Michael - The Great Album Debate

When DANGEROUS came out, I was completely broke. I had some pocket money, but not enough to buy the brand new cassette. I emptied all my pockets and all what I had to buy the DANGEROUS album (it was a copy of the original tape). I just needed to hear and have all the new songs after such a long wait. Later on when I had money I bought the original tape, the CD, and the 3-D special edition + all the maxi cd singles that were coming out with all the official remixes.

I was 11 when Dangerous came out. So, I had no money at all. Plus, CD was very expensive back then. It cost about $10 USD. I just couldn't afford it. I got most of my music collection by asking my friend (who's years older than I) to make me copies.

The Dangerous era was great. I remembered how Michael was on TV all the time. It's a time when music videos were seen on TV, not on YouTube. Black or White and RTT were on constant rotation. Plus, the Bucharest concert. He ruled the music world.

BTW, I just watched the Regan clip you posted. Reminds me of Regan's charisma. I'm not a fan of Reganomics. But, he's indeed the Great Communicator. Sad to see all the Regan wannabes in this years race.

I remember my father telling me when I was about 13 years old that I need to get over my obsession...I just stared at him blankly :mello: I was like, 'nah, this is forever..' hahaha....

My mom pretty much bought me anything MJ related....She already had bought Thriller on vinyl and CD...she hadn't bought OTW though...My first album that I purchased myself was HIStory and I saved my money from babysitting....It was $40 for a double-disc back then! I was teased in school all the time about being an MJ fan because when my obsession really started was around the allegations, so it was a difficult time to be an MJ fan...But I didn't care...

I had VHS tapes ready to record ANYTHING that came on the news about Michael....I still have them, in my basement

Me too, I was teased, but never for a long time as people got home with a blue eye for that. And my friends actually had just to bear my MJ fandom and watch Moonwalker and MJ videos with me. I made them copies even though they were not MJ fans. They had no choice. :D

bahaha! So true! I turned a few of my friends into MJ fans....Some of them just as obsessed as I was....But even they got annoyed with me after awhile...EVERYTHING was MJ related...I couldn't talk about anything else...We'd have sleepovers, watch Moonwalker, Dangerous videos, Making of Thriller....That's all we did...We had a blast....Those were the days :)

I actually wonder if people who had similar experience believe it's MJ on the Cascio tracks.

Stella was talking about his own experience, meeting MJ 19 times and listening over the years. He also mentioned that Waldo guy who followed MJ as well over the years and who also doesn't believe it's MJ on the Cascio tracks. Samhabib who also had followed MJ very closely and having attended BAD concert, Dangerous concert, History concert, etc, doesn't believe a bit it's MJ on the Cascio tracks.

I was just wondering if any real hardcore fan, when I say hardcore fan I mean a fan that has been in love over the years and that has been following MJ literally on the daily and nightly basis since at least the 80s, who had deciphered the slightest part of the tiniest existing sound, note, vocal, breath, clap, hee-hee, ugh, aow, in every and each song prior to the Cascio tracks and who believes that MJ's is on the Cascio tracks?

I remember back then that I was so in love with everything and anything related to MJ that I annoyed people around me with my fandom. When I was hardly 12, 13, 14 and so on, I used to stay up late at night for the slightest info that might have been related to MJ; (There wasn't Internet back then). I was what you can say over-obsessed, crazy, nuts, yes, people thought I was crazy and my mother and step-father thought I was gay because of such a love/obsession.

How about people like E'Casanova? And other MJ's impersonators? Has anyone of them expressed their opinion on thsoe Cascio songs?

The same happened to me. Sometimes people told me "Would you stop talking about MJ for 1 minute please?" :D

Even though I haven't seen him live, I fallowed every step since the 90's. And his music was the center of my obsession. I also listened dissect his lyrics and never got tired of his music, I've learned this language just to understand him. (and I'm not good at writing this language but it's different when you speak it or hear it)

But thanks to the internet I know people with the same years of fandom who believes MJ is there in those tracks, that is what I don't understand.
Now about the impersonators, never heard their opinion either.

Reminds me of what Samhabib once said. He said "I'm in love with a man, but I ain't gay."

Hehehe.

I love that.

And I remember my Dangerous cassette didn't came with a jacket either but I used to carry it in school every day and show it to all my friends and contemplate the cover whenever I could.

Before the HIStory album came out, my friend and I used to sit in class, completely not paying attention, we'd sit there and draw an MJ calendar, counting down the days til the album would be released...My teacher knew how obsessed we were...He didn't care, he'd just roll his eyes at me...lol....

I remember when I was about 13, we have this music channel here in Canada called MuchMusic, similar to MTV...There was a show where you could request any videos you wanted...But you had to submit something, like artwork or whatever...So I made this huge poster, with sparkles and the MJ emblem from the HIStory era, and his dancing feet, like your siggy, Lucilla....It was pretty cool....and I mailed it in and just had to wait and watch the show to see if I'd be chosen...I didn't think I would be...But I happened to be flipping through the channels and then the show was on, and they had my poster on TV, showing it off, said my name and everything! I was so excited! I had won a pair of Airwalk shoes, and they played the video I requested - In the Closet! ....at the time, I didn't have any MJ videos on VHS....

^^My friend was into George Michael. So, we would have Michael Jackson and George Michael videos marathon. I wish I still have those bootlegs tapes we bought. HIStory was my first official release purchase. Omg... The gold CD is a beauty. The booklet is just so amazing. Still have vivid memory of how excited I was the first time I opened the case. Yeah... Being a teenager MJ fan was not easy. The jokes were very brutal.

Oh I was teased like crazy! ESPECIALLY by this boy who had a huge crush on me...He was the worst to me...I think he was jealous cuz I never gave him the time of day...Michael already had my heart

Ah, the gold CD's! I remember watching Entertainment Tonight and they had shown the gold CDs and I was like, "WOW!"...it made me ever more excited for the release lol

So cool they chose your poster. We also have Much Music and MTV and I used to tape MJ videos on my vcr all the time, not only videos but every little news I could see on tv. I have like 15 vhs that I taped :p

Most of my friends understood my fandom. The only thing I experience was this stupid girl who once told me "You like MJ? That's disgusting" But she hated me anyway because her crush was after me LOL.

Oh you know MuchMusic too? It sucks now though, they never play videos anymore...But back in the day, when videos were actually good, it was worth it to watch it...:D I remember Scream being on ALL the time....and Earth Song, YANA, Childhood....They were in heavy rotation when they were released....Then I started buying HIStory on film and all the other videos I could find...I have the original Oprah interview taped on VHS, plus his 1995 performance on MTV video awards...plus all my other recordings of literally 15 secs each appearance or whatever...didn't matter, you wanted everything and anything MJ related...Now I have my Thriller vinyl framed....looks so sharp lol..

Awesome drawings, BUMPER.

BTW: that last picture The MJ Mix 40, it doesn't look like Michael. Is it really him?

I had written a letter to Michael when I was younger....Just my personal feelings and what not...But I never got to send him the letter because I didn't know his address....

Now, I have a letter there with him at Forest Lawn, a friend of mine who lives in Toronto went there for his birthday in 2010...She left the letter there for me, and some sunflowers I bought as well...It was 20 some odd years later, but I did give him the letter I've always wanted to send him....

Here it is: :D

No, it doesn't look like anything I've seen of MJ. But in 1989 or 1990, I bought this officially released megamix on double cassettes. The songs are only from Motown period.

I just liked the cover, but I don't think either it's MJ, I liked the idea of suggestion in the dark with a Michaelish pose. When I find back this double cassette cover, I'll check it out who's credited for the picture.

Wherever you are, I'll be with you Michael

He's a gorgeous man. Beautiful inside out. Talented beyond words can describe. A heart so pure and compassionate.

Not a day goes by that I don't think about him.

wow, Beautiful drawings Bumper. I used to draw him too.

And yes, still hurts he's not here anymore. We'll miss him always.

It was also my mom who loved Michael (and the Jacksons). She bought a lot of Supremes' records too (she bought LOTS of LP's of different artists). We didn't have any Jackson albums, but I had a few tapes. A tape of Off the Wall and a tape of the Jackson's destiny tour in London. A few months ago she called me to tell me she found those tapes again.

these ones:

.

I had written my name on it and 'The Jacksons'. And the 'Off the wall' tape was also 'homerecorded'. No idea how I got them.
When I was about 13,14 you were lucky when you had the chance to see Michael on TV. His first 'clips' for me as a teen to see on TV were 'Don't stop til you get enough' and 'Rock with you'. And then later on 'Thriller'. His dancing was what I loved the most. I can remember Michael perform in the Diana Ross show when it was on TV. My mum and I loved Michael, lol. Whenever we saw The Jacksons on TV, our eyes were drawn to Michael.

When I got older I lost the interest, I completey missed the BAD-era, but I did buy Dangerous and History when they came out and for me that was special, because I rarely bought cd's.
And in 2004 (when I already had 3 kids, 37 yrs old) my attention was drawn to a contest in the newspaper. I entered and I won The Ultimate Collection. Happy as a little kid :D

And anticipate the hype of discovering maybe some unreleased songs or getting curious about the remixes and alternative versions such as Bad Extended, 12"The way you make me feel, 12" Billie Jean, 12" Smooth Criminal, 12" Another part of me, or SHOUT on CRY Maxi cd:
