"Michael," the Michael Jackson album comprised of original material recorded by the King of Pop before his death, will be released Dec. 14 on Epic Records in conjunction with his estate, it was announced today (Nov. 4).


The first full track from the album, entitled "Breaking News," will premiere Monday on michaeljackson.com and stream for one week. The song was originally recorded in 2007 in New Jersey and completed after the singer's death last year, according to the announcement.

A teaser for "Michael" will launch on the site tomorrow; the album will also become available for pre-order online within the next 24 hours.


The album cover for "Michael" (pictured above), which was painted by Kadir Nelson, depicts the singer in several of his most iconic looks, from "Off the Wall" and "Thriller" to "Bad" and "Smooth Criminal."


"Michael" is the second major Michael Jackson project to be announced this week. On Wednesday, 2011-2012 tour dates for Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour, a Cirque du Soleil production based on Jackson's music and career, were unveiled. The show begins its North American run next Oct. 2 in Montreal and plays 14 mostly Canadian cities in 2011, with 13 more dates announced for 2012. Additional cities and multi-night engagements are expected to be announced.

interesting but this is art.

Tiger Woods tried to sue an artist for painting his winning moment, Andy Warhol has been sued several times for his paintings as well (as they are replicas of famous pictures)- in all cases the courts have ruled that all those paintings fall under the category of art and image and likeliness use claims were rejected.

- The new album doesn't say Michael Jackson anywhere. He is the only artist who is so famous he can just make a cover with pictures and the title Michael and not a single person on earth don't know who released the album.

His fame is scary sometimes.

I am excited about the offical announcement of the Michael Jackson album. :D

However, I am disappointed about the album cover. It takes the magic away from "Dangerous" I thought the cover was a montage of pictures someone had made when I saw it as someone's 'signature' :(

but What matters is the Music - The visionary artistic concept (concerning album art etc.) is *No More* since Michael himself is not here. I was hoping for something By or Inspired from Michael. Not some artists view of MJ. Michael was always involved in all aspects of his *work. I'm sure there's more to the album It probally has more on the back side.
Maybe it'll grow on me.

It's now what is in the Music -that *is* Michael Jackson*

Can't wait to hear the single and the whole album. :)

Guys , are there any statements from the family ? At least no tweets at all from brothers and La Toya as if they aren't aware. I think it's a bit weird. Isn't it ?

I dont believe that is correct. We are getting a teaser of the new album tommoro, then this monday premieres the new song BREAKING NEWS.

DO anyone have any idea what kind of song "Breaking News" is? I doubt it's a ballad.


Maybe something like Leave me alone/Privacy/Xscape ? A groovy beat and good melody?

So true. Calm down you all. It could mean something we d on't know anything about.

Most people will NEVER see it.

When you have the cover on a PC and can zoom and everything you find the small details, ONLY fans who really look the cover bit by bit will notice it.

Great Cover - can't wait for "Breaking News"
