show if they to do theirs. If you don't, they'll blame you, is that what you want?

What is it? Are you scared now? Talking on a forum is easy, but you don't want to confront the real people? We ALL know this conference (if it happens) is going to be pointless and will not solve anything STILL at least the fans will be ableto say that they TRIED!

THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT THEY WANT!!! They want to say that the fans were not interested in talking with them and expressing their concerns live. Don,t hide yourselves behind computer, go for the fight, first line! Fight for Michael's legacy!

Geez...

anyone from UK / Wales knowledgeable about the intellectual property rights?

Gerryevans, thanks! (Can you give a link, please?)

I see Gaz has made the New York Times? Great to see we STILL have Michael's back! Thanks, Gaz. Brilliant!

We need to find this out. If he can use images and make a broadcast in the UK, then that would mean he cannot sell the documentary in the US. Their statement shows that they had no intent of getting the estate involved. If this is not about making money as was said in the report above, then why the interest in making a documentary. Is the documentary being given away for free. They really do not respect Michael and not even his fans.
