Michael - The Great Album Debate

This is why it took me a week to post the test in here, this thread is a snake pit! If you try to argue with me again, you'll find yourself talking to a wall, lol.

I disagree with you just for the sake of it :D

Same as me the second time.

First time I had a score of 70, but there were a few sounds that sounded exactly the same, but I doubted too much and pressed the 'different' button.

Second time these same noises I this time pressed 'the same' button and voilà. Much higher score.

Nice little test Milka! Fun!

But it also has a lot to do with memory and my memory sucks..:D

*'The songs were heavily processed.' I still challenge anyone to make an existing Michael vocal sound even remotely like the voice on the Cascio tracks using Melodyne. If it was all due to Melodyne, this should be possible, right?

I have asked myself in the past what it would take for me to become a believer, and this is probably the answer. If someone could take an authentic Michael Jackson ballad and uptempo piece and process them to the point of sounding identical to Jason Malachi, I would seriously reconsider my position.

*"The vocals were recorded in a very basic home studio at the Cascio home with poor sound isolation. Different equipment/room means different sound quality." Then why does he sound completely fine on WBSS 2008? And why has he always sounded like himself in whatever kind of environment we heard him sing, such as here:

http://youtu.be/7LoLU2CcYb0?t=5m44s

Exactly. Why is MJ's voice unmistakable on the low quality phone recording that's featured in between two Cascio tracks on the "Michael" album?

By the way, that phone recording is only 20 seconds in length, yet in those mere 20 seconds we hear Michael sing, beatbox, and TALK. Why doesn't MJ talk anywhere on the hour's worth of the vocal tracks Angelikson sold to Sony?

*"Yes, his family has voiced their disbelief of it being sung by MJ, but how often were they involved in the actual recording and mixing process in the studio? They, like most people, probably only heard the perfect final drafts of his songs." 3T recorded with Michael in the past and Taryll was involved in this project.

Taryll, TJ and Taj are also veteran MJ fans. They have likely heard some of the various demo recordings that have released throughout the years.

Why is MJ's voice unmistakable on the low quality phone recording that's featured in between two Cascio tracks on the "Michael" album?

Because the Angeliskon studio is of lower quality than a simple phone. The studio actually sucks big time, we've all heard the results: that (un)recognizable voice.

MJ should have recorded all the Cascio songs on a cell phone, we would have at least recognized him, if it was him. I don't know why bother recording in a studio anyway?

OT: has anyone seen this picture before? Does anyone know where and when was it taken?

It looks to me like the trial period 2004-2005.

Is it really MJ? Look at his throat. It seems that there are two colors. One natural on the left, and one as if a rubber mask had been put on. I don't know if it is photoshopped, but I find it quite strange.

I have seen that picture several times. It is indeed from the trial era and it is MJ (to be honest I am a bit surprised that you are doubting that, Bumper!). I don't know, it does not look strange to me at all really. I also do not see the two colors you mention. To me it just looks like the skin of his neck is pushed up a bit by his clothing.

It's his shirt. Brown/orange shirt that he wore one day at the trial.

This has nothinbg to do with doubts. I just need clarification whether people had seen it and whether it was photoshopped. Look closely between his hair and throat. I don"t know if it is a piece of brownish/tanned clothes or skin and that line. I am confused because some people pointed that out (not me). But I am curious anyway, because I just noticed it too.

Oh my bad, I got the impression that you were not sure if it was really MJ on that photo.

I think Onir is right.

If someone could take an authentic Michael Jackson ballad and uptempo piece and process them to the point of sounding identical to Jason Malachi, I would seriously reconsider my position.

even if someone COULD do that, it still wouldn't change my mind. they'd be starting out with a perfectly fine, mj-sounding song, and then "processing it" to make it sound like JM. Even if that's possible, it would do nothing to change my position, because i find it impossible to believe that the sound engineers would purposely try to make an mj song sound like not mj. That makes less sense than anything we've talked about in these 1740 pages--and we've talked about a lot of nonsensical stuff, so that's saying something.

if something sounded like mj, why make it not sound like mj? it might be possible, but it would make absolutely no sense to do so.

Yes, some were too long for my tired little brain. But it's not just about memorizing, if you are tone deaf, you can memorize all you want, you just won't hear the difference, you'll memorize it wrong basically.

And yes, if you do it over and over again, if you are not totally tone deaf, you will get better. That's why I didn't try again, knowing that I only paid attention for about half the test, I thought either I'll get bored a lot sooner and the result will be lower or it'll be higher and I won't know if that's just because my ears are already a bit "trained" from the test. I also think you can use it to train your ears.

You're right.
Your test was fun Milkywaysss :D

True but I think the problem is some believers say it’s a combo between Melodyne and the crappy studio :D

But anyway, as Grent said once (btw, where is Grent? I miss his explanations), this is MJ’s voice drowned in Melodyne but still sounds like himself.

Hope you have an amazing time at Cirque, Love :)

Just came back from the show. It's very nice.

Although the giving tree is gone, the set is well-designed. Love how they integrate videos in the background. There are unforgettable moments. I especially like the Smooth Criminal/Dangerous, Human Nature and TDCAU. There isn't any dry eye in the audience when little Michael sang I'll Be There.

But, I don't know why I left with such an empty feeling. Throughout the show, I kept waiting for Michael to show up. There is such a big void that none of the many talented performers on stage can fill. Miss Michael so much.

By the way, I met John Branca during the intermission. Right after I came out from the bathroom. I saw him talking on the phone. I kinda followed him. Then, when he got off the call. I told him I enjoyed the show very much. He smiled at me and politely gave my arm a little tap then said "Thank you. I'm glad you enjoy it. Have you seen the show before?" I replied, "No. This is my first time." he then said, "The second half is going to be even better.".

I have to say Branca is very polite. He looks very fit and young for his age. He wore black shirt, black leather coat and blue jeans. Very stylish. My mom is so swooned by Branca.

lolz at your mom. no, i know what you mean. i liked immortal when i saw it, but ya, it's empty. I'd rather watch michael in any of his tours, or videos . . . or breathing or blinking or sitting. hahaha. glad you had fun.

lol...aww, your mom :)

I too had a bit of a void at times...So many things coming out pertaining to Michael that aim to try and relive that magic...It'll always be there but it'll never feel the same...That only happens once...Well, that's how I feel anyway...

-.- Derp. You should have asked Branca about the Cascio tracks. to get his personal reaction...to see his face..etc. in fact. it should have been recorded.

Remember guys michael did have vitiligo and that does cause blotches on the skin, so maybe that brownish colour u have may have seen was those blotches. Plus even though michael did cover it up with make up it does tend to rub off a bit sometimes

I'm going tomorrow :)

No, I think it is the color of his shirt and some shadow or a hair that made it appear strange, nothing more ;-)

Well if it's on the actual album, it means he thinks they're genuine.

Lol... I wouldn't blame my mom. For a sixty year-old man, Branca looks damn well. He's smooth. I did scold her though. I said Michael Jackson himself would look a thousand times more stylish and charismatic.

There were a lot going on in the show. The performers are all very talented. I can tell they are excited and feel very honored to be a part of the show. It touched my heart that they all looked up (as if they were saying thank-you to Michael) the time they thanked the audience at the end of the show. That female pole-dancer was amazing. It seems all the bones in her body are made with elastic bands. The one-legged dancer captured the audience. The Earth Song and TDCAU segments are powerful. Overall, it's a very entertaining show. I'd even say it's one of the best live shows I've watched.

Nevertheless, the show didn't connect me to a deeper level. I knew in my heart of heart that Michael wouldn't be in the show. He's gone. But, seeing all the footages of him in the background really pulled my heartstrings. The irrational part of my brain kept waiting for Michael to come out from the screen. At times, I focused on the videos than the dancers on stage.

Michael's charisma is one-of-a-kind. Watching his tour DVD's is more exciting than seeing live performance of many others. I can't even imagine how it's like seeing Michael live. Those of you who had the privilege of seeing him live are very fortunate. You are truly blessed to ever witness genius in person.

-.- Derp. You should have asked Branca about the Cascio tracks. to get his personal reaction...to see his face..etc. in fact. it should have been recorded.

Lol... Trust me, the thought of asking him about the tracks did come across my mind. I thought about asking him Bad 25 as well. But, I was with my mom in the lounge area outside of the stadium. There are many other people. And, it's obvious to me that Branca was in the middle of something. He just got off from a phone call. So, it's not like I could probe any info from him at all. So, I opted for a polite exchange about the show.

In all fairness, he's very down to earth. It seems most people do not recognize who he is. He's able to enjoy the show and walk around annonymously.

Was the show sold out?

I'm going tomorrow :)

I don't think the show was completely sold out. There were empty seats here and there. I'd say it's about 90% filled. I also saw Spike Lee and Jimmy Fallon in the area near me.

Enjoy the show! :huggy:

LMAO... There wasn't any security details around him last night. At least not that I was aware of. Like I said, most people did't recognize him. He blended in with the crowd effortlessly.

Nobody would have recognized him here, probably only hardcore fans...and I probably would have had to look closely in the crowd to recognize him myself since the place was packed... lol

Heehee... I was surprised by my ability to pinpoint him instantly. Usually, I'm very bad at putting names to people's faces. He looks much more slim in person.
