Michael - The Great Album Debate

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

For a long time after his death I couldn't listen to WYBT....I had a very, very difficult time listening to him speak at the end.

I love the choreography of it as well...Very beautiful, graceful....Poetry in motion...

Yep, the choreography is excellent. It's so beautiful and sensual... I can watch that routine non-stop. I love both MTV 10th year anniversary and the Bucharest.

Can never understand why they cut the tears out at the end of the MTV performance on Vision.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

The shortened version used as the theme song of Free Willy doesn't do the song justice. In order to feel the power of the song, one needs to listen to the WHOLE song, from the classical intro to the spoken words at the end. Michael took me to a journey with him with this one...

Completely agree. The classical intro is beautiful. I would LOVE to hear what he's done classically. He was working on some stuff.

The choreography for WYBT is like someone fed the song into the world's most expensive computer and told it to produce the song visually.

It's perfect.

Love the way you described that! Perfect! I love the bit at 4:30...What a beautiful way to move the body...

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

I think it's the closest he came to a fully released classical work. I know some of the long album intro is sampled from a real classical work, but even the composition of the rest of it is closer to the classics than pop and yet somehow manages to remain mainstream.

Sometimes I think, if the only songs Michael Jackson had ever made were Who Is It & Will You Be There he would still be my favourite artist ever.[/QUOTE]

Yup, sometimes I think if Michael Jackson only released Dangerous, he would still be my favorite artist. I love the album too much.

On top of Dangerous, he gave us OTW, Thriller, BAD, HIStory and Invincible, all of these albums are among the best popular music ever made. Furthermore, he gave us I Want You Back, The Love You Save, I'll Be There, Heartbreak Hotel, Can You Feel It, etc... Even more, he gave us all the innovative videos and some of the best dancing the world has ever seen. And, he's also a wonderful human being.

Who else can top Michael Jackson? Michael is simply unbelievable. How can one human being be so talented. He continues to "wow" me.

If the only songs Michael released were these versions of Breaking News, Monster and KYHU???

You're a crazy fool for even pondering that idea.

Well, that's it isn't it. I mean, I love a lot of different music & bands, but when I think about Michael's body of work and the consistent quality of the albums not to mention the peripheral stuff like the videos, dancing, live performances it's mindblowing.

Add to that the fact that he wrote most of these works and add to that the mad Jackson 5 vocal that we hear especially in Who's Lovin' You (live) and I could scream.

Yes, that one live is incredible. That, and Ain't No Sunshine live at the Forum....First time I heard that, I cried. I was in awe. Absolutely in awe.

I haven't got that. I only got WLY last year & it blew me away. I love the fact that you can be a fan of the man for 30 years and he can still surprise.

I must get the full Live At The Forum.

Yes, you must get it. It's absolutely genius. I've played it for non-fans, and listening to Mike on certain tracks, it literally left them speechless.

Speechless?

Speechless?

That's how it made them feel?

Oh... you have to get Live At The Forum. It worths every penny.

I think Live At The Forum is more well put together than Michael and This Is It, in terms of packaging.

Hearing little Michael singing live at age 14 is priceless!

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

And, apparently, at age 48 he lost all of his ability. All of it. Even, bizarrely, down to his very accent! He even lost his accent! Incredible!

hahaha...something like that...I was the same the first time I heard it..His voice just does something to me...at the age of 14! How incredible is that?

Keep Your Head Up + Ain't No Sunshine = Same person? Fcuk that.

Yes, that's how it made me feel. Such a wonderful song. Simple and powerful at the same time. I love Speechless.

The way little Mike sang WLY is so powerful that he really takes you to a journey. He takes you away from reality. I got totally carried away by it.

If Michael Jackson didn't become Michael Jackson, King of Pop. Michael's works with the Jackson Five would still allow him to be recognized as some of the greatest vocalists ever lived. Let's say little Mike's voice changed when he grew up and he didn't release anything in his adultime. People would still talk about I Want You Back, I'll Be There and Lookin' Through the Windown.

Seriously, Michael's full body of work is closed to impossible to top.

Ordered it! Thanks.

Not sure why I waited so long really.

I hope it's Michael singing on them all, I don't want to find Donny Osmond popping up singing Ben.

No worries. I assure you there is no impersonating "supporting" vocals, PVC pipe, power tube and other nonsense... It's 100% Michael Jackson and his brothers. There are Jermaine's solos here and there. But, totally tolerable.

I can't help but wonder if Motown/Universal can come up with such quality product, what take Sony so long to release Victory Tour Live and Bad Tour Live?

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

Not really sure if you're serious here. Is this sarcasm?

I'm saying that those two songs are sung by different people.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

^^ LOL no it is not! someone else said that earlier, that younger michael sounds nothing like his more recent vocals and you can't compare them.

it's just not true. michael jackson was always the same person. his voice CHANGED but you can always still tell it's him. i can definitely recognize that mj from 72, or even earlier, is the same mj from this is it in 2009. he sounds different, sure, but of course it's still comparable. he's the same person.

LOL You didn't have to explain all of that. I'm sure Annie knew exactly what I was talking about.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

I like Live At The Forum, but I think the mix is off. The drums are way too loud on some songs.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

^^ i kind of agree. the audio quality is not quite where i want it. but the vocals are terrific. then again, i love listening to his "early years" cd, which has WAY worse audio quality, so i guess i shouldn't complain :)

EDIT:
Ahh, this is the copy i have. You can listen to the whole thing online:
http://desitouch.com/album/The-Early-Years/3658

Stormy Monday (track 20) is the best . . . how old is he here? i'm not even sure.

He was 14, that comparison is irrelevant.

Are you being sarcastic? He forgot the accent that he used from age 11 to 40 for the brief period when he 'recorded' with the Cascios? You're either being sarcastic or you're having a laugh.

It's COMPLETELY relevant. Unfortunate as that may be for you.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

point is, michael jackson's first ever recording is more vocally talented than breaking news. you don't lose something like that. it's a gift. he didn't suddenly lose 40 years of musical experience and god-given talent over a 4-month recording period. the vocals on those 3 tracks are not even close to the same league as any single one of michael's previous recordings. including ones from when he was 9, 10, 11 years old.

:agree::agree::agree:

Some might argue he was not singing in full. They are "guide demos." But still, we all have seen Michael's rehearsals and have heard his demos. In the Dangerou Tour rehearsal, TII rehearsal, he's clearly holding back. A fraction of his talents is still enough to move people.
